SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) Third place is fine by me. Better than I worried I'd do. It's like the Iowa Caucasus and the unknown picks up traction while a supposed front runner bites the dust.

James Kim 1971-2006
This is a tragedy, but an avoidable one. When travelling through wilderness areas, whether by foot or by vehicle, giving someone your travel plans including when you expect to return, is rule one. It is almost always better to stay with your shelter.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) I agree with all of those thoughts. I think the people that voted for me hate all of you and by default HAD to vote for me You had the conservative vote about locked up.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) who knew this great conversation would arise from all of this? I hope Greg understands, at least from my perspective, I don't think PMing people is a bad idea...I almost did it. So in a lot of ways I think it was innovative, much like when I made the first sig or started the ask PA thread. I think the debatable issue is how far is it ok to intrude on people's lives? what exactly designates intrusion? discuss. This mirrored real world elections in more ways that I thought. I used a kind of formula that basically started out with name recognition and subtracted negative energy because I felt that thousands of posts would be more important than the debates. Based on that I felt that NorthSide and Rex would be the two strongest candidates. I failed to consider a direct PM campaign because I felt it wasn't appropriate. I didn't think GP had the name recognition in the buster of the other candidates. I felt PA and I had higher negative energy which dropped us out. I know a few of the people who voted for me had actually read all the threads and posts and for that I was truly humbled.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) I hardly consider electioneering to be spam. I guess it depends on how seriously someone takes the actual voting versus debating the issues. To me, the actual counting of the votes was secondary to the debates and reading the well thought out positions. You seemed to put more importance on electioneering. Which is an excellent commentary on why we get the people elected we do. To me receiving a PM from someone I don't normally receive PMs from and asking them to look at a thread and vote is spamming. It is at least close enough for me to not want to do it.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) I didn't have a problem with it FWIW. Usually I listen to the recorded messages from some random person naming each of my registered voter in my family to vote for a certain party. The problem that a couple candidates have is we are mods and from time to time we have suspended accounts for spamming members. It would be difficult for us to talk about no spamming rigfht after spamming.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) It ain't over. Most of the regular posters, and honestly, the people I was most interested in, have voted, from here on out, it's just not that important to me. As far as I am concerned Rex is the winner and I applaud him. I agreed with many of his positions. If some more people are coerced into voting, that's wonderful.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) We're going for realism right? My final campaign strategy: Could you please capitalize Texan For a brief moment I thought of starting a PM campaign and decided I won't. I don't like spam and I believe most people do not like spam. I am glad PA, in a joking manner went negative, I am glad GP out hustled everyone, I wish that an openly Gay candidate could do this well in more places around the country than just cyber-elections. We have many vignettes here which made the process worthwhile.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
As I stated earlier, I was mostly interested if a platform that combined GOP and DEM ideals would have any traction. I wasn't motivated enough to make "lawn signs" or avatars and signatures, although I thought those were pretty cool. If GP is taking the time to PM people, more power to him. It shows the value of hard work in campaigns. Near as I can see, he did not respond too much on any one issue. There is a real lesson here. Just like our President is elected in 30 second sound bites, someone here can basically do the same thing and garner a lot of support.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
I would like to participate in the strategy making of a two party election. If it is as a candidate, that's fine, if we think that Rex versus someone else would be more interesting or entertaining, which is what this is, then I will step aside.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) I don't get it. You're obviously the second best candidate, why would you step aside? unless you WANT to be a VP? I feel ackward suggesting that and then being in the mix. Plus, unless I am misreading the position statements, Rex and I are pretty similar, so taking one of the other candidates may make for a better debate and election.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) OK, top two build tickets. And Tex, its still early - you might not finish in the top 2 you know... Should I start a new poll about this? Whether we want a second vote for Veep, or second vote with Veep candidates like a primary-regular system, or just end it after this one? Since I first suggested it, as I said, I will step aside and allow someone else to take on Rex.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Let's do that. The winner of this election is Prez, then we'll put the other 4 in for a VP vote. Any objections? I'd rather take any two and run as a ticket. To facilitate that, I'd step aside and let someone else take on Rex. We already have a second place, I think running as a ticket would be interesting.

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) Where can I See everyones positions? There is a thread with a position essay and four threads covering taxes, Iraq, education, and the environment, all in the "buster". QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Or maybe a candidate? I thought you said you where a virgin* Coming out of the closet PA? *Oh yes, I went there

SOXTALK ELECTIONS
I am content with these results. I don't think a run-off would change anything, unless we add a VP candidate to the mix. If we add Veeps, then I'm all for it. But hold it to two, which at this moment in time, sounds very self serving.

White Sox still "enamored with A-Rod"
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) Yeah, we'd be fools to trade an impending FA and a guy who had a career year who won't re-sign here anyway for likely the best baseball player of our time. That's my first thought.
