His longevity on the world stage is amazing. I kind of like the "we know what he's like" familiarity over who the hell is this guy and what will he do, of Castro's successor.

Wow, that is fascinating. I just assumed that once they went into prison they were dropped from any political calculations. I do see a bit of perverted fairness in those areas with prisons receiving a windfall of sorts for putting up with having a prison in their backyard.

I place much more faith on their vision of America and what we can become in 4 years under their direction. I look at their ability to forge compromise with various factions. I look at their ability to raise the American spirit. I want a glimpse at their character, citizenship, and mental and physical fitness. I want to know their views reflect mine in most areas. I don't know what track record could have predicted that Bush would be off the charts brilliant during 9/11 and terrible in New Orleans. What track record would have predicted Kennedy's brilliance in staring down the Russians and vitalizing the space program.

Down here people are not prepared for the cold. I was awake half the night praying for the less privileged who live in dwellings without heat and do not have warm blankets. The colonias are usually just concrete block construction, drafty, and without adequate heat. Then there are those living in mobile homes. On the news they showed a family that would burn wood down to coals and then bring them inside to warm the trailer so their children could stay warm. They used an old plow blade and a couple brick to keep the coals away from anything flammable. The coals were right by the door of the home. I know there won't be much sympathy here for undocumented workers, but last night one young woman was airlifted to the hospital with severe frostbite and many others are being rescued and returned to Mexico before they die of exposure. Risking their lives for a piece of the American dream.

Slick. I don't mind a computer menu, but I do want a clear path to a human if none of the options seems to fit. I get annoyed after waiting five minutes to be put on hold and transfered to another department.

He was brilliant in NY, Tired in NO. But in the end, you will support whomever the GOP wheels out there, so why get yourself all worked up over who the Dems toss into the ring?

I just caught myself proclaiming that I had never heard a greatest hits LP that was better than the artists best albums. I can think that maybe there have been some Live recordings that surpassed the studio stuff, perhaps Framptom Comes Alive, it certainly sold way more than his recordings to that point. But basically greatest hits cds are record company creations to sell some records and leech the last bit of soul from an act. Prove me wrong.

With the backdrop of war and social issues, with candidates getting serious consideration who would have been rejected based on sex and religion, this is going to be a turning point in American history. /grabs another beer.

One factor that I believe is essential is integrity. Another is the cheerleader factor. Reagan was outstanding because he made America feel good about themselves after Watergate and Carter. It was the second coming of the Beatles. They arrived as the nation wanted to move past Kennedy. Reagan walked tall and talked tough, and was damn handsome to boot. You know, he should have been a Texan, not a Californian. Clinton started off like that, rockin' to Fleetwood Mac after a couple of old people was great for America. His personal character flaws killed that by his second term. Is Obama of sound morals and citizenship? We'll find out soon. Is he a powerful speaker that can galvanize the nation? We'll see.
