  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 01:21 AM) It's tank time on the southside. And I'm not talking Viciedo. One game out of that 10 draft pick
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 12:44 AM) I would keep him in the minors the rest of the year, as he threw a ton of pitches for NC St. Given the fact this team isn't playing for anything the rest of the way, I'm just not a fan of rushing him up. If he comes up, I would think it's because there was some sort of agreement when he signed, a la Sale and Gillaspie.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) Gordon has been a well below average BABIP player throughout his time in the majors. His current BABIP mirrors his 2012 BABIP. The reason Gordon always has a low BABIP is because he has an astronomically high IFBB% - that is, a really high rate of popping up. He used to, but he's been much better the past 2 years. Alexei is actually worst in baseball this year and Conor is 4th worst.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 04:07 PM) You know...when you hit the ball weakly, you are going to have a bad BAPIP. Simple as that. He's a bad hitter and a bad player. You talking Beckham or Semien right now?
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) never said anything about the pen. with the starting pitchers, I will say we agree to disagree. Hahn needed to get 1 more sp and not gamble heavily on what he started the season with. He did. Hector Noesi. And it's worked.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) Just woke up. Looking at the box score. Can someone please tell me that Leury Garcia leading off is some sort of sick joke by mlb.com? Yes, and he gave up 8 runs in his first trip to the plate. It was weird.
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) Seriously embarrassing game tonight. Changes need to be made. Let's hear them.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 06:11 PM) 100% agree with this. And quite frankly, I think wasting another year of a cheap and healthy Sale/Quintana pairing would be foolish. One of those guys could go down with injury at any time, so now that we have some semblance of an offensive core we shouldn't be waiting on internal candidates to fill all the remaining holes. Obviously we shouldn't do anything stupid, but waiting another full season before signing decent free agents would be a huge mistake IMO. This team is pretty close to being legit if Rodon lives up to the hype. My thought too. We aren't waiting for Abreu, or Eaton or Gillaspie to develop. Really we're hoping they don't regress much or get hurt, all while still breaking in Avisail and a rookie second baseman. With the payroll as low as it is I hope we add a couple/few proven guys who will do the job in the next 3 years while more of our farmhands move up the ranks.
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) I think we should be rooting for Dunn to bunt. The issue was Rasmus bunt away from the shift. If you don't want me to bunt away from the shift. Don't shift.
  10. If Sierra brought in a pair of glasses for every player to be wearing when Flowers returned to the dugout from an at bat he would achieve legendary prankster status.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) Why do you think this? We signed Abreu last offseason and tried to go even bigger with Tanaka. Hahn is going to spend money if he finds the right fits. He's just not going to sign aging veterans to extremely long deals. I am with you on this. If you look at the fastest way to make the biggest improvement to next year's team, it's to add the best right-handed starting pitcher we can stomach giving a contract to. We are 12th in the AL in starting pitching this year. How many wins would we add with, for example, James Shields instead of the 5th man carousel? There is no one in AAA knocking down the door for a rotation spot. Add a left handed outfield bat that is better than De Aza and a bullpen arm or two and the team could/should be in the mix for a wild card and believing they can compete and win without the pressure/expectation that they have to win this season. That's a good spot to be in.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) 1st game against Boston at Fenway? Whichever game Bradley made that awesome catch on Flowers hit It was apparently 7/9 He's hitting .390 with 11 xbh and 23.4% strikeout rate with glasses
  13. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) The difference is he's actually been much more than just a singles hitter. Dude had 10 XBHs before he put on the glasses...He's since had 11 in 18 games. He's really a different hitter right now. What was Tyler's first game A.G. (after glasses)?
  14. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) Flowers has to be setting some records for streakiness this season. Some cherry-picking. First 26 games .357 BA Next 52 games .152 Last 15 games .458
  15. Flowers has to be setting some records for streakiness this season.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Apparently you are one person who thinks it is impossible for Hahn to make a bad move. I don't think that. Every GM will make bad moves. It's baseball. It's to some degree a crapshoot. I think he's clearly made way more good moves than bad. There's always a big contingent of poster here who has a major hardon to complain about something, anything at all times. The current flavor being "this would be a playoff team if we just had Addison Reed." I'm not saying you are doing that. You're saying you had concerns early on that they were dumping Davidson. Even if Davidson ends up a total bust and never contributes in the big leagues, trading away your about-to-get-expensive closer from a rebuilding team for a position player is the thing to target. If the Sox got "fooled" on Davidson, then so did every other scouting service who ranked him so high.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) My point was he was willing to overpay for power. If he was as high on Davidson as Soxtalk, and I am guessing he has better reports, I doubt he overpays for power. Something didn't add up in my mind. Right or wrong that is the truth. I can buy that. But then also his decisions are frequently wrong.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Does anyone really think that if no egg would be on his face and Towers offered Reed for Davidson at the trade deadline, Hahn would pass? How about if the D'Backs were offered back Eaton and Skaggs for Trumbo?
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Whateves. The sign that at least the DBacks didn't think too much of Davidson's " middle of the order " bat was when they traded for Trumbo, basically a RH Adam Dunn with fewer walks. Eaton and Skaggs is a high price to pay if you think you already have that power in house. And I definitely mentioned when a lot of people were concerned about his super 2 status, the possibility no one will give a crap about that during the season. Does anyone really think that if no egg would be on his face and Towers offered Reed for Davidson at the trade deadline, Hahn would pass? Is your point that the D'Back are really smart, and make all the right moves? Since they are the smartest they knew to unload Davidson to get Reed? Where were their smarts in the Eaton/Skaggs trade? While you're at it, look at it in the context of them just trading away Parra. Do you think if they had it to do over again they'd trade Parra at his peak value in the offseason and still have Eaton right now? Is your point that the DBack's GM is a genius who was intending to compete this year and so traded away a prospect for a closer who is getting more expensive and they are 14 games under .500 and have Mark Trumbo instead of Eaton and Skaggs?
  20. This thread blows. You don't spend a ton of money on a bullpen for a rebuilding team. You don't trade away prospects from a rebuilding team to get veteran bullpen arms. Relief pitchers have the most erratic results from year to year of any players. The bullpen as constructed with Jones and Lindstom not getting injured and Belisario and Downs simply pitching similarly to last year and the rest of their careers, the bullpen is just fine. If you are going to blame Rick Hahn for veteran relievers not pitching up to their historical numbers or getting injured then by the same "logic" you also have to credit Hahn for everything Jose Abreu has done. Abreu hasn't hit one home run this year, Hahn hit them. P.S.- Our bullpen is 12th best in the AL. Our starters are also 12th best. Can there be a separate forum on this site just for posters who don't say dumb s***?
  21. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) The career stats back up my belief that our bullpen sucks because of Robin's complete ignorance in using it and lack of defining roles for anyone. The role for each one of them is to get the hitter out instead of not get the hitter out. Always. Every pitcher.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) I was thinking the same thing. I have a strange feeling De Aza will hang around longer than we want. I don't think they'll count on him being worth his $5.5-$6 million price tag, though he has been quite good the last 2 months. And platooning him might be the best way to go.
