  1. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Oh maybe cut some dead weight from the state payroll, and have some pension reform with gov't employees. 1. Increase workers contributions to their pension plans. 2. Decrease workers benefits from their pension plans. 3. Increase (if they pay any) premiums for health insurance. 4. Increase state income taxes. I am certain that you would do this voluntarily for your company? Or perhaps take that super comfy government job? People keep wanting the greatest service from their government and pay bottom barrel prices.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) I forgot its our patriotic duty so you can redistribute the wealth. Gotcha. How about this, spend less. Stop overcommiting your budget and then you won't have to increase taxes. Yes, they take your taxes and redistribute it to cops, and teachers, and highway workers, firefighters, and etc. etc. etc. Everyone wants to live in a first class country but pay third world tax rates.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I can't argue with your point here, but the way the church put this basically made it sound like they were poo pooing the rape and saying how awful the abortion was. That sounds like nothing more than making the case political and using it as a platform for your own beliefs, and that's not something the Catholic Church should be doing. The Church must stand up for what it believes in, that is the entire point of a Church. It's the only way to root out the individuals that need to be gotten gone.
  4. My almost foolproof method of picking a major. Get out the catalog and list every course that seems interesting to you. See what department most of the classes are in. Done
  5. Awesome. About time. Imagine the fun catching a cab and asking to go to he Willis Tower . . .
  6. The exception for rape victims is a compelling case, but it somehow then places a lower value on the life based on how or why the person was conceived. And that doesn't seem right either. I disagree with their decision. The same reason that the rapist is allowed to stay, is why the mom and doctor should be allowed to stay in the Church.
  7. I set the thread to auto-close on September 1st, when their season is over . . .

shoot yourself from the boredom? Curse the fates that caused you to be there? TV?
  9. The sports station and the news here all are reporting the 9 mil number. The team has shown a willingness to drop some folding money in search of past glory, so 9 mil would not be out of the question. A Super Bowl is worth many times that.
  10. Locally I heard it was a bigger cap hit.

Its all about share of mind and branding. The part I do not like when we add a top level domain is the multiple address confusion it creates. Some brands will have to buy up that one, and it will have zero to do with the environment. But just like some copanies buy .com .org and .net, this may be another situation where they need it to block. The positive would be if those corps used it to highlight their environmental policies and results.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) My new Sony Bravia was working just fine. I now have a vertical green line on the right side near the edge. Any idea how to fix this? soft cloth and water > Ghostbusters
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) Speak for yourself. I believe I did.
  14. No one older than me should be tweeting . . .
  15. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Getting rid of all no-bid contracting will not save any money. Anyone who has been involved in government contract work can attest to that. I know no-bids get a bad rap because of the Iraq thing, but the fact is there are situations where bids are not necessary, only because certain specialized projects have only a few firms that are qualified to provide the service. We talk about how government needs to be more like private industry then force them into not being more like private industry.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) If anyone will fight that battle and win, its Ozzie. I wish I shared your confidence.
  17. How many are Boras clients?
  18. Great question. Vegas came to mind, as did the Texas Lottery Show where they hand me a big oversized check. But probably Seinfeld or Frasier.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) oh PLEASE 9/11 was likely the worst tragedy that has ever happened to America by an outside source, considering all civilians. BUT, it was not war. We did not have an invading army in the country fighting a war against us, we did not have a rebellion uprising, we were not even in a military battle against another country.. There were no troop movements to report or any precedent that SCOTUS has historically provided for when suspending the 1st amendment is allowed. The media even tacitly complied with not being to critical of the government in self-censorship. It seems rather HUGE to me, to lose everything the country fought for because of a huge power opportunity came into play for our central government, when no mobile consistent threat was among us. If Japan entered our shores in WWII, I could see complete pre-censorship of media being reasonable, but as it is, a terrorist attack is not a reason to throw out our constitution, the mere allusion that it could seems absolutely, absolutely absurd. And it was not used. But to say in each and every case it should not be used, seems silly on the scale that we play. It seems that the administration did some advance planning and asked, what are the limits to our response. Later they probably determined what were the appropriate limits, and reached the same conclusion you just did. But I can not rip them for taking step one, which was to know exactly what resources they have available.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) The point is that those shouldn't even be options. Ask Japan about what should, and should not be, options. In a world where in one moment we could kill hundreds of thousands of humans, and destroy ecosystems for hundreds of years, losing our right to Rush Limbaugh and the New York Times, seems rather small.
  21. I just don't understand why Congress doesn't read a story like this and think "we have to make pot legal" . . .
  22. I believe it is perfectly reasonable at that point in time for the President to know what were *ALL* of his options. That's what I see in ths, and I honestly am not too worked up over it.
  23. Wow, I needed a reason to get out of bed today. And my favorite math joke There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that get binary, and those that don't.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Why? I sent you a PM, but basically I need to have somethingtaken care of while I have better-than-average insurance.
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Why not both? Because we do not have the resources to use drug agents to try and stop illegals. They would be majoring in the minors and minoring in the majors. Two different methods, two different problems, two different sets of resources.
