QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) This is ludicrous. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0310-story.html I assume the argument is they are health items and should be exempt. Sales tax and food and medical items is crazy.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) South San Antonio makes no sense. Austin is 80 miles from San Antonio, so a team is better off building on the TX130 between Austin and San Antonio or I-35 between Austin and San Antonio. The Rio Grande Valley and Mexico tourists make San Antonio attractive. TX130 makes sense but is away from everything. I-35 is crazy with traffic, but probably a better bet. I think I-35 between the two but closer to SA makes more sense. Every few years the Cowboys threaten to relocate their training camp. Perhaps the stadium could serve double or triple duty.

We have a busy summer planned. We will be working from a remote mountain house in June cataloging a writer's unpublished works for possible publications. Later in the month we will be flying to the Pacific northwest for some hiking and camping. Later in the summer we're heading to Chicago and then St. Germain Wisconsin for a couple weeks. I'm also trying to fit in a golf coach's camp.

The tale if a smallish conference and their autobid. Their dream is to get whacked in the first round.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) But I thought college sports were about the student athletes, not the money? Without the money there are no student athletes.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 09:16 PM) They're part of the fun of March though. We could just eliminate automatic conference bids all together and just let a committee decide the top 64 teams if we want to go that route or just get rid of the one and done tournament and make it a series of games. I was surprised how my attitude changed when my university UT-RGV went from independent to the Western Athletic Conference with an auto bid. I didn't think getting in a conference would really change anything for me. I still enjoyed going to the games, who cares if it was a conference or non conference game? Now I actually pay attention to more games. The women's team has been strong and could gain a spot this season. Something just a little extra to cheer for. In the major conferences it really doesn't matter. The top four or five teams get in.

June will be two weeks in a remote New Mexico mountain cabin cataloging and possibly editing a deceased author's unpublished works. Late June possible to the Fourth of July ten days in the Pacific northwest hiking and camping. End of July a week in St. Germain, Wisconsin and Chicago with the family. I will try to fit in at least one golf coaches camp. Summers make up for the school year.

What job can you have and be allowed an opinion?

One of the vastly overrated skills of a great president is cheerleader in chief. After Nixon's scandals, Ford's falling and WIN! economic policy, and Carter being held hostage Reagan came in bigger than life on a giant white horse and gave America back it's swagger. Trump can do that, but only for the portion of America that has been feeling left out for 8 years of Obama. HIllary doesn't do that. I doubt even Cruz can pull that off. We all know that most of what a Presidential candidate runs on doesn't or can't become reality. So I'm not too worried about America if there is a Trump victory.

Our home course has kicked out Taylor Made and bringing in Callaway. Our previous home course was a Titleist shop. We've been a Titleist team for the past years. I'm considering the switch to Callaway. This season my varsity played ProV1 or ProV1x while the JV and Fresh-Soph played DT Solo. Clothing I switched to Nike from Antigua, but the UA rep has a nice package for me so I may switch one more time. My budget has been stretched thin by travelling more for tournaments so I've been shopping harder.

We're getting close to our end of the season championships. My #1 is on the sidelines trying to become academically eligible. My #3 is worried about college and working and has missed about half the practices this past month. I have no depth so we just went from near the top to trying to stay out of the bottom. Hey, Robin, I know your pain. Meanwhile, one kid lowered his average from 113 last year to 97 this year. As soon as we crank up his short game I figure he will drop another 10-15 for next season. Plus he's smart as can be with great parental support. Already I'm thinking about next year . . . I'm starting to hit a few more balls myself getting ready for the coach gets to play season. I shot seven over for 9 holes last week from the tips (3700 yards). The bright spot was six pars. The two doubles and a triple were problems, but that smoothes out after I play more.

His comment was started shortly after the first free agent arrived at his first spring training a few decades back and gets repeated every year. Blah blah blah glad to be here, blah blah love the team blah blah love the fans, blah blah would love to stay here long term . . .

Empirical evidence that the Sox will be good this year

Official 2016 Soxtalk White Sox win total prediction thread
Texsox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
88 wins and the team is in the race until the final week. The key will be the first month of the season. They need a fast start. After the Orioles series they need to be 15-9 possible 14-10. If this season starts iff crappy, I just don't see it turning around. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) Senator Holds Up Aid For Flint Because Residents ‘Have All The Government Resources They Need’ Sen. Mike Lee lobbied for relief funds for Utah when flooding hit his state, and he's personally had hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt forgiven by a bank after a short sale. In theory I like the idea of local funds with local control for local problems. ALso in theory I reject if we did it for X we have to do it for Y. That leads to out of control government funding. Each case needs to be decided on it's own merits. And there will always be these types of connections.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) Always a fun discussion. I think MLB can expand by two more, and I also agree that TB and OAK probably need to move. My list of cities in order of likely success with a team... Charlotte (would need a fully new park, current one is boxed in) San Antonio / McAllen (much better choice than Austin in my view, for this purpose) Portland Las Vegas Albuquerque / Santa Fe Nashville (same as Charlotte) Salt Lake City Montreal (I just don't know that they'd draw in the long run) San Juan, PR Vancouver (way too close to Seattle) Just my .02. Looking at money in towns, scope of fan base, climate, demographics (specifically think getting to places with larger Hispanic populations would be a good idea). Good insight linking McAllen (200 miles away), you also have to look at Laredo and all of northern Mexico. I'd like to know how many fans from Mexico San Diego pulls in. San Antonio does a terrific job supporting the Spurs (hard not to) and the other pro teams that are around. The Rangers are playing a couple games here in a few weeks. Obviously they would need a dome. San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the US. I'd have season tickets from the start. Unfortunately it seems like it would be a NL franchise.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 12:01 AM) It's generally known prisoners want to take out scumbags who kill innocent people. Think of how many women he killed, maybe children too. Prisoners want those guys. Didn't Gacy get killed in jail? Or beaten? Dahmer got killed in jail I believe. There are a lot of murders in jail. The murder rate of them doesn't seem to be too high.

QUOTE (SnB @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) Anyone have a recommendation for a golf simulator place? The prices seem higher than I was anticipating and if I go, I want it to be a good one. The itch is becoming unbearable, haven't picked up a club in a few months. I know it's late, but Top Golf. Heated bays, but hitting full distances.
