QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) I don't like Bill Richardson, but the man is much more capable of running this country than Obama. I've never seen a guy make so much political headway on the basis of one speach. Sure he seems like a decent guy, but politically (sans one speach) the guy has done absolutely nothing. Richardson on the other hand has been one of the bigger faces of the party, has tons of experience running a state (as governor) and to me is a far better person. I disagree with his political agenda (which is natural) but he's far more deserving and capable. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean much anything. Perhaps politically isn't the best yardstick to use? I'm not defending Obama here, but perhaps we have laways over rated political experience. The primary business of politics is to get elected. Perhaps when evaluating a Presidential candidate we should open that horizon to include the rest of their lives and achievements. btw, I believe it's speech Mr. Quayle

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) Tex, if his voting record shows that he toes the party line, how does that NOT give you insight into his character? I was merely pointing out that people say that he is a refreshing change. Well, other than being sober, what difference is there between him and kennedy? While voting may not shed light on his citizenship, etc, it does shed light on his political leanings and how he would tend to lead on issue based items, such as taxes, defense, etc. That IS important. I am not saying it is important, but remember we usually elect a Governor and we never have that to judge them by. Plus as a freshman Senator, you would expect him to toe the party line 100%, no matter which party he hails from. With so many votes always along party lines, if that was the biggest criteria, it wouldn't matter who either party nominates. Actually for a segment of the voting population, party affiliation is the only criteria. For the independent, swing voters, voting records will only be a small part. Plus, where in any of these candidates voting record could you predict how they would handle a 9/11 or Katrina type of catastrophe?

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) After looking at his voting records, i am not sure what anyone sees here that would be refreshing and new other than his skin color. http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category....can_id=BS030017 Obama's record compare to Teddy's record, you find suprising similarities. Might as well elect ted! http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category....can_id=S0410103 If you believe that the only thing important is their voting record, then I guess you could. I believe their is much, much more to being President. A voting record will not shed any light on their character, citizenship, or mental and physical fitness. Their abilities to forge a concensus, their abilities to lead in good times and bad.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) good-bye again? what's the matter? QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Yesterday, I spent much of my afternoon in the ER. With chest pains. Wasn't a heart attack - but at least it wasn't gas. Turns out my chest wall was inflammed. So I went out and celebrated not having a heart attack! Woo! New York City! Vegetarian Tacos for everyone! Inflammed like Britney? Glad you are feeling better.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) I feel very strongly about a company and so many people effected drastically by the actions of one team (less than 1% of that companies partners and work-force). Of course I'm sure people will make a case of Enron being effected by only a few people, but in that case we are talking about pretty much the entire upper/top management of the company (in AA's case you are talking about 1% of the top management, which would be the parnters). The problem with this path is, if the company keeps their crimes and misdemeaners to a small enough group, they could avoid a larger liability. As far as the Apple situation Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) I have gone over all of the conversations that I have had with my boss over the years I have worked, and I cannot remember a time where one's "load" entered the conversation. By "Boss" he means Director and by "work" he means movie QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) Semi-not safe for work http://users.mrbean.net.au/~wlast/Sexuality.html Gotta love the internet or not.

My gynecologist was seeing a pregnant patient who had brought along her young daughter to the appointment. The young girl had brought along numerous toys, and as the mother hopped up on the exam table, the gynecologist made conversation with the youngster. “My you have a lot of nice toys there,” he said. “I brought them for the baby,” she replied. With a puzzled look the gynecologist said, “Well, how is the baby going to play with them now?” The girl replied, “I thought while we were here, you could put them in there for me!” Reprinted by permission of Lynne Murphy © 2000 from Chicken Soup for the Expectant Soul by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Patty Aubery and Nancy Mitchell Autio. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) McCain has a small chance of emerging as different, but unless he does something drastic, he isn't my first choice by a long shot. That Edwards blog posting literally scared the s*** out of me regarding him. I haven't seen that scary by a serious canditate since Ross Perot was running with his horribly destructive economic plan the first time around. Just being a Senator is a huge switch from all the previous winners.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 09:02 AM) I am not going to lie, the segment on the Daily show about this made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. But, then again, artificial anuses ARE comedy gold. /heading to youtube

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) 'Don't be from Florida, Don't be from Florida. . . ' Yep. Florida. Not only that, he's being held in jail in my county. We do we get every whackjob and psychopath in the country? That reminds me, I've been asked to consider a postion in Florida, how far are you from Tampa?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 06:56 AM) I think the country is ready for something different. No Bush, no Clinton, no Kerry, no Gore. Let's start over, and try something different. Obama is a perfect guy in that respect. Something different could be any Senator. Perhaps a war hero type, a Republican. Someone like McCain. What I am going to enjoy is the heavyweight primary battles for both parties. There are some studs running. People who can campaign hard with great oratory skills. I believe this cycle will be remembered for generations. On the Dem side you will have a couple people who could tear down barriers. Obama and Hillary are electable. Rudy and McCain to start the GOP would be an epic party battle. I wish there was a candidate in all this that I could really jump behind. Someone I would want to pound the pavement for. I don't want to be on the sidelines watching the body bags.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Is there a book out there that would teach my Girlfriend about baseball, i mean the true essence of baseball? This is my hand, that is a beer, fetch? What more does she need to know? Seriously, you know as much or more than almost any book you're going to find. If you do go to a game and she's bored in the fifth inning, go for a walk around the park, see some of the cool stuff, grab some food away from the seats, then go back. Have her bring a friend.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) But of course, the key is, in 2012, he'd either be challenging a Dem. incumbent in the primary or challenging an incumbent Repub in the general, and that's guaranteed to be a lot more difficult than saying why you're the guy to clean up Bush's mess. Agreed. He's a man ahead of his time and resume.

His longevity on the world stage is amazing. I kind of like the "we know what he's like" familiarity over who the hell is this guy and what will he do, of Castro's successor.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) My point is this early in the game, intangibles is all Obama has, and he's being annoited as the best thing since sliced bread. He ain't s***, yet, but he's the new media darling... that is until her thighness Ms. Clinton jumps in. Well it sure did take you a long time to get to your point and I agree with you. I thought he would be a great candidate in 2012. This feels too soon. But don't underestimate the intangibles, the American public can feel its way into and out of a recession very easily. You do realize, by your criteria, you eliminated Senators from serious consideration. For the most part they have little executive experience.
-
Wow, that is fascinating. I just assumed that once they went into prison they were dropped from any political calculations. I do see a bit of perverted fairness in those areas with prisons receiving a windfall of sorts for putting up with having a prison in their backyard.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Actually, I said that I think Bill Richardson is the most qualified candidate out there somewhere else around here. He has executive experience, was an ambassador for us, and has some good, moderate views. Where do you fit the intangibles into this? The stuff that made Reagan magical and Bush Jr. inconsistent?
