QUOTE(JFields27 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) An easy get, and I think could be easily traded is look at the Texas Rangers. In that Teixiera trade last season the Rangers netted Elvis Andrus along with Salty and the others. Andrus was the #2 prospect in the Braves system, and is the #3 for the Texas system. The reason he could be an easy get is because the Rangers have two young middle infielders that are locked up for a while with Micheal Young and Ian Kinsler. I think it would be a real nice add to get him, He is only 20 years old. if we look at Texas, we gotta try and get one of their young catchers... either Salty, Teagarden, or Ramirez.

I see Valido is back in Birmingham... I'm still holding out a little hope for him, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) Just FYI for Firefox users, I've updated my Firefox Extension to reflect the Opening Day roster. You can grab it here: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi Just select the link and choose "Open" (with FireFox), then click to "Install Now". After install, then select "Restart FireFox". The extension will install next to the Help at the top of the Browser and provides quick links to everything White Sox. Still working on a White Sox theme. that's gonna come in handy... thanks a ton!

White Sox @ Indians - Opening Day Game Thread
BearSox replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
won't be home until about 6 tomorrow, but I'll be tivoing the game... odds are someone's gonna ruin the score for me though. -
I'm excited to see how Harrell and Cassel do. I especially liked Cassel from what I saw in his one inning. Who's playing 3rd? Also, besides Cassel, Harrell, and McCulloch (such a waste of a 1st round pick), who are the other starters? Is Omogrosso going to be relief or start?

QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) Regardless, you haven't answered the question of what you'd do if our starter got knocked out in the second inning and we had Wasserman instead of Masset. Are you really saying you'd go Buehrle->Wasserman->MacDougal->Thornton->Linebrink->Dotel->Jenks? If all of Logan, Wasserman, MacDougal, Thornton, Linebrink, Dotel, and Jenks can't pitch more then 1 inning, then they shouldn't be on an mlb roster. Logan can easily give 2, I'm sure Wasserman can go 2, and Thornton and Jenks are both former starters and can give at least 2 each. Thornton probably could go 3 easy. Linebring could go 2. Dotel and Mac, better not risk it. So, lets say Buehrle gets knocked out after the second. Put Was in there for 2. Then put Logan in for 2. We got ourselves to the 7th Then Thornton/Linebrink can get you 2 and/or finish the game, depending on the score (and it's probably not good for us if Buehrle gets knocked out after 2), and if they can finish or we have the lead, Dotel/MacDougal/Jenks could close it out. It's not an ideal sitaution, but there is no rule that a relief pitcher can't go more then 1 inning if they aren't a "long man."

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President
BearSox replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
I dislike all 3 candidates (especially Obama), but better McCain then the other two. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) There really is no way to justify it. It just comes down to Williams not being able admit "his people" were dead wrong about Nick, and now arguably the Sox 2nd best bullpen arm from last year has to wait for Nick to burn out before he can get his chance again. Not that Williams gives 2 s***s about what I think, but I would have more respect for Williams if he showed that he cares about whats best for the team, instead of trying to show everyone he wasn't wrong about Masset. Hey now, this guy was "a notch below Jenks on the Radar gun!" On a side note, I have no problem with Mac being on the team. He has arguably the best stuff out of all our relievers, and the upside is huge with him.

I like how Obama said if Wright hadn't retired (I am pretty sure Obama's camp made him retire in the first place anyway), he wouldn't have felt comfortable at the church and would have left... what about the previous 20 some years Mr. Obama? I find it hard to believe anything Obama says, because quite frankly none of it adds up. Wright's never apologized, but Obama says he has? Like yasny said, Obama is a world class bulls***er. I don't know about anyone else, but I am truly afraid for this great country if Obama does get the nomination and does become president. I don't trust him, I don't trust his wife, and I don't trust his whole camp.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) You can't bench Thome vs every Lefty, because he would only end up with 300 ABs. However, I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced every now and then vs Lefties. He has a .300 point OPS drop from RHP to LHP. That is huge. I agree with this... but you don't bench him on opening day, and you don't platoon him.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 07:08 AM) Whether or not you hate Gavin Floyd, which 50% of the board apparently does, you can't make that statement now. It's just dumb to make that statement when KW could acquire a starter or one of Floyd/Egbert/Broadway/Haeger steps up and claims a spot in the rotation. Or, the team sucks so bad that bringing in high-priced talent is just a terrible idea next year. So yeah, that's a ridiculous statement at this point in time. Contreras is done... I'm hoping this will be his last year with the Sox... And odds are that at least one of Floyd or Danks will fail... but you're right, for all we know Danks and Floyd turn out to make a dynamic duo, to go along with the other duo of Vazquez and Buehrle, leaving the 5th starter spot open for one of Broadway/Egbert next year.

It surprises me to see how many people think Thome should be benched vs. lefties... maybe once in a while, but Thome is NOT a platoon player. Sure, he's better vs. righties, but he has one of the best eye's in the league, can draw walks, and at any moment, vs. any pitcher, he can go yard. And you don't bench especially when he is getting hot, as evident of his 4 or 5(?) homers and 10+ rbi's in the least week and a half of spring training games. But, he shouldn't bat 3rd vs. lefties. Swisher should bat 3rd with Thome 5th...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) According to Ozzie, gettig on base is more important than anything, including speed. He said it on camera. If those guys perform, you wont see Owens starting. And Thome can hit and get on base, not alot of guys have success against CC, he's one of the best in the league. I guarantee Owens will be starting when he returns..

wait, Buehrle is back in the no. 1 spot now and starting the opening game?

QUOTE(The Beast @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) I never really understood this trade, Durham wasn't that overpriced and I figured he had some good years left in him for the Sox before he moved onto SF and stayed there for awhile. By the way, what has Reed done for Seattle that was that great? The Ritchie deal was a wash. I was pretty angry when Fogg was traded and when Sirotka was traded for Wells. I loved Sirotka. Not even close. While Wells and Fogg aren't doing much any more, they're both still in the league, and at least both had a couple solid seasons, which could have helped us a lot in 2002 through 2004.

What's funny about this is that I wouldn't be surprised if no team claimed Massett, if we did send him down. I'm sure other teams have scouts who aren't retarded in the head and can see that Massett has nothing but a straight low 90's fastball and a curve which he can never get over. If we really wanted a long man, that spot should have gone to D.J. Carrosco(sp?)... he showed a nice fastball with movement, and the ability to actually throw strikes.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) And around April 7th, they will rather have a guy in the lineup that can run fast over a talented guy like Quentin. We will also start Thome on Monday who is what 0-11 with 7k's life time against CC. Some of these decisions are head scratchers. I got no problem with Thome starting vs. CC, whether he can hit him or not, Thome still provides a pressence in the lineup... however, he should be batting 5th with Swisher in the 3 hole.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) you mean you didn't like the way Juan struck out with a runner on 3rd and one out tonight? I wonder who's bat is slower... Dye's or Uribe's?
-
I was so excited when I read that Ozzie was thinking about having Swish bat 3rd and have Ozuna start at 2B and leadoff vs. lefties. Owens going down messed this up I guess... since Ozzie and this organization have some sick delusion that Owens is a major league outfielder and leadoff hitter. The guy doesn't know how to hit, my dog can hit for power then him, he can't play a lick of D, and I'm pretty sure my dog also has a better arm. But since he has speed and can steal bases, he automatically becomes an above average MLB player and leadoff guy????
-
I have no problem with Ramirez starting... but why in earth is Uribe starting? Not having Ozuna play 2B and leadoff against Sabathia is plane stupid. Look at the history, Ozuna hits lefties well, and has hit C.C. good as well. Plus, Swish isn't a leadoff hitter. I like him as a middle of the order type, but not leadoff.
