  1. I think further listening will mine more gold. I am trying to ID some of the voices. Like who was narrating Sgt. Peppers?
  2. There was also stories circulating a year ago that the CIA and other agencies were sub contracting interrogations to countries whose laws allowed for more aggresive forms of interoggation (re: torture).
  3. APU, Just one ray of light on the Texas stats. As everyone recalls from Junior High Civics by virtue of being born on US soil, a person becomes a US citizen. Not so surprisingly, many young mothers begin labor while visiting the US along the border. Poor, many times unwed mothers, can receive services and have their babies be US citizens if they are here. There are two areas of immigration. Both countries allow visists in a relatively barrow band along the border (about 20 miles). You can pretty much come and go for shopping, visiting friends, etc. You are not allowed to work or stay longer than X weeks or months. I'm not certain how long we allow Mexicans to stay, I do know it is much shorter than we allow Canadians (gee, why is that?). So birth stats are not so cut and dried when evaluating sex education and other programs in Texas. I would imagine New Mexico, Arizona, and California have similar issues.
  4. Sorry, I was too busy listening to post last night.
  5. As I was looking at this picture in the story involving Bush seeing all the photos I realized how diverse the top brain trust is. Isn't this a cross section of America?
  6. If you count club house, leadership, and making those around you better, which may be old school values, Ted is head and shoulders above Bonds.
  7. Who were the other two minor leaguers we picked up? I remember feeling so pumped when we got Koch. I thought that was the final piece of the WS puzzle. :banghead
  8. misty water colored memories of Koch.
  9. IIRC one of his saves was a 1-2-3.
  10. Here's a small problem I see if Rumsfeld resigns. Just to be clear, I like the guy, he seemed trustworthy, and I think he has done a better than average job. I would hope that if he resigns, the public and military doesn't think that solved the problem. We need to update policies and training in dealing with detainees. The face of war has changed and we are getting in some strange situations. We were there to help liberate these people. We cannot take soldiers trained to be mechanics and make them responsible for prisoners without real and constant supervision. While we understand that most 99.9% of US soldiers are of moral character, these six just confirmed to the world the image we have in some corners of the globe. That hurts us. A couple dozen Iraqis drag corpses through the street and we cry for blood. A few hundred Hamas members wave AK47 and threaten death to all Jews and some want blood. It is easy for me to see why some Iraqis feel threatened and distrustfull of US soldiers.
  11. Looking at baseball does anyone ever say "We have the best team $65,000,000 can buy? Does it make you feel any better that finishing third with a lower payroll than someone else finishing third? Why does any fan care if a team can afford to fill a hole or not. Do you somehow feel better knowing your team cannot afford someone?
  12. Bonds isn't a crybaby on the field Bonds has never been caught with a banned substance Ted Williams is the greatest left fielder, and outdoor enthusiast ever. Didn't Carlos May play left?
  13. Looking at steals Lee is 3 for 5 and Uribe is 4 for 6. Ozzie probably needs to look at these two. Are botched H&R reflected as caught stealing? Are fielders indifference counted as steals? Brando brings up some good points. Maybe we have swung the pendulum too far. I said last year that JM was managing for big, slow, power hitters. The team was built for big inning power. Maybe we haven't changed enough elements yet to play small ball effectively. A-Row is 2 for 2 in stolen bases so I guess both times he got on base he was successful in stealing second

I would expand that to our division. Last year if we could have beaten Detroit, Detroit! we would be talking about the playoffs.
  22. That would seem like the most likely scenario, behind Wright reclaiming his spot.

  25. LMAO. The Nigerian scam is a classic and there are several websites devoted to it. When fax machines were new it gave a whole new opportunity and now with email the skies the limit.
