  1. Instead of picking about trying to break a tie, think about how many rookies there have been and how amazing those seasons are.
  2. He's Dennis Rodman. You hate him unless he's on your team, and even thwen you might not like him. He would be better liked if he had a posse, drank more, and perhaps shot someone.
  3. I am not certain if it is technology has gotten more fool proof or changes faster, but it seems as soon as I master fixing one problem, it stops being a problem and something new takes its place. An example is when my home network needed a little tweaking. It had been working fine for three years. They changed everything in those three years. I haven't built a pc in ten years, I am helping my son, and probably have less of a clue than he does. I'm reduced to that sad little confirmation that gives him the confidence to go ahead. Something as simple as thermal grease on the CPU's heatsink. Now it is preapplied at the factory. And why haven't they standardized front panel connections to MOBOs yet?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) I still can not figure out how the hell he communicates, or rather, how a sensor that detects his cheek muscles could possibly figure out what he is trying to say. As I understand it, it is actually predictive text, he is clicking letters until the correct ones pop up. In a TED Talk it took him 7.5 minutes to complete an answer live. Still cool, but less amazing to me.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) Wanting to do some fairly low impact reading over the holidays I got around to reading the Hunger Games trilogy. Very enjoyable. I am teaching the first book in the series. My 8th graders really seem to enjoy it. They are finally understanding the parallels to reality TV shows.

I read Cold Wind this past week while huddled in a very cold tent in Big Bend. I won't spoil it for you, but the ending exceeded my expectations. Not what I was expecting but better. My gf was reading Free Fire which is the only other one of his I have read. Which btw got me hooked. I was looking for a book set in Yellowstone, because I will be visiting there this summer.
  7. An early birthday wish to one of the most interesting figures of the 20th Century.

His writing matched the setting better than any book I can remember reading. I did struggle to sleep last night. Weird dreams and waking up disoriented. It was simultaneously a very easy read and a difficult one. Lots of layers. I am planning on reading No Country for Old Men after Lonesome Dove. I am also filling in some books I should have read, but somehow avoided. Lord of the Flies is in the que as well. I kind of took a break from any real literature and read a couple C.J. Box books (very good vacation reads) and a couple Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt books.
  9. Does anyone believe it is possible to not be perceived as hypocritical on anything? People push this to extremes. Unless you support something to the extremist level, someone will brand you as a hypocrite. Someone doesn't think that the animal shelter should euthanize dogs and cats? Well you better have 25 dogs and a hundred cats if you are that concerned or else you look like a hypocrite.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) Or a dedicated home a/v store, but it'd be a pretty dick move to use them for their expertise and then buy elsewhere. It does give the store a chance. If you never walk in, they have zero chance. To be fair, I think you should be smart about it. Pick a slower time. But most store owners I know, while frustrated by customers walking out without buying anything, are far more frustrated when customers never come in. They recognize there are other purchases that the customer may make later that they would have also lost out on if the customer never stopped in.

This one usually dies a quick death, but why not try? I just finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road and it was every bit as good as the reviews. The writing fit so tight with the mood and tone of the piece. I finished it in a couple evenings and seriously had trouble sleeping last night. I have not seen the movie, and probably will resist renting it. My son presented it to me this Christmas, I hope he isn't hoping I die.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) http://www.wpix.com/news/wpix-christie-dea...0,3094381.story Here is Coppola the guy who wrote the threat. I guess there is no diversity in New Jersey. http://www.bcea-njea.org/bcea_officers.html
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) So the head of the Jersey Teachers union sending an email to all the members asking them to pray for a Christie heart attack are not the same? It isn't just some offhand remark, its how they feel. And when they get called on it, they get all mealy mouthed about it saying 'that's not what I meant' or that it was somehow taken out of context, or the always awesome "i'm sorry if you were offended". /faints Alpha attacks conservatives? I assume that if it is school and prayer it must be a conservative group since liberals are the godless ones who took prayer out of school.
  14. I have more faith in Dunn returning to near his opast glory than Soriano. But, yeah, I'd condsider it. But it's like buying a quick pick lotto ticket.
  15. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) I just find it funny that groups committed to "protecting life" would pray for death. We need a new word to describe groups that small. Currently a group could be the entire membership of the NRA or five wackjobs with a web site. It just seems to give them more credibility than they deserve. Micro-group perhaps?
  16. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) Christians for a Moral America endorsed Rick Santorum because he's committed to "protecting life." Last month, they were taking a break from endorsing Christianist candidates to urge their supporters to pray for the death of singer George Michael who had pneumonia at the time. http://global.christianpost.com/news/radic...l-to-die-63489/ How many people do you think that group represents?
  17. To save yourself some headaches later, post all your passwords here so we can help you I am glad you got everything working.
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Wow, I didn't even notice. I thought it was just spelling errors. You can be such a moron oops I meant mormon
  19. I believe I am understanding you. Thank you.
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) bravo. very nicely done here. Thank you, It would be A Dream Come True if they would Listen but I doubt they will be the Light at the end of the World.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I don't think they are that desperate yet. Their navy, what there is of it, would be crushed in short order. Then what? Not a good end for them or anyone else. I think it is much more likely we will see internal changes in Iran. Which is the whole point of the sanctions. Agreed. I have never understood why, but these countries always seem to try to accomplish the insane. So while we sit here and think, they would be crazy to do . . . they try smh
  22. We'll sea how gull-able the world is with Iran and who may flock to buy their oil.
  23. There we go. Perfect. Here is what I'm intrigued by. I am assuming that liquid rock flows and has about the same characteristics as any other liquid, chiefly it seeks it's own level. If that is true the molten rock would have been later uplifted to that shape. How would a liquid follow that contour?
  24. Thank you, that makes sense. Once I learned that it is erosion, not some eruption or uplifting that creates features like below, a lot of the geology started making sense.
  25. You would always be heading north-south but always up and down. You would always be climbing or descending. They seem to match the terrain. Also, as I have been thinking about it, could it be that they would be located along laccoliths which would account for the rise and fall in elevation? The laccoliths are all dome shaped.
