  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Who's trying to DFA Gillaspie? Not now. I'm talking before the regular season started.
  2. And lots of people wanted to just hand the opening day 3B job to Davidson and DFA Gillaspie. Even still I'd say a majority of people would say the 2 biggest revelations of the season are Abreu (obviously) and Eaton though Gillaspie has contributed more. Because of Eaton's higher grindiness quotient?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Pay is a factor though. Beckham is at the peak of his value. There isn't any surplus there. There might even be some deficit there. For Dunn, he is paid WAY over his value. That's why he is still here. Even then, his skill set has gone by the wayside in the game today. Teams aren't paying for just DH's to hit homers, walk, and strike out. Mark Reynolds couldn't even get a major league contract this spring. He had to take a minor league deal with the promise of a couple of million dollars if he made the 25 man roster. I think for Dunn his contract value is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of what he is making now. Unless the Sox pick up a large chunk of his dollars, he won't move. Beckham could still move without any dollars picking up, at the expense of the return for him. Why does anyone think the Sox won't pick up a large chunk of his salary? Because his salary is high, he will make it through waivers without being claimed after the deadline. There isn't the same urgency for him to be moved in the next 2 days. Waiting into August allows for 1) the Sox to prove they really aren't in contention 2) a 1B/DH on another team to get injured
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) Jesus. Can he keep having lucky weeks? It's been an awesome 2 months for him with July particularly insane. Since June 1 in 51 games, he's batting .378 with 17 homers and an OPS of 1.130
  5. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Point still stands I agree Beckham's a big upgrade for them. Hopefully there's still time for the Giants to come to their senses. Perhaps Hahn is demanding at least something in return so the Giants decided to roll the dice on literally the worst hitter in baseball w/ more than 150 PAs.. and he's not known for his defense either... http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/dan-ugg...ive-hole-072814
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) San Francisco is a team for which Beckham would be a huge upgrade. They just picked up Uggla.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Calling Adolfo as Zapata, and saying 2016 is his ETA is all I need to know about this list. Micker Adolfo Zapata http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...45&sid=milb
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) The fact is you still can't figure out run production or wins and losses the way you suggested it. And you can't figure out run production based on "late inning maneuverability." But I do find it funny that when Konerko pinch hits in a one run game in the 9th and gets a hit, people complain about Konerko being on the team and Ventura's managing rather than Viciedo's inability to connect with the baseball. It's absurd. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) You cannot predict how another player with running ability and multi positional talent would be as a DH in Konerko's absence but we do know he would not be one dimensional. I didn't propose doing an actual calculation to come up with a number in runs, simply pointing out that there are trade offs positive and negative, the net of which over the course of the season are extremely inconsequential.
  9. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 07:07 PM) Anyone that says Robin is the worst, likely wasn't around when Bevington was a manager. Or how about John Ferrell. Red Sox won the World Series last year and now he, the manager, has the team in last place with a worse record than the White Sox. You have to give Robin props for deciding to make his team win more games than last year instead of less games as Ferrell is doing.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) Having the 2nd best DH production has nothing to do with late innings maneuverability. If we had lost a few more games due to lesser DH production so be it but that cannot be figured out the way you suggest. Having "late innings maneuverability" has nothing to do with having a strong (2nd best in baseball) DH platoon.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) The real issue we witness here, other than just run-of-the-mill guys not quite getting their jobs done, is the continued hamstringing of our bench due to the fact we have two DH-only players. Sox are #2 in the AL in DH production with an .849 OPS. Add up the runs scored by having 2nd best DH setup, subtract any runs lost by being "hamstrung" by the lack of some other 25th man.
  12. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) So he qualifies now? Is he enough ahead that he'll stay on the good side so long as he doesn't miss any starts? Or are we looking at another week of 'drop off after 2 games'? He might drop off for a day before his next start depending on how deep he goes in this game.
  13. As of now Sale is the American League ERA leader.
  14. Flowers now 14 for 26 last 8 games. .538 w/ 6 doubles and a homer.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) 81st game? Beckham's 81st game this year
  16. Beckham with his 21st double in 81st game. 42 double pace for a full season. I multiplied by 2.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) He used to be so good, its amazing the drop off. but seriously, the guy turned 30 and it all went downhill. True. And I really don't se us picking him up. But… He was still crushing right-handed pitching last year (.302/.357/.522/.878). Maybe he's done for good. Maybe he's just having a particularly terrible year (see Adam Dunn 2011) and can turn it around. He'll get sent to an American league team and we will see if he can hack it as a platoon DH.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 12:42 AM) We know the Sox will pay none of his contract I'm certain the Sox are going to pay some of his contract.
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Meanwhile, #26 for Wilkins. One lucky week. It doesn't count.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) I think he's simply untradeable. Nobody wants Adam Dunn and we're going to find that out as the deadline passes. That's just a very weird thing to say if you watch baseball.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) An ex-girlfriend who has gotten uglier but you still need some and rather than trying something new, you just say "screw it, let's go." Yep. That seems to be the case.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) He is older than Viciedo. I don't understand.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) I'm guessing there probably has been, but Dunn is a fat chick at a bar. Nobody is going to go up to her first, but by the end of the night, someone will be desparate enough to take her home. Then what is Kendrys Morales? I need to understand.
