  1. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) There is a segment of the gay population that does in fact support this concept. I may or may not be one of them. There is a segment of the straight population that does in fact support this concept. I may or may not be one of them. I tend to prefer it to what we have today in most states.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) I don't see how bond can be set for someone who so obviously is a danger to society. Innocent until proven guilty. Bail is designed to be certain the person sticks around for trial. It isn't a fine for the severity of the crime. I can't believe he will have access to any kids after his picture has been plastered all over.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) stop oversimplifying things to make an argument that nobody is making Really, no one said Paterno is to blame for Sandusky not being stopped in 2002?!
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) And it's by far the most strict of a Hall of Fames of the major sports. The LPGA says yo!
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) 1) How exactly does society benefit from two people being married instead of single? 2) With the divorce rate what it is, if there really is a societal benefit to being married, the tax breaks don't seem to be enough of an incentive. Married workers tend to take less sick days, invest more, own homes, have higher incomes, are more involved in their communities, commit less crimes, to name just a few. Agreed
  6. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) i mean that's what i figured, but i'm curious where he stands on the new ad... hard to defend. The ad is consistent with his record and reflects a POV that sadly, too many Americans share. But I will never find a candidate that I agree 100% with. I'm more worried about immigrants with no political voice than the gay community that will kick his ass and any anti-gay legistlation will die because Congress will never support it. I still find Perry the least of the evils. Hell, I don't support the entire DEM platform and I know most of the REPs here do not support that party's platform 100%.
  7. I really believe it should be a celebration of what makes baseball great, not just what players did. There should be something that shows the value the person had to baseball as a game, not just what they did. That usually means integrity, it's about being a ambassador for the game. Guys like Rose and Sosa hurt baseball, guys like Baines and Buehrle improved the game. In other words it should be not only the stats they produced but the intangibles as well. Don't s*** on the game and expect to be enshrined. I would prefer future generations to see the best in everything, including character.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) I don't see what that statement has to do with what I said. We have a large number of taxes that are based, partially, or even wholly, on encouraging positive behavior and discouraging negative behavior. "Sin" taxes are the most obvious. The tax on alcohol, tobacco, firearms, in some locals "lux" items are far higher than on necessities. Society benefits from marriages, thus we encourage that behavior through our tax code.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) I'm all for eliminating any and all tax/financial benefits that are attached to marriage and increase the tax/financial benefits that go to people with dependents. I don't care how long you have been with your man/woman, if you don't have kids together, you don't deserve a dime more in benefits than single people. What kind of benefits are you talking about? Do you want to raise the tax rate on married couples without kids? I'm not certain why you want to encourage population growth and for couples to have children earlier in their marriage. As SS said, kids are usually better off in a two parent household. Delaying having kids for a few years to have a better idea if the marriage will work seems like something we should encourage, rather than discourage.
  10. I just don't see how they will turn a profit during this contract.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) Even in green that is 100% wrong. better this way? Paterno is as responsible as Sandusky's wife
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) I can't tell if this is supposed to be sarcastic. If it isn't, then I don't get it. The theory that I have read is along this line: gays are saying, if we can't marry, then no one can marry. Eliminate the institute of marriage. Just trying to add some clarity.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) You know, hearing that both Fine AND Sanduskys wives knew what was going on is so sickening and both of them should be tried for aiding and abetting. I know thats probably a wrong charge and im probably saying the wrong thing, but goddamnit kids lives were ruined and these women just turned their heads and kept on living their lives like nothing was wrong No. It's the head coachs' fault.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) There are hundreds. Of course we can agree to disagree at this point. Part of being a hypocrite would be that Mark would turn down the opportunity to do what he has always said he wanted to do. Since there are no offers from the one team he wanted to stay with and none from teams near his hometown, he is stuck negotiating with teams that actually want him and appreciate him. That not hypocrisy, thats called job hunting. It didn't take long to find someone I agree with.
  15. If I were a betting man, I would say Sandusky will be dead within a year from his own hands.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) And allow me to clarify. I won't be angry when he signs elsewhere (unless it's the Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs, which is true for any player). But he WILL be a hypocrite. Not even close. Ever walk into a store epecting to buy one thing and come out with something different? He didn't have all the facts before. Easy to understand priorities changing.
  17. When was the last time Mark spoke with other teams about playing there? So he gets out away from Chicago, starts hearing what is available and makes a new decision based on this new knowledge. Happens all the time with people.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) I see the inevitable has begun. A hearsay-hearsay rumor published by a guy we all know to hate KW, says supposedly a guy told a guy that the Sox won't match an offer. This was taken as bible (when it probably isn't even true), and then we've somehow also preternaturally seen that Mark will sign for the most money with some distant team. And that in turn has become, he's obviously an asshole who only cares about money. Seriously, some of you guys are like paranoid girlfriends. Maybe we should... I don't know... wait to see what actually happens? Instead of going down this road based on friggin Cowley's double-hearsay rumor?
