Parallels with Chris Colabello?

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) He will, I'm talking about this coming Weds. Geez, right, we're down 3 starters from opening day now.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) Do we know it's Axe, by elimination? Why wouldn't Carroll get another shot?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) MLB Stat of the Day @MLBStatoftheDay 40m Jose Abreu’s three multi-homer games – through his first 24 contests – are the most for any player since 1914. Babe Ruth was a rookie that year, but didn't hit any homers. I wonder who that was.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Just so it's stated every time someone says this...no he isn't. He was a plus defender there in 2011 but he has gotten progressively worse there every season. He's at best average, maybe even slightly below average there. He turns the DP well but his range has decreased and he's gotten sloppier. He committed 12 errors at 2b last year while playing only 100 games, making him one of the sloppiest 2b in the league. Just to say it...he had a worse fielding percentage than Dan Uggla! Alexei lead the league in errors last year with 22. He had a worse fielding percentage than Beckham and Dan Uggla! Should this be characterized as "getting progressively worse" or a "bad defensive season"?

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) Beckham hasn't changed much in the last four years. He's abysmal at the plate and has a good glove leading to a WAR of about 1/season. He was a better hitter than Alexei last year despite battling through injuries. He was a better hitter than Alexei in 2012. Complain about Alexei with the same vociferousness.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) Always sucks to lose your job right after hitting a game-winning grand slam. He was on the way out regardless, but it still stinks. It's like seeing your sub come to the scorer's table in basketball and proceeding to rain down 3's before the next stoppage Or hitting one 3, bringing your OBP, er, 3-point percentage up to .280 for the year.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) Our roster is fine where it is at. Only question is Konerko but we can't do anything about that. I hate that Beckham has to come back. We have been playing fine. He either needs to be the utility guy or needs to be traded now. Who, instead of Konerko, do the Sox need as a 25th man getting very little playing time? What young player that we have would be better served by sitting on the bench in Chicago?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) With Gillaspies and Sales situation in flux, this move greatly confuses me. I'd say in the immediate term with Gillaspie and Eaton day-to-day, we need more available position players. Assuming Gillaspie's not going to the DL, soon enough this week Semien will go to start every day at AAA and Leesman or someone else is back up to start.

Hawk is going to injure himself on one of these dramatic homers when he thinks he needs to reach down deep for more screaming volume

Do you think Paulie would retire midseason?

White Sox currently tied for MLB lead in runs scored

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) I have to ask, how did you know this? I remembered hearing announcers discuss it a long long time ago. Can't remember whether or not it ever actually came into play. I mistakenly thought it might have when Willie McGee won the NL batting title in '90 despite being traded to Oakland before the end of the season, but he had more than enough PAs in St. Louis. Then a couple years ago it was being discussed again when Melky Cabrera amazingly ended with 501 PAs before his 50 game drug suspension. He would have won the title if he hadn't asked to be taken out of consideration, and then MLB instituted a special rule that said rule 10.22a could not apply to suspended players. Edit: It happened in 1996. the Tony Gwynn Rule "Although he was four plate appearances (PAs) short of the minimum to qualify for the title, MLB Rule 10.22(a)—also known as the Tony Gwynn rule—allowed hitless at-bats to be added to his record to qualify. Gwynn, who batted .353 in 498 PAs, would have dropped to .349 with the extra at-bats, still five points better than second-place Ellis Burks’ .344." -

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) That's news to me. I always thought 502 PA's was the rule. Rule 10.22(a): “The individual batting, slugging or on-base percentage champion shall be the player with the highest batting average, slugging percentage or on-base percentage, as the case may be, provided the player is credited with as many or more total appearances at the plate in league championship games as the number of games scheduled for each club in his club’s league that season, multiplied by 3.1 in the case of a Major League player. Total appearances at the plate shall include official times at bat, plus bases on balls, times hit by pitcher, sacrifice hits, sacrifice flies and times awarded first base because of interference or obstruction. Notwithstanding the foregoing requirement of minimum appearances at the plate, any player with fewer than the required number of plate appearances whose average would be the highest, if he were charged with the required number of plate appearances shall be awarded the batting, slugging or on-base percentage championship, as the case may be.” -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) That's not true though. In order to qualify you have to have X amount of ABs. He doesn't meet that number. In a case where someone doesn't qualify for the minimum PAs, but is close, they do a calculation assuming the player got no more hits and reached the minimum PA total. If this were the end of the season and Flowers was 3 PAs short, they would assume he went 0 for 3 and then calculate the average. If he still had the highest average, he'd win the batting title. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) My stat of the day - if Tyler Flowers had 3 more at bats he would be the American League leader in batting average. Sporting an obscene .606 BABIP. If he went 0 for 3, he'd still be leading so he is technically the batting leader. -
Chris Sale to start Thu May 22 vs Yankees

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) Last impact free agent the Sox signed was Jose Abreu. fixed

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) I don't care who he puts in right now. Just curious about Rienzo and why he took out Erik. But oh well. A reasonable suspicion may well be that Rienzo, the starter, was brought up to be a potential long man until Leesman comes up to make the start in Paulino's slot

Tyler and Alexei #1 and #2 in AL batting race.
