QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) but i do like your attempt to show wit by using a Freudian term. it's very amusing. Yep, amazing a Psych Grad student using a Psych term. Wow, that is amusing. to some. Another GOP don't click link* *I love doing that because it pretty much assures them of clicking on the link.

First season predictions
I can see a well written, well thought out, accurate prediction of the AL Central that places the Sox, Twins, Indians, or Tigers in the #1 spot. There are certain keys for each team that if they happen, that team is going to have a strong run. Which is the most likely, we that's why they play the games. So when I read these stories, I look for the "what does the writer think has to happen for this to be true".

Fields and Danks in 1st annual ESPN Scouts Inc. top 25
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 01:52 AM) Im not even sure if Crede is that hitter, Im a big Crede fan and last year he was great for us, but I want to see it again b4 im a true believer. In that case he's really ahead of Fields who hasn't shown it once. And showing it the first time is harder than showing it the second. At some point in being a fan I stopped worrying about who and just am grateful there are two guys that can play the position.

13% of Americans don't know about Global Warming
Yep, I was impressed. What would be even more interesting is how many believe the Dems invented it to make Bush look bad.

I found the hippies, alive and doing fine
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) Freegans! I'm finding some irony in them having a web site. I hope it's hosted for free. Cyber-squatting. Minus the food thing, I'm thinking of trying that right after I buy a new external hard drive QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 06:25 AM) Amish? 'Omish' sounds like a transcendental Buddhist thing. No, the Freegans can use computers and the Internet. Only catch is they have to use 386s and 2800 baud modems. Where's that old Amiga I can lend them?!? Can you get on-line with a Commodore VIC20 or do I have to give them my Commodore 64

Vista
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Jesus, the first few SP's will correct numerous security weakness and glitches. Anyone who is serious about their PC is better off waiting for it to be corrected down the line. I cant even imagine the hacker's who are just drooling for a crack at the new OS. The hacker thing is interesting. How would it be different that loooking for something in all the other versions of Windows? It would more than likely effect the entire Windows family. Or do you think they would want to find something that attacks Vista and not all the others? QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) We're not all cyber dorks like you. I forgot that not many people here spend time on computers hooked up to the internet.

Very cool article about how we view and respond to national problems
QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) Believe it or not I do. Not as much as I'd like because college classes take up a good deal of my spare time but I still squeeze in 2-3 a month. Which fictional and comic book do you like the best? Links

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Al Franken will leave his Air America Radio show on Feb. 14th to launch the exploratory process for a run for the U.S. Senate seat from Minnesota in 2008. Oh God. That's a Dem I can't stand. Here's a nostalgic romp

What was/is more special to you?
I was 24 when the Bears won so I was a big fan for both. The chances of the Bears winning a Super Bowl seemed within grasp. The chaces for the Sox seemed to hinge on revenue sharing in baseball and a long wait. So the Sox were a much bigger win. I had resigned myself to never seeing a Sox WS win, like my grandfather and his Cubs.

Leaving no stone unturned
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Maybe see if there are any independent trucking associations around that will let you access or email their members lists (or maybe a message board? Not sure how tech savy most truckers are). if you can find someone running empty from east coast back home, maybe you can work out a deal for cost+. More and more drivers are very tech savvy. Most Truck stops now have wireless internet in their lots. I'm trying to track down a firm.

2nd mortgage vs. home equity loan
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) OK, I tried looking this up myself but I got confused. I know there are people here that can explain it more clearly. I think I understand home equity loans considering we just got one not too long ago. Just throwing some numbers out, correct me if this is wrong: Your home is worth 100,000 and you have 80,000 left to pay on it. You get a loan for 90,000 and have 10,000 to spend on whatever. Then you just make the payments like a normal mortgage. I don't understand how a second mortgage works or how it differs exactly. Someone care to explain it to me in terms I can understand? The terms get tossed around and misused so much. There are two ways to go. One is to basically sell your house to yourself and pocket the profit and pay your new mortgage. (What you described) The second is to create a home equity line of credit which allows you to borrow against the equity in your house. Either way you could end up losing your house if you can't make the payments. Linked

Newt on Iran
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Neither side lived up to the obligations in that treaty. The U.S. was obligated to begin construction of 2 light water (hard to use for weapons production) nuclear reactors in North Korea that they could use for power instead of their older, better for weapons production reactors, and the Congress scuttled funding for that in 1995. That is out prerogative. We can break any treaty but the other side must live up to theirs.

I warned them not to click on the link. I thought one place here to sink or swim together would be a nice thing. I don't think I looked in the conservative thread in months. Kap is #5 in the other thread, no wonder he's always in a Krappy Mood

Contreras to start opening day
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) Contreras should have been the starter last year on opening day, but the Sox rewarded MB for being here the longest. No more Mr Niceteam I guess. You know MB would be out there opening day if he had a nice contract sticking out of his back pocket. Got to showcase the face of the organization then.

I have someone who is interested in donating two small sailboat hulls to me. I have to get them from Palo Alto CA. to South Padre Island, TX for as close to free as possible. Any ideas?

Massett to Jenks??
Boo the results, but it was impossible to boo the man or the effort. Koch has more character than we are use to seeing in an athlete. I really disliked seeing his career crater like that. Far more satisfying to have seen a 'roid player crater like that.

Contreras to start opening day
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) in case you missed it... White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Jose Contreras would be his Opening Day starter. He'll be followed in the rotation by Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Javier Vazquez. Garland remains in the middle despite winning eight more games than either Contreras or Buehrle over the last two seasons. Gavin Floyd is the early favorite to take the fifth spot. Source: Chicago Tribune Nice spot for Garland. It stops becoming an issue for matchups around the third week, or a couple rain outs, etc. What is important, some people believe, is the look we give other teams. Lefty, righty. Power, finess. I believe at this point in their careers, hitters can adjust from day to day. The great ones adjust from AB to AB.
