Contributions to Political Campaigns
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) I have a problem with allowing self financing with campaigns. To fix it would you set the limit at $0? A percentage of the overall total spent? Is there some level you are comfortable with?

Tattoos
BTW, I was speaking with a volunteer from a local blood bank and she mentioned donations have been down among the retirees because they can't donate for x months after getting a tat. I was thinking to myself wtf? are old people getting that many tats. It's all the "permanent" makeup being done.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) Yep - there's one of the problems. Back to work, dammit! Agreed, and I was guessing that's where you were going. I have a problem when it isn't voluntary via unions, subscriptions, membership, etc.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) The problem is that the speech doesn't fit into a 5 second soundbyte. You would literally have 95% of America changing the channel if you tried to explain the Middle East in that fashion. Its just sad to be honest. Most American's don't understand the rest of the world, because we only see things through our own eyes. But he has some great sound bytes in there. I wish more people would take a sound byte and follow it for more information. But it is probably too much to ask most Americans until the general to take the time. And ironically we are willing to fight and die for others to vote, but won't actually vote ourselves. Perhaps the greatest irony of democracy.

Candidate Spouses
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) Hey, at least we know Kucinich wouldn't stray or play while at work. . . because he doesn't need to. Two thoughts, somewhere there is a supermodel and a guy who's tired of putting up with her s***. and She's too hot for him.

Candidate Spouses
Hillary's spouse arguably has the best political credentials of any of the candidate spouses. I've been reading a bit about Cindy McCain and am very impressed Cindy McCain's Volunteer Efforts / About Cindy McCain / Informing You / Home I did not start this thread to tout Cindy as the end all in spouses, I do not know much of anything about the other spouses, but Cindy does seem genuine.

So who has played their last game in a Sox uni?
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Astros drew over 3 million people for the second year in a row. Kind of funny that they didn't get up over 3 million in 2005 when, well, you know. They lost. And in the end, isn't profit what we really care about? We demand that the team does not over pay for a player, no matter their abilities. We'd love A-Rod at $10,000,000, hate him at $25,000,000, because that would lower the team's profit. $$

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) any justice, liberal or conservative, is trying to put their ideology into the court and onto their decisions. anyone claiming otherwise is full of sh*t. How else would they decide? I disagree with "ideology", I think "opinion" rooted in their ideology, would be more accurate. And that's why we have more than one Justice, and why I like a few from the range of ideologies. And by nature, ideologies are not right or wrong, they are just differences.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Eep. There is a few names on there you really don't want to be endorsing you. I was wondering if any "thanks but no thanks" happen with anyone. I imagine yes.

Among many moments I was , I saw this. Great sound byte and true. All the more reason to regain flexibility in our military by getting out of Iraq sooner, rather than later.

Justice Thomas Speaks
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) My only distinction would be that the Court in those types of cases only approve (and also disapprove) of some of what he and Congress have done. They look at the Constitution and ask "does this fit with their enumerated powers." The power of the Executive and of Congress to act in times of war is pretty broad. That's different than the past decisions dealing with rights (affirmative action cases, religious freedom cases, homosexual rights cases, state power v federal powers cases, etc) that are sweeping opinions mainly arguing about public policy and not the law and the Constitution. I have to agree with your comments about the SCOTUS, especially because it is basically the same rational I have for the ACLU, especially when I disagree with the scum they are representing before the court. But the current political climate is to toss personal freedoms aside. Thankfully we have the SCOTUS and groups like the ACLU to fight that. Despite the difficult start, I think Thomas has done well on the Court. I think he was guilty of harassment, but if we can elect someone like that President, we certainly can tolerate that on the bench. Which is very sad.

So who has played their last game in a Sox uni?
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) Not with that contract he has. Houston can keep him at $16+ for 5 more years. Speaking of which, I wonder how well the team did in profits, which is what makes us all happy

Great article. One thing I particularly agreed with is his points regarding the public demanding certain behavior because he's black. I disagreed with vilifying Craig for voting against the rest of the homosexual community and whenever it comes up with anyone else who is a certain race, religions, etc. It would seem to me there would be the same diversity of opinion among any group of people. I disagree that race hasn't helped him. It does help being a Republican in black skin. But if those ideals are his true ideals, and I believe they are, then we really can't fault him for the benefits he received. In fact it would be worse if he abandoned his beliefs in an attempt to match what some AA would demand. Interesting that b**** mentioned using the Constitution for tp. I guess we'd disagree what that means. With Bush's use of the Homeland Security bills, I think that's exactly what the GOP is doing.

Am I missing something???
I believe this is a one year fluke and feel confident with a minimal of changes. I think the starting rotation could be one of the top 4 or 5 in the AL next year and the pen could be top three or four. That alone should be enough for a play off spot. While Garland gets all the attention, I'd rather see Jose moved, if a starter gets moved.
