Gee, you don't think the guy would lie to escape the torture, do you? And what do you do if the information is false? Execute them? How close to death are you willing to go, or is a street execution OK if time is critical and it saves dozens of lives? Why do you think it is that civilized countries have all condemned torture?

Saddam Hussein has WMD and must be stopped. Can't find them so . . . . . . Saddam Hussein is torturing citizens he must be stopped. Now we are saying torture is ok, perhaps we can use his old torture rooms, hire some of his old guys. People being tortured will say anything to make it stop. It is by a wide margin the most unreliable information you can get. Perhaps Halliburton can start building racks, electroshock devices, cattle prods, etc. Great shining example of America. After reading Nuke's comments I am beginning to wonder if the prisoner abuses were an isolated situation, and the guards involved felt it was wrong, but just following orders. Seems like soldiers may find it justified.
  4. It isn't always that easy. In fairness to all politicos there may be very good reasons they favor policies that help their biggest donors. Let's say, for example that I am a congressman and ChiSoxFn has turned this into a media empire, wealthy and powerful, and reaches millions of voters. He knows what a liberal asshole I am, and what a GOPerbot Nuke is. He and Nuke share a lot of values and opinions. ChiSox donates millions, writes editorials on Soxtalk, and campaigns for Nuke. Nuke wins. Later a bill comes up that would help ChiSoxFn. Since Nuke respects ChiSoxfn, they share many of the same values, it would be no surprise that Nuke would vote for the bill, regardless of the donations. If you respect each other and otherwise agree, the votes and donations, should line up. It's the slimy corporations that work both sides of the aisle with their donations. The sell out is in the party politics. When junior congressman and senators are forced to vote party lines or risk having opposition and no money in their next primary. Vote against party lines and get low level nothing committee appointments. Vote against party lines and never be able to sponsor a bill.
  5. Looking at Utah and UT. Utah would not go undefeated in the Big 12 South. At best they would also have lost to OU. I just do not believe Utah is as strong as UT. Cal and UT should be the at-large this season.

When we sink to their level, we become them and they us. Soon there is no difference. So what are we trying to accomplish? And we wonder why the world hates us :headshake Campaign to get our laws changed then. If you think torture is a great way to get information, then write your congressman and ask him to introduce a ban that allows the US to torture instead of hiding behind other countries. Certainly we can torture even better than the Syrians. Write to your newspaper and tell the world you support torture. And let's not stop overseas, let's see how effective it is at home. Then we can make a dent in the crime rate. Electroshock everyone who is in for questioning until they confess.

I am trashing two computers and pulling parts along with a new mobo and CPU and building a new system with #1 son. Everything was moving along until yesterday when the system really started to slow down. The OS on the hard drive we kept was an unstable copy of ME. I decided to uninstall ME, with the thought of upgrading to XP. Midway through the uninstall the system crashed, now it wants an emergeny startup disk. Problem is the emergency startup disk is a Compaq and the disk shuts down because it isn't in a current Compaq computer. Any tips? I need to boot, but it is missing the system.ini

And when they torture Americans we have no reason to complain. Reap what you sow. I want protection for American soldiers who are captured. It seems rather hypocritical to demand proper treatment for our soldiers and then turn around and use torture.

  11. Anyone else ever even heard of a one-point safety? I didn't. Sometimes the referees are amazing to me.
  12. I've seen more UT Longhorns than any team this season and from what I saw, they could have won almost any other conference in the nation. Their only loss was to Oklahoma, who may be the best team in the nation. I would have a hard time leaving them out, again.
  13. They must be shell shocked. What more could go wrong?
  14. Nice. In Texas there was a shooting over about the same thing. Anyone burn down their house trying to deep fry (yummmmmmy) a turkey? That's always my favorite Thanksgiving story. Man heats up a couple gallons of fat, man puts in turkey, man gets drunk, knocks over turkey pot, burns down house.
  15. That wasn't all they were hoping to "accidentally" discharge It could have been tragic, and yes the poor kid's life would have been totally f***ed instead of partially f***ed as it is now. With this kid's luck, he'll get a female judge. Judge: "Now I want you to really think about this. You understand your actions could have had a tragic ending. I am going to ask you one time, why shouldn't we lock you up . . ." Kid (to himself): I wonder if the Judge is wearing any clothes under that robe? Down here, for $20 and a ride to Boy's Town in Mexico, he kid could have had a nice hooker.

  20. With his talent, I believe he may be rewriting how the pros define a 2G. This will be more an issue of the oppostiion not having anything to guard him, and that could be a bigger worry than who LJ guards.
