  1. It is rare that the electoral and popular votes don't coincide. What is funnier is when a party uses the electoral vote and try to make it appear as if their candidate was clearly more popular and had more support than he really did. To gauge how the American people felt as a whole, you need to look at the popular vote.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) Can gracefully accept an apology. Can gracefully accept an apology.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) I think I'd do whatever my partner felt to be the best. She's the one violated, ultimately it's her call. I'd just support her decision and love her no matter what. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said.
  4. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) If you dont vote then you automatically forfeit your right to dissent in my book. If you cant be bothered with taking the time out to choose whos calling the shots for you then you need to just shut your piehole and deal with what the result is. This tee shirt says it all. I knew that my vote for President absolutely would not matter. I knew that Kerry would receive 85% of the votes in my country and Bush would win the state. Yet, I still had a Bush yard sign displayed and went and pulled for Kerry after having my finger of Dubya's lever for about 10 seconds. Nothing like waiting until the last second to decide. But Nuke, I don't encourage people to vote. They should just let me decide. All this get out the vote stuff is nonsense. Y'all stay home and let me decide. You will be better off. I promise.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) Makes the best Sox highlight videos on Soxtalk. Closing in on 10,000 posts.
  6. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Talk about over analysis. Talk about a Masters in Baseball Education! Hang around here long enough and read carefully, separate the wheat from the chaff, the b.s. from the fertilizer, and you will know more about baseball than a fern bar full of Cub fans.
  7. QUOTE(Random @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) has not yet put Rock Raines in its sig Random started a great thread.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Ooops, that was a wee bit redundant, wasn't it? Kap has been working for the Department Of Redundency Department.
  9. Did y'all know that we are the United STATES of America? Not the United Individuals of America. Our founding fathers saw this as the states getting together and electing someone to be President. Just thought I'd mention that. It seems so basic, but some people lost sight that we wanted power among the states. Each state was protected, in a fashion, from being taken over by another.
  10. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) First was a Monkees Greatest Hits double album. It had to be about 1974 or 1975. Next up was a Chicago tape. I was from Chicago...so...well...I thought I had to have it. From there I got Chicago IX The Greatest Hits 1969-1974 and Foriegner Double Vision for Christmas one year. Then I was onto Ted Nugent Cat Scratch Fever and Aerosmith's Greatest Hits. Then I was off to the races and it all becomes a blur. But at sometime I got K-Tel's The Rock Album! How many of us here had this one? I have found it was possibly the most owned record ever printed, as it seems EVERYBODY in the 70's had it. I had all that vinyl, plus Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Hotel California, . . .
  11. I'm not certain how much this really matters but I few years ago I took my Scout Troop out to West Texas where we had an unfortunate experience when one of my Scouts was taunted and harrassed about being Mexican-American. My Anglo Scouts jumped to this kids defense and handle it as best as they could. Later, as we were discussing it, I noticed that the anglo kids were far more upset than the Mexican-American kids. When I asked why, the Mexican-American kids replied, it happens so often, it isn't worth getting upset over ignorant idiots like them. So I asked; when it happens, you don't complain, you just suck it up and move on? Yes, Mr. Welton, or else we would walk around mad all day long. It made me mad and sad, and sensitive to the fact that not everyone complains, they each pick the hill they are willing to die on.

  14. Columbia House 11/$.01 I believe Chicago's Greatest Hits was in the mix. BTW, stiffing them on an album didn't prevent me, years later, from buying a house.
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) No longer has the hottest sister on the board. I think Head really, really likes this thread. We may need to change his screen name to BigHead22.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) I don't think doing an impersonation of someone with a foreign accent is the same as using a racial slur. I guess it could be if it was being done in a malicious way...but I really don't think that is what is going on here. First off I applaud YASNY for standing up for what he believes is right even if there hasn't been a lot of support or people thinking it's a big problem. I agree with genious that many times the parody isn't a racial slur, but I still think it is wrong. I would like tosee the site that anyone from the Sox organization could come to and feel welcome. I would like to see the site welcoming every Sox fan, regardless of primary language. I believe some of the "impersonations" step over a line. The best way I can describe it is this feels more like a blackface ruitine during segregation, than a tribute.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) It will be interesting to see if this is a PETA ploy. They like to stir s*** up in the european tabloids, because that stuff is all printed as fact and people seem to believe it more. IF all that stuff is true, I dont know why the Vet's lawyer would deny it and say he is still treating the animals. My guess is the vet wants to get paid and doesn't want to say he is ignoring the animals. That probably would not be good for business.
  18. Excellent points one and all. I think the business of politics and getting re-elected is more on their minds that governing.

  20. I'm glad she's back for another go, but this is clearly a phasing out. I wonder when she will be eligible for the HoF. Can her "number" be retired.
  21. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) I don't think they SHOULD be in the military. A new branch of domestic service should be started. OK. Like a Mormon mission? I think idiots like this need more than a national service corp that will take care of them for a couple years.
  22. Notice another Texas Republican turned independent to avoid running in the primary against a machine candidate. The GOP is not going to lose this district. The GOP candidate will win, and that candidate will be Tom DeLay. President is a stretch, but he will be back in congress.
  23. Miltary is not a reform school or prison. Our military does not need wack jobs like this. They would be bad for moral, bad for discipline, and quite possibly, could get innocent soldiers killed.
  24. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) The object for cost conscious clubs should be to avoid them and go for alternatives. And it always comes down to this, what magical hold does Boras have that would cause the Sox to offer more than they should? They obviously can't trust themselves to hold to a budget when they talk to Boras, in fact, KW had to have his assistant negotiate. Why is everyone scared of Boras to the point of not even wanting to talk to the man? If they believe $X is a fair contract and that is what they are willing to spend, why would they suddenly spend $2X? Someone tell me the super powers that Boras has. He can't sneak up on anyone, everyone knows what they are getting when he's the agent. Could it be that year after year Boras has the top free agents who command top dollar and the Sox have created Boras to be the monster so the fans divert their attention. I agree a bad contract sucks, especially as your payroll gets smaller. I think what happens on the field is a bigger factor in whether a contract sucks or not, not the agent. Last I looked the agent wasn't swinging the bat or grabbing the leather. I made my point, I have to stop responding, I know it's been beaten to death.
