  1. The weird thing is, it doesn't bother me at all when the other excellent closers in the league blow the rare save. I forget about it instantly and go on to believe that's an excellent pitcher who had one bad night. But when it happens to Jenks, I find myself whining and complaining a lot. Logic-faking the causes in my head, blaming everyone including the offense, etc., worrying unnecessarily and calling for trades. It would seem like I insanely overanalyze anything that doesn't go well for my own favorite team, ignoring the good, and do the exact opposite for ever single other team in baseball, ignoring the bad and hyper focusing on anything they do well.
  2. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Thome will likely retire after this season Why would you say that?
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) $10 million a year is too much for a #4 or 5 SP. I'm not saying what is or isn't. I'm just referring to what the actual market rate is. Carlos Silva got 4 years and $48 million this offseason, you'll recall. Barry Zito is making 74 infinity dollars.
  4. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Richars arm is only a notch below uribe's, I don't know why you would say that. I also wonder how large your notches are. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Its not a position where defense is a major concern. In what? Baseball? Yes, in baseball it is. If it wasn't, you'd put anyone out there, like Josh Fields or Alexi Ramirez- better hitters than Uribe. Relatively speaking, few players have the athleticism/agility/quickness to play shortstop and second base. As a group, the worst hitters are the catchers, then shortstops, then 2nd baseman. If it was easy to find tons of players who can adequately play these positions, obviously, they would have good hitters play instead of bad hitters. The defense is of such a major concern at these positions that teams are willing to put not-so-good hitters there.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) For what he's making money-wise, tonight should be the rule, not the exception. It would seem you are unfamiliar with the going rate for veteran #4 or #5 starters.
  6. Over the two years, Thome has been notably better in virtually every statistical category. Homers, walks, runs, slg, OBP, OPS, etc. RBI is the one where Frank just nudges Thome out, 209 to 205. Almost identical plate appearances (Frank had 37 more). Frank's OPS+ 132 very good Thome's OPS+ 153 excellente AL 2006-2007 OPS+ 1 Ortiz 2 Al Rodriguez 3 Thome
  7. QUOTE (3E8 @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Every team should be so lucky... a 4.50 ERA in the Cell is better than league average Yep. Park adjusted league average at Comiskey since 2000 is 4.64.
  8. When was the last time Thome was ejected from a game before last night?
  9. I am having a real hard time with the s***ty facial hair on this team. Biggest disappointment yet.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Inge and Bonderman. Rodney pitched for them that year but he's not on their team right now. Right, so kinda not the same team. There are probably other major league teams with as many '03 Tigers on them. Point being, the guy(s) claiming that the Tigers season is over with 155 games to go is rather silly.
  11. QUOTE (sox-r-us @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) 2003 v/s 2008 stats 2003 ~V~ 2008 0-7 Rec. 0-7 12-45 RS-RGU 15-44 7 Unearned 7 3 Errors 5 27 Hits 55 40 Strike Outs 41 Is there one player on the team now who was on the '03 team?
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) One good week isn't going to give him that much more trade value. and it also isn't going to invent teams that all of a sudden need a 3rd baseman and have a reasonable chance at competing this year, making them willing to pay Joe's salary and give up anything worthwhile. There are basically no such teams until a starting 3rd baseman somewhere comes up with a serious injury. This thread is rather ridiculous. I have a sinking feeling that Crede will not hit .400 for the whole season. AJ will not hit .500. Mark my words, Baltimore will not be leading the AL East. Somebody please write this down somewhere, the Tigers will win a game, perhaps several games. It's the first f***ing week of the season. I am someone who thought there is very little expected difference between Crede and Fields as the starter. I'd bet Fields would put up better numbers at the plate over a full year, but they'd be relatively close. Crede obviously is the stronger defender, but Fields will continue to improve. Removing Crede's $5 mil salary could potentially be crucial in adding a player by the trading deadline. Very little estimable, projectable difference in the value to the team of the 2 players. But even if you are someone who said, "Don't offer Crede a contract," you were not wrong about Joe Crede.
  13. This is the perfect spot for when Owens is back and is riding the pine, to come in and pinch run for Paulie, send Swish to 1B and Owens to CF. No double play!
  14. It does seem to me to be, at very least, a personal thing with Brian Anderson. Ozzie's "logic" here doesn't hold up: 'I got a bunch of e-mails that said I played the 'Cuban Missile' [rookie Alexei Ramirez in the season opener] because he's Cuban,'' Guillen said. ''Wow, did you see the spring training the 'Cuban Missile' had? You would play him, too." Probably the only person who had a better spring than Ramirez was Anderson. And Anderson is far and away the best center fielder on the team. And has played in the majors before. And wasn't showing, by the end of spring, that pitchers figured out that he can't hit a breaking ball. Address that, Ozzie.
  15. It would be really nice to get into that bullpen early in game 1 of this series. Especially with Dontrelle up tomorrow.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Whats up with our bullpen beards Yeah, pretty embarrassing. Kenny needs to make a rule: No facial hair that completely sucks ass.
  17. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Score? 2-1 Sox Now Swisher singles with one out. Anderson in to run for Swish.
  18. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) Credeocre!! We are the solo homer team, fear us! Better than the can only score 1 run team from Cleveland today.
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) I would take 5 Garlands over what we have now. That's a $60 million rotation.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 03:19 AM) quit whining and be more pissed offed with me cuz the Sox still haven't signed Bonds In all seriousness, if Thome went down with a season-ending injury, would Kenny pick up Bonds?
  21. QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) The difference is that Uribe is one of the easiest outs in MLB. (He's been in or around the bottom 5 in OBP of all starting position players in MLB the last two years.) So he slaps homeruns occassionally to pump up his numbers and lull Sox management into playing him. That doesn't negate all the offensive opportunities for the team that he snuffs out. So you think Ozuna sucks too. Fine. But when it comes to making outs and putting the offense into a stall, he sucks much less. Play him. My thoughts exactly. And of all people, why the hell does Sex Ram get a free pass. He's had success for all of 20some spring training games. So have Anderson and Quentin as well as varying degrees of success at the majors (Quentin 06, Anderson second half 06), and oh yeah, one of them is a great center fielder. Ramirez has been exactly as bad as we feared- the book is out on him- can't hit a breaking ball- 0 for 7 with 4 ks. edited to add- Quentin starts!
