I see we have some pockets of people. I know I was recruited off the MLB boards and will protect the anonymity of the person who sent the email to protect him from an avalanch maybe 2k4 PMs asking him WTF
  7. Maybe we could give tham back Kessinger, I hear he's staying in shape. I really don't like trading with the Cubs.
  8. I think I am tracking with you. Include morality and ethics as it occures in other academic areas, not creating a separate class? Are we talking beginning in elementary school?

So you reject any chain of command, buck stops here, type of arguments? I think I have a problem with the generality of that comment. The CEO or President would never be responsible for the actions of their employees unless they specifically told them to do somethign. Creating an atmosphere or allowing it to happen without stopping it would be ok?
  10. How about we let them wither on the vine? :fthecubs
  11. Isn't it also misleading that some people who are not actively looking for, or wanting employment, are listed as unemployed? Or is this a different statistic?
  12. Of course he used that money to improve the Sox
  13. What are you going to teach and stay within the rights of US citizens? How about the morality of food? Kosher? Vegetarian? Vegan? Morality is not a one size fits all. Are cows and rats sacred? Is premarital sex moral? Death Penalty? Abortion? Assasinations? Non Violence vs. Violence? There is one standard of unnacceptable behavior in the US. Morality manifests itself as behavior. Until someone acts, society cannot take action. So what is the common set of behaviors that we, as Americans, believe in? Our civil code. I still am interested in why you feel we should train hundreds of thousands of people to teach morality (teachers).
  14. You talked about parents being unqualified to teach morality. I think it is each parents decision on how they teach their children. If you do not feel qualified to teach morality, let someone else. Even if it is being taught in the schools, it is still the parent's responsibility to be certain the child understands, etc. If not the parents, who should be responsible? The teachers? Johnny just got busted for drugs, send the teacher to jail? Sue the school for failure to instill the US moral code? Society already determines what behavior is acceptable and the relative severity of the infraction. These are called laws and punishments. Roll through a stop sign and you may get a warning, steal a bicycle and maybe get arrested and pay a fine, kill someone and spend the rest of your life behind bars. Violate copyright laws by illegally burning a CD and pay a fine. That is the US moral code. Are we now going to establish what to do when you see a homeless person begging for money? How much of your income you should give to charity? What are you covering that isn't already covered by laws?

House Democrats Seek Rumsfeld's Ouster WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday accused Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of a cover-up in the scandal over abused Iraqi prisoners and said he should resign. "I think that Mr. Rumsfeld should step down," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California told reporters. "Mr. Rumsfeld has been engaged in a cover-up from the start on this issue," she said. Sen. Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat, echoed her call. "For the good of our country, the safety of our troops and our image around the globe, Secretary Rumsfeld should resign. If he does not resign forthwith, the president should fire him," he said. Top Republicans in the House dismissed the resignation calls, and most lawmakers said it was too early to fix blame for the abuses. Rumsfeld was to testify on Friday before the Senate Armed Services Committee in an appearance at which some lawmakers said his job could be in the balance. Asked if Rumsfeld should resign, Sen. Edward Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, said: "I think it will be determined on his testimony. We ought to listen to him." "I think the overall issues, obviously, are the issues of accountability and responsibility and the extent of all of this," Kennedy said. "Is this the tip of the iceberg or the whole thing?" A Senate Republican aide said Rumsfeld must "give the performance of his life," and show contrition. "He needs to have full disclosure of the facts, no parsing of words or displaying the usual convoluted testimony that the Senate Armed Services Committee has been accustomed to," the Republican aide said. House Majority leader Tom Delay, a Texas Republican, and several other House Republicans defended Rumsfeld and accused the Democrats of trying to politicize the war. "Calling for Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation is as bad a signal as saying the war in unwinnable," DeLay told reporters. Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stopped just short of calling for Rumsfeld's dismissal on Wednesday. "If it goes all the way to Rumsfeld then he should resign," Biden told NBC's "Today" show. At a news conference Pelosi criticized the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq military campaign and discussed the international furor after photographs emerged last week showing sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners in a jail outside Baghdad.
  16. No matter which vehicle a parent chooses for education, public, private, or home schooling, in the final judgement, they are responsible for that child and that child's education, physical, and moral development. You can think that you are not qualified to teach your child morality and want someone else to do it for you. That is your choice. And what class will you be taking away to make time for this class or would you extend the school day?

Damn government interfering in someone's private life
  18. What I am saying is parents should not just turn over all their childrens upbringing to schools. Parents should not think they do not have to teach their own children because "the schools will do that" or "they will learn that in Church"
  19. How blessed you were to share your life with such an extraordinary cat.
  20. Nonsense, here's a guy who won an argument with a woman
  21. I believe there is a difference between a starter and a closer and the approach they need to take.
  22. There are exeptions. Some guys can do it with smoke and mirrors. But the majority of guys do it with some speed, not 85 mph fast balls. No intimidation factor there at all with a 85 MPH fastball; and itimidation helps relievers to be successful.
  23. Maturity, years of public service, etc. I know I have changed many of my views from when I was 22 years old and a GOP campaigner, election judge, etc.
  24. No, its the heat. To a major league hitter, having all that extra time to see the pitch, will eventually catch up to Zero. Plus remember this is a guy whose best years are behind him. He isn't a 27 year old. If the difference in speed was what really matters then why have all the top strikeout pitchers had a blazing fast ball? And you want strike outs from your closer. Nolan Ryan wasn't known for slow pitch softball and either is Rocket. You want 1-2-3 strikes your out from your closer, not in and out, fast slow, setting the guy up.
