2008 Presidential Announcement Thread.
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) The top 3 polling on the Dem side are Clinton- who will have 8 years of senate experience by 2008 Obama- who will have 4 years of senate experience by 2008 Edwards- who will have been out of politics since 2004. The top 3 polling on the Rep side are McCain- who will have 22 years of senate experience by 2008 Guiliani- who will have been out of politics since 2002 Gingrich- who will have been out of politics since 1999 anyone notice something similar about 3 of the Top 6 polling candidates???? Perhaps a better phrase would be "no elected position held since" not out of politics, But point taken.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Unless Hillary or Barack does something incredibly stupid, or has something big in their closet, they are going to crowd out everyone else. There is only a finate amount of money to go around, and that is going to prohibit anyone else from getting their word out on the democratic side of things. The other guys in the race are just wasting their time if you ask me. Its sad, but money is the only way to get elected now adays. Great, great, point.

Newt on Iran
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3356103,00.html I couldn't agree more. I have no idea what would happen after such a strike, but I do know that I distrust the governments ability to handle it. Especially now with Congress and the President at odds with policy, I can't imagine how decisions would be made in a timely fashion. Decisions do not have to be made by committee. The President has absolute authority to act. But if you are still concerned, be certain to vote for the Dem candidate in '08

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) Good. There is no room for him in that field anyway, he'd get slaughtered. How are you seeing the primary going on the Dem side? I'm thinking there will be some early knockouts with Hillary and one or two people battling deep. But it will get to 2 or 3 before Super Tuesday.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:10 PM) Living in Texas has really turned you into a sissy And damn proud of it. 45 and rainy? winter is lasting a couple weeks this year. Damn A bunch of these will wind up on plaques being presented for helping with (no need to click just working up the google search results) Laguna Station High Adventure Sea Base on South Padre Island for Boy Scouts interested in SCUBA, Sailing, Fishing, Surfing, Snorkeling, So I figured it would be better to have them professionaly printed instead of using my home color laser. I'm going to compare the results and see how I like these.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Would you while being compared to Hitler, et al? Every President ends his term looking the same way. They age in dog years in the Oval Office. It's hard work, pressure every day.

U.S. Senator Barack Obama
Dear Jim, If nothing else, the last election proved that politics-by-slogan and poll-tested sound bites aren't going to cut it with the American people anymore, and that's why the real test of leadership is not what the President said to Congress last night, but how he works with Congress in the months to come to find real solutions to America's problems. The good news is that in the halls of Congress and across the nation, there is widespread support from both Democrats and Republicans on how to meet the major challenges facing America. Most Americans believe that escalation will not bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end, and that's why I've proposed not just a troop cap, but a phased redeployment that will start bringing our troops home. Most Americans believe that energy independence will come from using more biofuels like ethanol and making cars that actually use less oil, which is why I proposed a bipartisan plan that would raise fuel economy standards for the first time in decades. Most Americans believe that the biggest domestic challenge facing the country is the high cost of health care, and that's why incremental plans that do nothing to bring down costs or guarantee coverage are simply no longer sufficient. We must pass universal health care for every American. The American people are looking for something new. They are hungry for a different kind of politics. In the last week, I've been humbled and inspired to see more than 100,000 of you sign up to join our efforts to change the debate in this country, so that we can begin solving our common problems and pursuing our common dreams. Last night was an evening for rhetoric and promises. But now is the time for action - now is the time to actually get something done. You deserve leadership that's commensurate to the challenges we face in this country, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this happen in the days and months to come. Sincerely, U.S. Senator Barack Obama Allow Ol' Tex to translate from that political double speak: retreat, gettin' out, pulling out, leaving, letting them cover their own asses, adios mother f***ers, good bye desert, hello dessert, saving the budget, saving the GOP,

No offense to Bush in this comment, but he's one man, the Nation's and World's problems are large. He looks like he is carrying them all on his shoulders. I sensed a just let me make it until the end and get the hell out vibe. He hasn't looked like he is enjoying the job anymore.

Dakota Fanning's new movie.
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 05:58 AM) As opposed to the 50+ years where the Catholic League didn't do jack and s*** in regards to abuses their priests perpetrated on countless thousands of children. Faulty logic. Ever been drunk? Then never sday drunk driving is bad. Did you get in a fist fight growing up? Then never say violence doesn't solve problems. The US can not moake comments on anyone's economy, we had a Depression. Don't talk about military strategy, Bay of Pigs. Etc. Intelligent people learn from their mistakes. Other people try to prop up weak arguments when it fits their belief structure. And God help us when we consider entertainment to be watching a child get raped. Sick.

What's Cool, What's Hot
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) Why are there two dildoes hanging off the United States? Those are the routes that the terrorists *really* take, not the one from the south they want you to *think* they are taking. When the Mexican fence is built, the terrorists win.

Dakota Fanning's new movie.
QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/blogs/marquee/index.html Seems people are unnerved at this new movie which depicts the rape of a minor. I just found delicious irony in the fact that the Catholic Church is all up in arms about a depiction of such an attack when it has turned a blind eye to and obstructed probes of ACTUAL attacks by its own priests. So in your world, actually learning from your past mistakes is not a good thing?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) Hey, Tex, where on the Comedy Central videos page did you find the link/script to embed one of their videos into a post? Got one I'd like to put up, but can't figure out where to get the linkage. It was just below and to the right of the video player. You also have to turn on HTML here for it to work.

What's Cool, What's Hot
QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) Trucker hats are soooooooooo 2004. Last summer Bermuda shorts (are those the same as board shorts?) were huge for both men and women. I also tend to think they're more universally flattering than shorter shorts. I'm not sure if they'll be big this summer still. There was some concern that the women on staff would prefer a shorter short that the guys. We also have to include function into the equation. They will be wearing these 10 hours a day, in and out of the water. I assumed the trucker cap was out, what's in?

What's Cool, What's Hot
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 08:21 AM) You're too old to care about being cool, at that age it is just creepy I gotta make certain people will buy this stuff. Old guy stuff is just a really bad idea :-) I also don't want the staff to feel stupid in the uniform. Added to the list, I need about 2 hours of music for a Pachanga. Think Hawaiian meets Mexico party. About 15 minutes will be Patriotic during the fireworks, but the rest will be a mix of Jimmy Buffet, Dred Zepplin, Beach Boys, Modest Mouse, The Who,and ???? need some ideas that fit being outside oin the Gulf.

What's Cool, What's Hot
I need to start buying stuff for my camp this summer. I also need to design t-shirts, caps, hats, and other items. What's hot, what's not? Trucker's caps? Big t-shirt designs on front/back/small designs, etc. I need to theme for four different t0shirts one each for SCUBA, sailing, fishing, and Island Adventure. I also need to order staff uniforms which will be blue swim trunks and a heather grey t-shirt. But are longer "board shorts" in or something shorter? You kids are such a mystery to me

Consider Paul Simon / Jim Thompson keeping a nice local slant and every Sox fan should have a soft spot for Big Jim.
