QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 05:24 PM) I just dont think its right for the republicans to pick whatever candidate they want if the votes say otherwise. That's the entire reason for a primary, to help Republicans pick a candidate. By picking a ballot you are now part of that party. By definition you are a Republican when you select that ballot and you voted. Later how your party uses that information in making the selection is a different battle. I think people forget that the primary process is something the political parties developed. It isn't something the framers of the Constitution created. They cold just have a meeting and pick someone. The process is a way to develop interest and hopefully support for the party and the party's nomination. Or in some cases an abomination of a nomination.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) He seems to have a few issues he really cares about I think he cares about getting elected as they all do. I don't think he really cares about any issue enough to take position if he thinks it will lose him more votes than he gains.

I really haven't hated any of them. The most disappointed and frustrated I was with any played was Billy Botch. But his off the field ;performance made him "likable".

Who else supports a candidate is meaningless to me.

My daughter and I went to the Rangers - Royals spring training game in San Antonio's Alamodome. Crazy watching a baseball game played in an arena that is better suited for basketball. The dimensions were 350 down the left field line, 410 to center, 275 down the right field line. San Antonio supported the games. Both games were basically sold out with only scattered single seats available. Over 16,000 tickets were sold (8,000 per game) at $10 - $200 per seat. That seems pretty good for an "out of market" spring training game. There were a lot of Ranger fans of course but the Royals were well represented. I asked their fans a lot of questions ranging from politics, to baseball, to the Sox, in case I needed those comments later.

Who do you believe is MOST guilty in the Laroche situation?

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) I don't see how the kid is deserving of any blame. If Dad told him to stay out of the way per the request, and he was on the mound and not "dialing it back". -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Ventura gave LaRoche his word that he could bring Drake with him all year long. I must have missed this. I keep reading that the front office gave permission. Am I wrong?

There is a chance that the only person on the Sox planet that had a problem with the kid being around all the time was KW and that KW took this entirely on his own to address the issue. But that seems highly unlikely to me. Why go looking for problems? There is no benefit for KW. I am 100% convinced someone in the club house, probably players, complained to Robin. Robin says hey, what can I do, I didn't make the agreement. Robin or some players then take it up the chain. Was it 100% among the players, of course not. But how many players would it take before the situation needs to be addressed? One? Five? 24? Then Kenny figures this is easy, Adam said if there ever was a problem he would address it. Again, from KW's perspective it should have been no big deal. To keep things easy in the clubhouse KW doesn't want to name players or coaches so he keeps it vague. You would think the problem would be solved at this point. Adam lives up to his word, the kid hangs back, it blows over a little bit, and life is good. Instead, the kid doesn't change his behavior. Either Adam didn't tell him to, or he ignored his dad, or as we all know can happen at 14, he "forgot" about the new rules. Then Kenny starts yelling about his kid and Adam reacts like a lot of parents and protects his kid from the criticism. Nobody is suddenly a horrible human beings. No one is suddenly incapable of doing their jobs. But spring training is boring and anything unusual makes for great discussions. So we have one of the longest threads in Soxtalk history. All because of timing, the universal feelings of parents, and the worker versus management dichotomy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) If Robin Ventura can't establish rules in his own locker room then that says worse things about this manager than I would ever have dreamed of writing. A manager would not be a part of the contract negotiations. It would have been better if Robin was consulted before agreeing to allowing the kid in the club house but I haven't read anywhere that Robin was ever consulted prior to the agreement. Once management made the agreement it places Robin in a position where he really can't address the issue. Imagine in your world that a University president offered you a special consideration but later your department chair said it was going to be modified. Wouldn't you immediately go back to the president who originally agreed? The same thing would apply here. Robin tells Adam to "dial it back", Adam goes directly to Hahn or Williams. The person who made the agreement should be the one to address any changes. What puzzles me is by all accounts Drake is a great kid. Yet, he's on the mound as if nothing changed. It sounds like Adam either didn't counsel him about hanging back or the kid ignored the new rules. I still have a hard time imagining a team agreeing to this. What happens when three or four other players want their kids hanging out? If they want to add a day care fine, but move it away from the rest of the employees.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Its a pretty cool place. Its a big party on the lakes, and pretty close to Minocqua which is also a really cool town We also enjoy heading up to Bayfield on Lake Superior a couple hours north. We've explored the Apostle Islands by kayak.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) We used to stay at Elberts Resort on Little St Germain We were there a couple times, but on Little St. Germain it was Island View most of the time. Great beach. The past 15 years or so we're staying at Faths on Big St. They have a bar and restaurant on the premises.

The weekend series between the Rangers and the Royals here in San Antonio is close to a sell out at the Alamodome. I'm interested in just how crappy my $10 seats are.

Gay Cards pitcher quit after teammate said...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Gay's should be killed. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-163704042.html At least there wasn't a big chance he would be bringing his kid around to the games. -
It would be the job of someone away from the team on a daily basis to address the issue with the player. The hope would be that the club house would function better if the blame was on the "front office" and not a teammate to teammate issue. How many people have the option to bring their kids to work every day? At some point the players have to do their damn job and get to work instead of entertaining kids.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Calling it discriminatory and a "pink tax" is ludicrous. But regardless, there shouldn't be an exception to any of that stuff. Tax the piss out of it. We gotta pay for free college and healthcare somehow. I think a fair taxing structure for everyone is not taxing the necessities of life such as food and medicine. I'd also like to see an exemption on cheaper clothes. America is an expensive country to live in. We want the best roads, security, military, healthcare, etc. That requires the people with the most resources to pay more. Now let's look at a fair America that survives at the tax rate that the lowest can afford. Slashes our military, less for roads, less for healthcare (you don't mind sick people in your food supply do you?), fewer cops, less garbage pick up. Looking at countries where it costs less to live and they are not the ones I would like to live in.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Mine as well. Starting shortly after my grandparents were married. I think this is year 17 for me. Same thing. Grandparents, all my aunts, uncles, cousins. At the height we'd have five cottages. Great memories.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Combining a work trip into a long weekend in Boston and coastal Maine in a couple of weeks. Not the best season for it, but it lines up with my wife's spring break. Mainly looking to eat lots and lots of seafood. One of my favorite memories of our last trip to Maine was eating a lobster boil from a gas station / camp store / laundry on a wooden picnic table next to the highway. It had all the charm and elegance of a Chicago dog from a street vendor and damn it was good.

Bryce Harper speaks truth about baseball's unwritten rules

There is a line of sportsmanship that shouldn't be crossed. Baseball has stayed too far away from that line, but I also don't want choreographed homerun celebrations. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) To the attorneys on here ... how is Hillary not in jail over this latest report by the Washington Post? https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/cli...e7df_story.html This is no partisan witch hunt folks. Get used to Bernie time. For Bernie is waiting in the wings if jail comes calling http://www.investors.com/politics/editoria...e-just-blew-up/ p.s. Please read the last part of the article ... It says, "Under the law, gross negligence in handling classified material is all that’s required for a government official to face criminal charges. At this point, is there anyone who can honestly say that Clinton wasn’t being grossly negligent?" I ask you: I know some want Hillary to be president as part of a lifetime achievement award. They want her in there because she it's her turn. But at some point in most baseball seasons when you realize your team is not good enough to win, you finally give up. Why can't America "give up" on Hillary and realize what she did was criminal? If somebody does what she did she must pay. All I ask is she be prosecuted like anybody else in government who does what she did. Because she is well connected and there is a vast conspiracy to have her elected President. Of course it isn't a coincidence that the President is of the same party. Basically the Demon-crates have taken over the world. Feel better?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) To clarify, when I said "San Antonio / McAllen", I certainly meant the team would be in the former, not the latter. Just citing an influence area for illustration. Just like Albuquerque clearly is where a team would be, not Santa Fe. I thought he meant locating the stadium somewhere on the southside, perhaps even down 37 towards Corpus or 35 towards Laredo.

WAC ~ Chicago State, NM State, UT-RGV
Texsox replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It's an interesting conference. Looking at the history I realize that some conferences are actually independent from their teams in a way. UT-RGV has formed an exploratory committee headed up by Mack Brown (former UT head coach) to see if football will be a fit. That would cause the university to leave the WAC. -
