  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) How many of those guys were released, placed on waivers, not signed by any team, and signed to a minor league contract? Ludwick
  2. Well I dont think we know what the medical procedure for this would be. But I am just going by the thought that: Abscence of Quentin now is acceptable if it means a healthy one for years to come (atleast with this injury, im not saying that healing this one will prevent future wrist injuries or something).
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) Guys, come on. If you were a team, wouldnt you want to build around two top of the rotation type pitchers like Lincecum and Cain? What would you take in trade for John Danks? Start there and see if someone like Nix or Getz would be able to grab Danks from you. I dont think anyone is actually thinking those would be the demands for Cain, maybe as a second piece along with a Danks2 or Beckham then yes, I could see them being included. Kind of like the position prospect style of the Poreda/Richard proposal for Peavy.
  4. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) So you would shut down Quentin for the rest of the year because he has plantar fasciitis? Seems a bit overreactionary Not the season, but you put him on the 15 day dl, and go from there. If he's close to 100% then you activate him. If not, 60 day dl. Then once again you reexamine him and see where he is. Hopefully by that point he's healed. But BearSox is right, you dont mortgage his future for this season. He's too valuable to the team to exacerbate the injury. Now I dont know the medical effects it could have on him but one would tend to believe that playing on an injured heel will not heal it and will make it worse.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Nix was available for the minimum and SF passed. I highly doubt they would trade a 24 year old pitcher who is 5-1 with a 2.40 ERA in a deal centered around him. Exactly what I was saying. Sabean would be ran out of town if he ever did that. Probably out of the country.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) His sample size is small because he isn't that good! If there were people that really believed in him, one of the worst teams in baseball wouldn't have released him, and all of the teams wouldn't have passed on him. You could argue sample size just as easily for Fields if wanted to. And like I said, Nix is getting the advantage of being matched up where he can succeed best, versus Fields who is out there everyday. Come on, teams pass on guys all the time, either they dont have the roster space to take the risk or they dont feel the player has a chance, but that doesnt mean the player can improve or be overlooked.
  7. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) FWIW, Levine mentioned Cain on the Afternoon Saloon yesterday as well...adding it could be a very good fit especiallyif we could dangle a Nix or Getz in their direction It would have to be alot more than that. If it really is centered around one of those guys and we threw in some pitching prospects, then you definitely have to go for it.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) Melanie is too top tall. Anyone? Anyone? I like the one in the middle. I would wreck that middle one. The other two, not so much.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) There is nothing sexier than that picture. What about that pepperoni nipples guy?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) BTW, how is it I've scrolled through this thread and not yet seen any photos of Jake Peavy photoshopped into a Sox uniform? Well, people were too busy creaming themselves to make a picture. It would be sexier than wite's Bonds in the White Sox jersey pic.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) At the end of this thread, Jake Peavy is either going to be the greatest pitcher who ever lived or the biggest pussy. Fixed. (Just what everybody will be saying)
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) I forgot about Escobar. He's very toolsy I've heard, and he can stick at SS. Perhaps he is one of the PTBNL. I can live with those guys leaving, but I really want to keep Hudson.
  13. Ask Geoff Blum to give Peavy a good recommendation for us.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Peavy has a career line of .178/.219/.234. But his last two years have actually been much better, and even decent for a pitcher: 07: .233/.250/.315 08: .265/.302/.306 So...he'll lead off for us? I bet he's fast and grindy
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Ugh. Just when KW was on a roll with good rumors...
  16. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) At the end of hteday the team needs to part wit ha ton of salary AND talent. The Brewers were offering CCthis money. Now they are offering this money and top level talent. There are bery few teamsthat can join in this conversation. There is a part of me that thinks the framework for this deal was laid this past offseason or the thought of it. Should this deal get pulled off, the Swisher and Vazquez dealsare what made it happen. I could also see the Sox trying to put Giles in center and lead-off or grab Eckstein in the deal. You drunk?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Who are these "people" that these players have that are feeding lines to the media. And why is Peavy so scared to pitch in the AL? PLenty of good arms throw in the AL, you dont think you are one of them? He must love to hit.
  18. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) The last 2 I could live with. I'd say the Pads would want all of the good young pitching they could get with this deal. Hudson>Poreda in my mind.
  19. Id be really hesitant to include Danks2, Beckham, or Hudson, with Beckham being the dealbreaker. He cant be in it. Not in my mind. I really like Danks and Hudson though, Im just so excited about them. But then again maybe I am just because I havent had anything to really be excited about before from our system. Agreed about Poreda being a better trade chip then an actual prospect.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ May 13, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) I didn't realize people under the age of 50 watched NCIS Haha, I hadn't even heard of the show until Spring Break, when I was in NOLA and my trip adviser for alt spring break was watching it and I liked it. Then again, I kinda grew up watching Law and Order with my parents, so that could be an explanation.
  21. NCIS with another great episode. Season finale should be good next week.
  22. I jsut rewatched the last five minutes or so of the last Scrubs, and wow, it really was a great way to end it. That video of JD's possible future was so great, and like SnB said that song just fits there so well. As much as I love that show, I really hope that was the end of it, no Scrubs interns or crap like that, or trying to have one or two original cast members on the show at a time. Let it go out with that fantastic ending.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) Oh, I would definately consider making 5yrs 75M and stated that much in an earlier post. I thought you were indicating that he'd be had for a deal similar to that of Dunn or Abreu's and that would be shocking since at the very least you'll have the Red Sox interested in bringing him back. Personally, I think he is almost certainly going to be resigned by the Red Sox, for more money than alot of teams would offer, and he will probably want atleast JD Drew money from them. I just think his value to the Sox isnt that high, as good as he is IMO he isnt worth $15mill plus, and I figured with the market the way it is I would have the Sox at around between 10 and 13 mill a year, basically filling one of Thome or Dye's contracts.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Lets see. The Angels are still realing after losing out on Texeira and Vladdy is older, struggling and well not exactly the Vladdy of old. So clearly the Angels would be a team that would go balls out for Bay. Than you don't have to go much more North to identify the Dodgers as another option. Manny will probably be gone and the Dodgers could replace Manny's production with Bay. Plus the Red Sox would clearly be interested as well. So that right there is three large market teams that would be intersted in Bay. You also have to figure some other teams will come out of the wood-work as well and I could even see the Cubs having interset if they could find a way to get rid of Bradley/Fukodome's contracts. Giants could be looking for pop as well as they have a great young pitching staff and little offense whatsoever. I stated the Angels as a team that could get desperate, and the Dodgers still have Manny for another year, so unless he gets traded (doubtful) I dont see them looking for a OF for another year. Hendry would have to perform another miracle to get rid of those two and their contracts. Giants are a viable team. I was talking more from the Sox perspective anyways, and what I would offer with the current economy and makeup of our team. Could my suggestion be ridiculous? Yup. Could it be what they are willing to pay? Yup. Could the Red Sox resign him for 5 years 75 mill? Pretty possible because they can afford it. My point as I said earlier, with the down market and the needs of the Sox I would offer him that much maybe a bit more, basically replacing one of Dye or Thomes contracts and a bit more, if he takes it then great. If not, we have alot of options to play around with.
