QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Ok, then people shouldn't sue for getting the CARE because they didn't like the look of the doctor that day and people could then maybe afford it. There is a whole lotta truth in that. Almost everyone agrees, until it happens to them. Then it is why shouldn't I get mine?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) From the sounds of it, people in the DR view baseball the same way we view college. It is the one big necesity to move up out of the barrio. What I'm wondering is this; Is all the attention because they treat the Scouts like royalty and line their pockets? Seems like Scouts are mining for gold in more than one way, and if this gets cleaned up, we may just see a more normal distribution. Remember, the edge is these players are not under the restrictions of the amateur draft, baseball could clean this up with one rule change. -

How does one country produce so much talent? Or does it? -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Health insurance is not a "right"... but that's yet another argument entirely. And neither is electricity, really. I believe electricity depends on the situation. Clearly unplugging someone from a ventilator is far different than unplugging someone's radio. Where this particular situation falls along that line we each have a different idea. With the weather the way it was, and this person's age, I believe it is closer to a life support issue than a convenience issue. I am sympathetic to the argument that we cannot give free electricity to everyone, but there has to be a way to not place the electric company as judge and executioner.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) I don't believe they can really deny anyone treatment. If you walk into an ER, you're going to see a doctor (eventually), regardless of your ability to pay. Actually it becomes more complex than that. They can refuse certain types of non-emergency treatment. I see where Rock is going with his comments. I take a more philosophical approach to reach the same conclusion. We are the wealthiest country on the planet. We are willing to spend billions and billions of dollars to help the citizens of Iraq. We fly flags and yell support our Troops. Then, after they return, work 30-40 years as productive members of society, some say, tough s*** you died, you should have paid your electric bill. That is just hard for me to swallow. I agree with SS, we can't give free electricity, but an in between step of educating the homeowner seems doable. And remember, to be fair, they did not cut off electricity. They limited the use. I do not know if it was enough to warm the house, but I'd be cool if all he could run was the furnace and the stove.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) There is top notch health care in the United States. But it's insanely expensive. It's completely unaffordable to a lot of people. It does very well for the extremes, and is tough on the middle. We also do very well with public health. Our overall ability to stop the spread of disease is amazing. We have excellent sanitation. But if you are a middle class person without insurance, you lose twice. Too "rich" for any government assistance; too poor to afford what Doctors charge. Oven with insurance, the co-pays and deductibles are brutal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) And taken to the extreme the other way, no one would have any power because no one would have to pay their bills, because the power company couldn't turn off power to those who don't pay. How about a happy medium? When someone is freezing to death, I would assume that we all would agree calling a paramedic would be a good idea. I doubt that anyone would ask, hey why are you freezing to death, and then decide what help they should offer. We try and get the person to a warming shelter. What aid would you render to prevent someone from dying? How about stopping the chain of events a couple steps back? The power could still be shut off, after it was determined that there is no threat of loss of life. That doesn't seem like an extreme to me.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) These articles are still weird to me. Ive known Tyler forever. So, when you going to invite him to post here? We've had a few players post here, but usually by AAA they get too busy to keep posting.

Will the AL Central survive the next 10 years?
Texsox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With less than an hours drive from Austin, via a good freeway, the team could be situated in North San Antonio. Also, San Antonio is a reasonable drive from the border, and many Mexican-nationals use San Antonio as a base for tourism. There is plenty of land still available along the expressway. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 01:00 AM) I'm assuming this is a college paper, if so, doesn't your library have an online research database? You can probably narrow it down from there. The librarian is your friend. Find the reference section, fall at their feet, and they will open worlds to you that you never knew existed. Writing papers becomes easy with their help. And pick the side where the find the best resources, your opinion just does not matter.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) DID the NAACP b**** and moan when Condi Rice was called a house n***a in an editorial? Double standard? Eat s*** and swallow you hypocritical as****es. Black Conservative=O.K to make fun Black Liberal= Don't you dare say anything, you racists. No difference in how one treats the President? That was the difference as I saw it. I guess I never really thought about the liberal and conservative difference.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) If there was an error, are you going to start calling the bank people "murderers?" No. The problem is the limiters and the very poor execution of installing and making certain the people know how they work. The other problem is people who do not mind living in a country where people just freeze to death in their homes. There are many third world countries where that is a reality. I guess we could devolve into that kind of nation, with a disregard for human life.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Finally figured it out. I had to open MSConfig and shut off a new file that was dled with a windows update. After that it works fine now. Glad you fixed the gremlin. I really dislike chasing those down. I have an update in Firefox that will not install and just click past it rather than start diagnosing the problem.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) How about this: Crede's back won't let him match numbers he had in 2005 or 2006? Or, Crede's new "home" is a place that doesn't suit his hitting style nor has he had much success there? I am not a medical Doctor, so I cannot make claims about his back. We'll see. It doesn't suit his hitting style. The important question is thus, are the Sox better or worse off at 3B? Someone show me the statistical proof that 3B will be better.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) damn, I didnt realize how many of Crede's relatives posted on this site. While healthy, and admittedly that was a weakness, 3B was not a weakness for the club like it was for most of the time between Robin and Joe. Why so many Sox fans are eager to return to that time is beyond me. If you believe that makes me (us) fan boys, well you are entitled to your opinion.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) I'd say third, behind Perry and Ventura. Also, I think your statement speaks more to the quality of our 3B's. Well yes it does. So why would anyone that uses past history (stats) to predict the future, believe the next guy will be better? Stats are a wonderful way to analyze the past, but only one tool to predict the future.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) i agree with you kalapse, but you should know by now that on this site trying to cite intelligent statistics that have their foundations in years upon years of statistical analysis will always be met with the "did you watch those games?" and "those stats are meaningless" type responses. but you are right Then why play the games? If statistical analysis is so foolproof, it would seem that it is unnecessary to actually play the games. Unless there are factors that cannot be predicted by the stats. Hmmm Why do teams employ Scouts to go see a player? All they should need are the stats.
-
I watch the game too, and in about 30+ years of watching, he's the second best 3b we've had.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 07:56 AM) As far as I'm concerned, Joe Crede was the Sox MVP for the '05 stretch run and post season. If that doesn't define clutch, I don't know what does. And don't go pull up some stats that shows someone else hit better through that stretch as Crede, in addition to some HUGE clutch hits, also made quite a few HUGE clutch defensive plays. I think sometimes people forget the fact that though we swept the Astros, we only outscored them by a combined 6 runs in the 4 games. Great pitching, I know, but Joe Crede was nails at 3B. But f*** him, toss him out with the garbage.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Yeah well Al Gore is a hypocrite and that's all that matters. End of discussion. Al Gore has to live in a mud hut and eat raw foods, before he'll stop being a hypocrite to some.
