  1. I've been up to San Antonio a couple times the past month, but never any further north. Maybe for the Rangers-Sox game next summer.

Now perhaps we have different definitions of torture in mind. For the sake of this debate, I do not define torture as anything that is currently allowed by US and International laws. Torture is the kind of tactics that Saddam Hussein used, torture are the kinds of acts that current laws do not allow. Torture are the kinds of acts that the US cannot commit and that we expect for prisoners we turn over to Syria, Egypt, etc. Is it your belief that these "rules of war" should be changed and methods that currently are outlawed, should be allowed? The US and International laws should allow for greater physical and psychological threats and methods? The civilized world has a problem with defining terrorists. Without a trial they are accused terrorists. There aren't established protocols for dealing with accused terrorists and the old methods don't seem to fit. In our past, we could define these people as either war combatants or common criminals. Both have specific protocol for their detention and trial. It is against our beliefs as Americans to indefinitely detain someone who is innocent until proven guilty. We are placing punishment before any trial. A backwards step if you believe that US laws and procedures are the best in the world.

  5. I differentiate between a meaningless award and the injury. I am certain that every person at Walter Reed would gladly exchange their Purple Heart for the ability to see, or walk, or s*** through a colon instead of a colostomy bag. Imagine the bs of paying a high price for service to our country, perhaps losing your eye sight, and some officer shows up to hand you a Purple Heart. You know that back in your unit, Bobby receive the Purple Heart when he tripped over his shoe laces running back to get more beer. Or you hear Swifties telling you how this guy lied to get his. I am not saying that the injuries are meaningless, I am saying the awards have become meaningless. Yes, I do listen to Rush, O'Reilly, some Hannity, and a bit of Laura Ingrams. Amazingly, the biased media, in an area that the GOP could not find anyone willing to run against the incumbent Dem for congress, the only two talk radio stations play GOP campaign speeches 24/7. So it's my only choice.

Rereading some of Nuke's comments, I think he and I are aiming at different targets. I believe when the US has a person in custody, we should use every lawful means to extract information. Nuke mentioned that in congressional testimony, the CIA and DOD methods have been credited with gathering much critical information. Further, the US, to use a sports metaphor, has proven the courage to call a foul on ourselves when we exceed those US and International Law boundaries. Other countries do not have that courage of conviction. I agree 100% with that process. I believe it is wrong for us to turn over control of a suspect to a third country because our methods are not working and we believe torture will. That is the same hollow, cheap, logic that had Clinton trying to define sex as something other than what millions of Americans would. I want the US to stand above other countries. I want us to be the shining example for the rest of the world. When you sleep with pigs, you smell like a pig. Torture by proxy is a stain on all our hands.
  7. I am guessing that the logic behind 1 point is that the original play was worth 1pt.

IIRC the lemon laws only pertain to new vehicles. I would start with a dealer, what are they telling you? Have you been able to determine what is leaking? Will it leak just going through a car wash? One great avenue is Tom Martino, he has a radio show and really gets results with consumer complaints, as long as you have a legitimate issue.

I assume the machine you are having trouble with is not the one attached to the router. Can you attach it to the router directly and see what it does? That would isolate a wireless problem. Also, try uninstalling the network and reinstalling it. That should fix some issues.

What kicked my butt this weekend, as far as networking, was adding a new PC with Norton and Windows Firewall running. I deleted Norton, ending any conflicts and was able to access the net and get file and printer sharing to work. Perhaps that's what is causing your problem? Also, in a totally different problem. Anyone needing a boot disk and not having one close by, bootdisk.com (go figure) has a slew of boot disks and other troubleshooting utilities.
  11. s***, I'll bet half the guys lied to get them. There is no fact checking. Get a boo boo playing cards and here's a purple heart. I'm certain that only a couple guys ever faked and lied, and gee, that one guy runs for President and all these guys remember him. Can't discredit one guy and not the rest. The Swift Boat guys exposed a system of lying and false awards for bravery. Don't have a clue? I read everything the Swift Boat guys wrote. I listened to Rush and Hannity and they convinced me that the military loves to decorate themselves in brightly covered ribbons and really don't care if anything could be proven. It's harder to get a subscription to Sport Illustrated than a Purple Heart. I stubbed my toe, quick get me a Purple Heart form. Two more and I'm out of here. Damn I pinched my finger when I was torturing that woman, quick get me a form, 1 more and I'm going home. I am certain that now and again some guys really were hurt and deserve the award. To bad there isn't one that isn't tainted they could wear. When it's that easy to fake it, what is it really worth? Hell, I could buy one at the last gun show I was at for $15.00.

Nice, crosschecked with what you already know, so this is just for fun. Do you even read what you type? The CIA and DOD follow US laws and do not torture. If that information is so valuable, as YOU claim, then why send prisoners off to Syria and other places to be tortured? Or are you saving that CIA and DOD officials testified that they broke US laws and tortured prisoners? Sorry I am a conservative when it comes to our laws. I believe we should respect them. But hey, to each his own. I guess the military doesn't mind breaking laws when it serves their purpose. Hell, they gave Kerry a medal for shooting a child in the back. Why is torture illegal? Why does the US have to hand the innocent until proven guilty suspects to a third party? And nice to know how serious you take the US Constitution. Too bad they don't make military personnel take an oath to uphold the Constitution instead of s***ting on it. The more I know about our military and the liars and the fake medals and awards, the less I respect them. They don't even respect the Constitution and our laws. :headshake

    He's the 2005 E-Lo find!
  14. Bottom line is we know some servicemen and women are liars. We know that all the pretty ribbons and medals are a big farce to make people look good. Purple Hearts and Bronze Stars are a joke. The military is as f***ed up as Enron.
  15. You have to somehow determine which is the better team. Since they did not play head to head, it becomes an intellectual exercise in comparison. Could UT have won Utah's conference? Could Utah have win UT's conference. If I had to take one of those scenarios, I'd take UT over Utah.

No, I'd pull out his fingernails until he lied to me. So I ask again, why is it that countries have banned torture? Do you eat with silverware or just use your mouth? Do you really think the information is accurate? History has told us time and again that humans will lie to have the torture stopped. Or do you think with the proper amount of pain, they will tell the truth? So you basically agree with Saddam Hussein that torture is a good thing?
  17. But only if you are using Firefox browser. Spellbound link here Funny, Firefox came up as misspelled :-)
  18. dood!? I guess I'm not hip on the new phrases dude
  19. Texsox replied to Texsox's topic in SLaM
Gee, you don't think the guy would lie to escape the torture, do you? And what do you do if the information is false? Execute them? How close to death are you willing to go, or is a street execution OK if time is critical and it saves dozens of lives? Why do you think it is that civilized countries have all condemned torture?
  20. Soxtalk's The Cheat gets a mention

Saddam Hussein has WMD and must be stopped. Can't find them so . . . . . . Saddam Hussein is torturing citizens he must be stopped. Now we are saying torture is ok, perhaps we can use his old torture rooms, hire some of his old guys. People being tortured will say anything to make it stop. It is by a wide margin the most unreliable information you can get. Perhaps Halliburton can start building racks, electroshock devices, cattle prods, etc. Great shining example of America. After reading Nuke's comments I am beginning to wonder if the prisoner abuses were an isolated situation, and the guards involved felt it was wrong, but just following orders. Seems like soldiers may find it justified.
  22. It isn't always that easy. In fairness to all politicos there may be very good reasons they favor policies that help their biggest donors. Let's say, for example that I am a congressman and ChiSoxFn has turned this into a media empire, wealthy and powerful, and reaches millions of voters. He knows what a liberal asshole I am, and what a GOPerbot Nuke is. He and Nuke share a lot of values and opinions. ChiSox donates millions, writes editorials on Soxtalk, and campaigns for Nuke. Nuke wins. Later a bill comes up that would help ChiSoxFn. Since Nuke respects ChiSoxfn, they share many of the same values, it would be no surprise that Nuke would vote for the bill, regardless of the donations. If you respect each other and otherwise agree, the votes and donations, should line up. It's the slimy corporations that work both sides of the aisle with their donations. The sell out is in the party politics. When junior congressman and senators are forced to vote party lines or risk having opposition and no money in their next primary. Vote against party lines and get low level nothing committee appointments. Vote against party lines and never be able to sponsor a bill.
  23. Looking at Utah and UT. Utah would not go undefeated in the Big 12 South. At best they would also have lost to OU. I just do not believe Utah is as strong as UT. Cal and UT should be the at-large this season.
  24. Texsox replied to Texsox's topic in SLaM
When we sink to their level, we become them and they us. Soon there is no difference. So what are we trying to accomplish? And we wonder why the world hates us :headshake Campaign to get our laws changed then. If you think torture is a great way to get information, then write your congressman and ask him to introduce a ban that allows the US to torture instead of hiding behind other countries. Certainly we can torture even better than the Syrians. Write to your newspaper and tell the world you support torture. And let's not stop overseas, let's see how effective it is at home. Then we can make a dent in the crime rate. Electroshock everyone who is in for questioning until they confess.
