  1. We won't know. But how inspirational is it that we hired a guy who was working in a pretty dysfunctional organization? It certainly would be easier to be positive if we hired someone who was from a functional organization.
  2. I fully agree. The difference is I'm skeptical right now. We both want Getz to surround himself with good people who will help him. I'm thinking he was that guy that was supposed to help. Here's the other paradox. If we accept he isn't responsible because he didn't do anything. Then we hired a guy who didn't do anything in his previous position. Hardly inspirational. Or, he did do something and that frankly wasn't very good.
  3. ----------------+-------+---+-------------+----------+---------- I'll agree there are some positive in the last two years. I'll even agree for our long term mental health we should probably acknowledge them. But it's impossible to ignore what a huge disappointment the past two seasons have been. Whether by team choice (possibly) or career preservation (more likely in my mind) rising stars in good organizations aren't filling these open positions. Yes, we're getting what we asked in people leaving but we also wanted above average replacements. We're asked as a fan base to believe these new folks are capable of delivering a winning product. Like most everyone here I'm skeptical they have the skills to do that while also really hoping to be proven wrong. Words just aren't enough anymore to get me excited and positive, the team has to show me. That won't happen for months.

Probably only @caulfield12will really notice but cool teacher day. When I teach Shakespeare we always discuss how you will find plots to his plays in every movie. I talk about watching Hotel Transylvania when reading Romeo and Juliet. Today was an easy day before the holiday weekend and we read Sonnet 3 by Shakespeare. Which by the way is not one of his greatest hits. The plan is I then play Dream On by Aerosmith, we chat a while about the similarities, and then I play classic rock for the rest of class. As I was starting a mix one kid requested Tom Sawyer. I'm thinking great idea. Cranked it to 11, jammed a bit, but before I could move on to Baba O'Reilly the kid starts a discussion about the lyrics. Coolest ten minutes listening to him. By the time he finished everyone wanted to hear it again and were pulling up lyrics on their phones.

Years ago ss2k5 banned me from posting my current conditions on winter weather threads. It will be very cold here next week. Hard freeze for several hours. Preparation is much different. I have lots of landscaping that needs covering, faucets protected from freeze, containers flipped over, etc. Hopefully the roads are dry and clear for y'all before you have to go back to work.
  6. I added a calendar note to check eBay for the Hawaiian shirt. Lol. It's been a long winter and they are sucking me back in.
  7. 7/13 get your tickets, get your vest
  8. Damnit. I will just miss being in town for Hawaiian shirt night.
  9. I kind of miss the days when I wouldn't have noticed it cared. Sometime around spring training I'd look at who was in camp. New marketing slogan, free for the team to use Ignorance is bliss.
  10. I really like him so I hope they trade him to a contender.
  11. OK. They were usually 25th in spending from what I saw.
  12. I'm looking at their resume's. We don't know what they could have done if that spending was a few years ago.
  13. I agree with all the negatives about bringing in all these KC folks. Here's the only potential way I see this working out for us, (and I don't believe it will actually happen.) These guys are actually really good at their jobs but couldn't win because of payroll limits. They actually spend less than we do. We've at least have had recent years in the top ten payrolls. Again, I'm clutching at straws and scraping the bottom of the barrel to try to find anything positive.
  14. Or they are and the current owners are bailing early.
  15. ^ TL/DR ^ f*** JR, RH and TLR.
  16. How many different ways can we be told this franchise sucks 95% of the time?
  17. We hardly knew you. Bye
  18. I'm surprised that my football playing, can't stop thinking about football, students believe Fields will be great and the Bears should trade the pick, move down, and get him a receiver or add to the O-Line.
  19. Thank y'all. My students were discussing the draft and I plagiarized y'all and picked up some football cred with them.
  20. Agreed. I wonder if they could have done that without giving up a Giolito, Lynn, or other MLB roster spot and creating another hole. Either because of payroll or needing to trade.
  21. If the Charlotte Knights were my main team I'd be so stoked for the season to begin. Then crushed to discover those guys are heading north.
  22. It is a different approach. I feel like we swapped a little quality for quantity. In hindsight that would have been better the last few years. But like you, it is a bit confusing in my mind if it's the way to win a playoff series.
  23. I agree that based on quality and lack of balance it should have been rejected.
  24. I heard from a D1 college assistant coach (credibility??) that he expects it to be written into some contracts. So basically you have the local car dealer deciding if your running back is going to play in the bowl or not. Colleges fucked up by not paying players themselves, now they will have to live with the mess.
