QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) I'm having the same problem. I saw the old user record from the old SoxTalk was SHATTERED. It was 233 on the day of the Pods trade. It's 351 now. Hold the celebration, it was search bots pushing the total up. Southsider and Kap were busy on the case, determining why so many guests all were visiting from the same group of IP addresses.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) It is not 1950 anymore and institutional racism is long dead. Tell that to the 2001 MLB Manager of the Year who hasn't even gotten an interview. Yes, large corporations have been good at following the laws, but the greatest growth in jobs are in small business which are exempt from most requirements. Racism is alive and well in America. It's just in small business.
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) The poll should read: What internet do you use? Dialup DSL Cable other The speed of the internet would control how fast each page loads and would help the decision on what size of limit to put on signatures. I'll start another one at SL&P

  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) So, what were we talking about? Oh yeah. What do you think the possibilities of a Golden Girls reunion are? Movie, series, or TV special? Do you have the complete series on DVD? I actually prefered her work on Maude and later her modeling career for photoshop pics.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Yes because Jesse Jackson never did anything to help the black community apparently. He is. Nobody. IMHO Jesse's days of influence are behind him.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Point you ask? Just cuz you are white doesn't me you can't be discriminated against. Down here if you look like you are from Mexico, visiting, they roll out the red carpet and pour the champage because they know you are here buying not shopping. If you look "local" you are not a high percentage sale. You are probably shopping around more and might even return something. Salespeople have always profiled

  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) K of C only offers Life. Sorry, I should have made that destinction. I have a couple K of C policies on my wife. They didn't like my health history and wouldn't cover me. I thought health might be something they decided to get into.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) I can agree with that. I take Cosby's comment to be critical of the jesse Jacksons more than the black community. The JJs blame "whitey" first. Yes, "whitey" and "society" is a problem, but pointing fingers won't fix anything by itself. Change has to be made within the community in conjunction with "fixing" society. That makes sense. I just wonder how much influence these so called "community" leaders really have. Who are the whote community leaders who are influencing me? Dubya? Rushie?
  14. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) here is what I need to know: A guy is outted the 1st time he's busted? Is it random or mandatory? Do they know when they will be tested ahead of time? Everyone, 100% of all players, are going to be tested during the season. I didn't see if it would be a scheduled date, how much notice the players would be given, etc. I wonder about the call ups, do they piss in the bottle on the way to the stadium?
  15. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) If it's a disruption then it's a problem. These cases don't seem to be disrupting anyone. Do you wait for a disruption and then act, or work it out ahead of time?
  16. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) One reason I have Insurance through the Knights of Columbus: They ar the only insurance priovider that covers a baby in the womb. Just FYI. I assume that is life insurance and not health insurance you are speaking of. Plenty of health insurance plans cover the baby in the womb.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) If not a White dominated society, which I suppose is correct, then what's the other option? What constitutes an equal society? What could possibly occur which would change a Lexus Dealer's prejudice, or a neighborhoods misconception of a certain race? Several of the options you listed are impossible to improve. However, if a middle-eastern individual feels he's been unfairly discriminated, there's laws enacted which forbid racial profiling. If a political candidate believes his progress is being held down, then he can seek justice. I agree various approaches to creating an equal society are wrong, but seriously, what approach would be beneficial to everyone? Perhaps nothing but time and a population shift. But one step is for "whitey" to recognize it still isn't a level playing field. Pointing smugly to Bill Cosby and others and thinking society as a whole doesn't have a problem, that it's the minorities fault, isn't going to help. Cosby is right in that there are problems within the black community as well, and they must be addressed. But the rest of society shouldn't see that as an excuse to stop trying and fix theirs.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) I agree that affirmative action, wherever it's practiced, is wrong. I also agree in principle that proprety taxes being used to fund education creates a lopsided playing field but I'm kind of at a loss as to how to remedy that. Seems to me that any other funding formula would create a zero-sum game regarding education dollars. One proposal here in Texas that is being talked about is creating some standard school building plans. Why re-invent school each time a district builds a new building? Have some standard plans and create a statewide building fund to build the schools. Texas has a Robin Hood program where some schools share their bounty. The money then has to flow through the state. I've been on the fence with school vouchers for some time. I do not want a program that pulls money out of public schools without pulling students out. I think every taxpayer has an obligation to fund public education. I also wonder what good vouchers are if private schools are allowed to set admission standards. Our public schools are forced to accept any student under 16 years of age. Why place the school at another disadvantage?

  20. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) I don't believe that way. The fetus has the same rights, IMO, conceived in rape, incest, whatever. It certainly is a lot cleaner position logically and consistently. Not any murkiness, no wavering. And I respect that. I also think it is very easily justified. One problem the Pro-Choice has in this debate is the polar opposite of that position would be abortion, is OK whenever, for any reason. I don't believe many American's truly believe late term (3rd trimester) abortions are morally justified. So the pro-Choice group has to paint some moving line that no one can agree on.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Which should tell you something. Why didn't the ACLU sue to keep this stuff out of the classroom? Genesis (the Bible book, not the Phil Collins led band ) was "taught" in my son's Freshman Honors English Lit class. Interesting placement of creation. I do not think it was a coincidence that Genesis was selected. If these Muslim, or Islamic, or whatever customs are presented in a World History context, I do not see the issue. If this was a weekly, school scheduled, program, like a morning Christian prayer or grace before lunch, I will bet the ACLU would have been involved. One time vs. everyday I believe is one crossing point in this debate.
  22. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Want more? How are these the "state" establishing religion? There is a moving line in all this. What is an acceptable form of prayer in a school and what is not? If I pray by facing the nearest bronze object and humming and you hold hands and whisper, and he needs to go outside and face wherever, is the school obligated to accommodate each of us? Where should they draw the line? If we accept my Church as being "acceptable" and therefor allowing me my prayer tradition, and don't accept yours, who chooses? Should the schools decide on a case by case basis? Should we look at how many kids of that faith are in the school, and if it's only one or two, they are out of luck? Should the government choose and create a list of religions tat are acceptable and those prayer traditions are allowed and all others are not? It is far easier to reject all or accept all, than to pick and choose. I do not want my religion placed above anyone else's, nor do I want it placed beneath. I prefer equal footing for all and if that means rejecting all forms of prayer in schools, I will accept that.

  24. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Except if you read the story, you'll find the ACLU was not at all involved in this case. So your point is what? My gut tells me if this was thePassion of Christ being portrayed, the ACLU would be more willing to get involved. I want an even playing field. I don't mind learning about other world views (religions) but treat mine equally with the rest.
