  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) HE's shown speed, power, a good batters eye. His swing isn't even close to ugly, just a bit long. All of his mechanics are bad. And he's shown power? 9 home runs with a metal bat in collegiate ball? He's got the strength to hit them out, but his swing isn't very conducive of hitting the ball hard.
  2. If we were better at developing hitters, I'd probably like this pick more...
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) One game against the Rays running all over us and you will change your tune. The kid looks like he plays ball pretty well, .300+ avg, Sb's some power, good defense, that looks like a baseball player to me. Would you consider the Uptons, Crawford etc athletes or just baseball players? He hasn't shown any real natural baseball tools. His swing is ugly and if it wasn't for his amazing speed, he'd be a terrible OF. I hope I'm wrong, but I see another bust on our hands.
  4. I'm so sick of people saying we got the best athlete in the draft, big whoop. Josh Fields is a great athlete as well... I don't give a s*** about athletes, give me baseball players.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Do they do it rapid fire after the first? Hopefully.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) Is it just the first 32 picks today? First 111. But MLBN is only airing the first round. The rest will be on mlb.com
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Do you think this is the type of guy you bring up quickly? It looked to me like the guys were saying he was a bit of a project. f*** no, this guy is a project. His high BB walk this year is promising, but he needs some serious refinement to his game. His swing needs a lot of work, he doesn't get good reads on fly balls, and his arm is average at best... I could handle this pick if Brothers wasn't still on the board, but you don't pass up a pitcher with Brothers stuff for a huge project like Mitchell.
  8. f***, why in the world would we pass up Brothers for Mitchell? That's asinine. Yeah, drafting football players has really worked out for his in the past (I'm not including Richard cause IIRC, he gave up football after his sophomore year to focus on baseball)....
  9. Damn you Royals!!! We probably wouldn't have taken him anyway.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Nats were taking a signability pick and the whole world knwe it would be Storen. They are going to spend 20+M on the top pick, nothing wrong with a signability pick at 10. Storen will be moved back into the rotation. It was either Storen or Jenkins there... Can't really go wrong with either one, I'm a big fan of both.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) It's very much like what happened with Denard Span in 2002. Do not be suprised to see Matzek plummet. I'm not familiar with Span's story? Was he a top guy going into the draft but wanted huge money?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) I didn't think Brothers was one of the Rocks targets. From what I've heard, Rex won't get past the Blue Jays at 20.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Nats selected Drew Storen. Wow, overdraft? No, they had to go cheap there, and Storen is a good arm.
  14. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) I'm surprised how much Tyler Matzek is falling. Anyone else? Not really... he stated he wants to get record money for a high school player.
  15. At first I thought this thread was made because Pods joined the whine club with Fields and Wise.
  16. Looks like the Tigers are gonna go crazy with the benjamins again... They will go with Matzek, if he's there.
  17. My dream worthy, jizz worthy, living the high life draft (with players who seem to have a shot at being available): 23 - Crow 38 - Trout 61 - Dominguez 71 - Walla or Baily 102 - Volz 133 - Seastrunk Never gonna happen, but I can hope.
  18. There's talk of crow slipping out of the first now, because of his contract demands... Oh man, I'll be so pissed if he's there and we don't draft him. He's got no leverage as there's no way he would go through this again, his value would probably decrease. Come on now, don't get cheap!!!!!!!!
  19. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Scheppers or Crow would be amazing and would certainly fit the bill of a "high upside" player that Rick Hahn said we were after on sabermetrics night. The only problem is that they'll both be wanting at least 3 million (they really have no bargaining chip as they don't want wait another year), and we are rumored to be going cheap. And 3 million is top 10 money.
  20. I really hope fathom was wrong and we don't go cheap this draft. If Trout falls to 38, I'd be all over him. Luke Bailey in rounds 3-5 would be awesome. Oh man, we could have an epic draft if we don't go cheap.
  21. The first 8 picks are pretty much set: 1. Nats - Strasburg 2. M's - Ackley 3. Padres - Tate 4. Pirates - Sanchez 5. O's - Hobgood 6. Giants - Wheeler 7. Braves - Minor 8. Reds - Matzek OR White Mayo said Matzek, Callis said White I'll s*** my pants if Crow falls to 23. Some teams worry about his mechanics, but I think they are fine and he'll stay healthy for at least until he's 30.
  22. Danks future isn't as a leadoff hitter. He's better in the middle of the lineup if his power potential comes through.
  23. Doing a full mock was waaaaaaaay too tough. I'm gonna end a 20. However, boot it, the Yankees will select Slade Heathcott at pick 29. 1.) Nationals - RHSP Stephen Strasburg, San Diego St. 2.) Mariners - OF/1B/2B Dustin Ackley, UNC 3.) Padres - OF Donovan Tate, Georgia HS 4.) Pirates - C Tony Sanchez, Boston College 5.) Orioles - RHSP Aaron Crow, Independant 6.) Giants - LHSP Tyler Matzek, California HS 7.) Braves - RHSP Zack Wheeler, Georgia HS 8.) Reds - LHSP Mike Minor, Vanderbilt 9.) Tigers - RHSP Shelby Miller, Texas HS 10.) Nationals - RHSP Chad Jenkins, Kennesaw St. 11.) Rockies - RHSP Alex White, UNC 12.) Royals - C Wil Myers, North Carolina HS 13.) Athletics - SS Grant Green, USC 14.) Rangers - LHSP Matthew Purke, Texas HS 15.) Indians - LHSP Rex Brothers, Lipscomb 16.) Diamondbacks - 3B/1B/LF Bobby Borchering, Florida HS 17.) Dianmondbacks - RHSP Mike Leake, Arizona St. 18.) Marlins - LHSP Chad James, Oklahoma HS 19.) Cardinals - LHSP Andy Oliver, Oklahoma St. 20.) Blue Jays - LHSP James Paxton, Kentucky
  24. Looks like Tony Sanchez is a lock for the Pirates. Also, looks like San Diego is likely gonna go with Tate. EDIT: The Pirates and Sanchez have reached a pre-draft deal, and he will be the pick, unless the Padres shock the world and select him.
