I am 6.75 but with the consolidation they will drop .5
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) He didn't need an interview. He already had an offer. He wasn't going on TV with all this hanging in limbo. There are other programs and other opportunities. Those TV appearances set coaches up. Makes them known to the boosters and general public.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Shaka has agreed to do studio work for the tournament this weekend, starting tomorrow. This means 2 things IMO: 1) He'll have a decision made by today 2) He's not coming here I don't think he'd go on TV with this hanging and make that the storyline. I also fail to see how he'd accept a job and then be in the studio for the weekend. I think this just comes down to the fact he doesn't want to leave his little place in Richmond. It's not about the money, as we've reportedly offered enough. It's a much better job, all things considered, he just doesn't want the change. I know the perception will be Illinois is down because they didn't get him, but if we made a great offer and he wants to stay, that's on him. Minus maybe 4 programs (and even that's a maybe), Smart wouldn't leave his current position. I don't think it's Illinois in particular. IMO it's a dumb long term career move, but he's going to do what he wants depending on what makes him happy. If this is the case, time to move on, lot of good candidates and interest in the job. TV is best possible interview for any and all possible openings. He exposes himself to the major donors and ADs.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) Moneyball is 25 cents on the Amazon Kindle Store right now. I ran the price through my stats program and it is still statistically improbable I will read that book

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) I finished the King book on the plane ride home yesterday. Wow. Just amazing. So well written. I will swap you The Accountant's Story for the King book, interested?

    2012 Book Thread

I finished The Accountant's Story which was co-written by Roberto Escobar, brother of noted cocaine distributor, humanitarian, and community benefactor Pable Escobar. I was a little disappointed. I was hoping for more details on the business side of Escobar's operation. I was intrigued by the huge amounts of cash and how you deal with being an outlaw billionaire. Instead it is more of a retelling of the Escobar story from a more sympathetic voice. It is 274 pages and I finished it in a few hours. The story jumps around a bit and I needed to slow down in some areas to understand some of the twists.
  7. How many people are employed whose job it is to provide transcripts? It is easier to prove citizenship than what grade I received for English 1401 in 1979.
  8. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) I'm not gaming the system. I'm operating squarely within its s***ty rules which unfortunately deprive me of voting today for the person I deem best qualified for each office, regardless of party. Furthermore, that "system" entitles all eligible individuals the freedom to cast their vote in secret for whomever they choose, and for any reason. Its really just the closed primary concept that's warped. I live in DuPage, where the Republican primary is tantamount to the general election for virtually every local office, so for my vote to really matter on local issues, I usually take a Republican ballot in most primaries. Personally, I think I'd much prefer a President Romney over a President Santorum, but I'm really no fan of either one. I'd rather see a protacted battle and an eventual floor fight, so that's how I'm voting on that particular race. I've admitted to that being hypocritcal, but I dispute that's its "gaming," which I consider more akin to cheating. Besides, even if broken, it's the best system anyone has come up with so far. I feel the same way. I know when I am voting here on the border that 90% of my precint will vote for the Dem candidate. If it is a statewide election, that the state will go for Kap's GOP candidate.
  9. The official response I received was they needed to verify that all my credits were entered correctly. Which basically annoyed me that all this extra effort would have to be done by people at several Universities. What I am now believing is it is just easier to have the same requirements for all students no matter where they received their undergrad.
  10. Have any of the multi-level marketing electricity suppliers entered the Illinois market? Down here I use Green Mountain 100% renewable to power the Exxon Valdez of coffee makers, my Keurig
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) You said credits are listed on your transcript from B, but what about the grades? Are those listed? Yes. Everything. They received an official transcipt when I applied for undergrad admission.
  12. So I am applying to grad school, for my undergrad I attended two schools. I graduated from B, I am applying at B, why, after awarding me a degree, would B need to see my trannscript from A? The credits are listed on my official transcript from B already
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Tex did you not read his original post? That was the oversimplification. Grabbed the wrong quote. Sorry.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Do we elect individuals or parties? We elect an individual from a party 99.99% of the time. There are very few independents around.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Yes, the only thing you look at when considering a job is location. Good call. If that were the case, NW would have had legendary coaches by now and not made the tournament 0 times. That seems like an oversimplification. Location should be somewhere on the list and it will probably be different for different people.
  16. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) I actually do, if the candidate didn't qualify to be on the ballot, which it was ruled that he didn't - the party he ran with shouldn't benefit from the fraud. I understand your point and it is a strong one, but that would only be the case when the person selecting the replacement was from the other party. I believe the replacement should be as close to the voter's wishes as possible. Allowing political parties to use this as punishment and reward should be secondary. If the voters wish to later punish that party that is there choice.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 06:53 AM) As I've said before, if there's one thing I can't stand on message boards, it's terrible/unoriginal nicknames. Both. Sorry man. My original idea was for Texsox to sound like Texas kindof. and yeah, both suck
  18. Would you agree it is probably more of a factor for the Cubs than the Sox?

    Student Loans

I just received the notice I was eligible to consolidate my student loans. It seems like an easy decision to go with the consolidation.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) How many people out there wait for the advertising campaign to buy tickets? The same number that buy toothpaste, beer, cars, shoes, etc from a great advertising campaign. It's the casual fan, the once or twice a season fan the advertising works on, not us. Why else would teams spend money on advertising?
  21. I would love a nice floor fight at the convention. That that would be the a great lesson and theater.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 03:44 AM) I would be at USAA in a second if I could qualify. Their product line is amazeballs. I only qualify for a sliver of their products, after the wedding I'll have more. Damn their customer service is amazing.
  23. Going to USAA has been awesome, leaving my bank has been a nightmare. After two months and multiple and contradictory statements by their employees, I believe I know what happened. On 1/27 I go to my branch to close the account. I am told there was one more item to clear and the account would be closed on the following Monday and if no transactions appear for one day the account would be closed and anything presented would be kicked back. A couple weeks later I received a statement that I owed $125 or so in fees. Since the account was now opened, additional charges could come through, and they did. A once every two years bill for a web site, an annual magazine subscription, more over draft fees, account minimum balance fees, etc. Via the 1-800 customer service line I was told the account has to stay at a $0 balance for 14 - 30 days before it is forever closed. In person they told me one day. Then we looked for the item that presented itself on that one day, a check for $15. A motherf***ing check. I said, no way I have not written a check in months. I hadn't. It was a check to my attorney I wrote on 10/11/11 for some court fees and some other work he did for me. I gave him the check at a Scouting function, I can only assume he just now found it in his wallet and deposited it. So they want $429 in fees. We're negotiating. I hate banks
