  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) It could be reported that he was wearing a dress and a curly wig hosting a martyr for his dolls... that wasn't my question though. Then yes, suicide bombing is a way to martyrdom, but you knew that.
  2. Could be good for the border area. Plus better jobs in Mexico keeps more Mexican workers home and the border region safer. As soon as Mexico's economy is so strong that they do not need to risk their lives for jobs up north, then only terrorists will be crossing the border illegally.

  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) It amazes me the tone when people are challenged around here. The patronization is amazing. It's kind of like our president. LOL, you are still amazed? That's wonderful to be so childishly amazed. I kid because I care™ I just thought it was funny that SS didn't post a link to Bush's statements. That seemed more important than pointing out that no one else did. But nice call, here's a pretzle, chew carefully.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) So is committing suicide to avoid being arrested enough to be a "martyr"? It could be reported that the ugly American blood thirsty infidels bombed him and he dies a martyr. Remember their press is as unreliable and biased as ours.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) What no references on here to Bush praising Murtha and his service? I am shocked What, not just posting Bush praising Murtha, but taking a shot at everyone else, I'm shocked From the Wichita Star
  7. Happy Birthday to you . . .
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Now you want to speculate about what the founders intent was when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. The answer is.......who knows. All we can do is abide by it. I think anyone who has proper training and obtains them through legal means should be able to own a firearm. The biggest misconception about gun-rights advocates is that they are all about handing out weapons to whoever wants them. Thats not true at all. I find it funny that people rant and rave about the NRA but they dont realize that they are the strongest proponents of the type of responsible gun ownership I just outlined. They spend a trainload of money offering free classes to people about firearms ownership and marksmanship and also spend a great deal of time helping train soldiers going overseas. I agree with you here. As far a speculation, that's almost a separate issue. I have some issues with the NRA, but they do a lot of good work. They have been over zealous at times in defending some laws and fighting others but they seem to have pulled back from the extremes. I am no longer a member so I'm back to just following some news reports.
  9. I don't believe the Second Amendment really was meant for a modern day Joe Sixpack and his handgun. At the time the Constitution was written, it was nearly impossible, and certainly inconvienent, to live without a gun. The country would not be able to afford a standing Army like any would be attackers, so a well regulated militia would come from the citizens. I'm not anti-gun and would love to be on the range tomorrow with you, I've never had the pleasure of shooting a Glock. I love a piece of well made machinery. I think if gun owners were more responsible the world would be a better place. I believe to be effective for home protection and gun must be readily available, loaded, and ready to go in seconds, so no complicated safety devices, no locked up ammo. That of course, is a recipe for disaster with children around, so I invested in a really good security system, and a home in a good neighborhood and leave my guns very well secured.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:36 PM) Quick: 2 cool points for the name of the band Rafferty fronted, and 2 more for their signature song. . . Stuck in the Middle with You. Stealers Wheel Am I crazy or does his vocals sound a bit like Paul's?
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Howd this go from a thread about Iraq to one about guns? LOL! Funny you all should mention this as Im off tomorrow and was planning to take my glock to the range and exercise my second amendment rights. WOO HOO! The difference is, *you* are part of a well regulated militia. I'm not. And last I checked, Glock was not American made, you shooting some Nazi iron? oops I forgot, they have a plant stateside . . .
  12. Another song that I just heard again for the first time in a long time is Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, I really like that song.
  13. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Well, some of those aren't exactly the songs you'll typically hear on the radio from these artists. I will say, though, that I probably know some of these songs and don't recognize the song title. (Think "Teenage Wasteland" vs. "Baba O'Reilly"). Again, my point was NOT to criticize KG's post. I'm a top 40 kind of guy, anyway, so my list of favorite songs would be pretty embarrassing. Full of early '80s British synth-pop like ABC. They play a re-mix of "In the Air Tonight" by Genesis here in Phoenix that is truly awful, though. I think we all wind up with favorites on albums (cd) from artist precisely because they aren't pounded to death by radio. I always liked Refuge by Tom Petty, but Ethridge's version really kicks ass.
  14. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Do you think I just fell off a turnip truck? I’m hip to your sorry-ass-no-green-using-sit-back-and-wait-to-see-what-sort-of-responses-this-provokes tactics. Can you believe that 17,108 of those 30,242 gun deaths were suicides? I never would have guessed so high. Should we informally consider them in your criminal category or the nuts category? There might even be an al-Qaeda joke hidden in here somewhere, too. Nuke wasn't around, I thought I'd help out the NRA crowd a bit. BTW, I have owned various firearms, and do not believe they have a role in home protection when there are kids in the house. I also do not believe the founders predicted modern armies and guns in the hands of average citizens having no roll in protecting the country or procuring food.
  15. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Not trying to pick a fight here, just reacting to the "us" versus "those nuts in the Middle East" dichotomy. I'll just mention that in 2002 there were 30,242 gun deaths in the U.S. Carry on. Most of these are honest citizens defending themselves from criminals.
  16. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) This is not meant as a slam, and I'm not looking to fight , but...everytime I see a list of songs that someone has on their iPod it looks like this. A bunch of songs by a bunch of bands that I've never heard. What, nobody listens to U2? Nobody likes to throw in the Rolling Stones Greatest Hits? Ever heard of Willie Nelson? Wasn't "Appetite for Destruction" as important to anyone else as it was to me? That said, I wish I had the pc knowledge and power to download the songs on your list. I'd like to give them a spin. Oh, and "What's Goin' On?" is an awesome song. It will remain pertinent for eternity. Genesis, T-Rex, Clash, Smokey, Faces (Rod and Ron), all seem pretty mainstream to an old guy.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Me too. I disagreed with his positions a lot, but he always held true to what he believed and didn't waffle on what he thought. Yes, he never waffled in his beliefs, for those interested I4E can be found here.

    I'll admit that unless there is something huge happening I don't click the link, I turn the page, I flip the channel. It seems like another day brings more of the same.
  22. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) I was thinking the same thing.
  23. Murtha 2008? McCain - Murtha 2008? McCain + Conservative Dem = Dream Ticket Politically, I believe the GOP wants this settled before the presidential primaries. This is not the issue that will help them. We could also see some Dems dragging their feet, hoping for an "issue".
