QUOTE (SnB @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) colleen schultz still teach it? that class sucked. I dont like her, but the class is pretty easy to me, but then again I think stats is a subject that just comes to some people and not to others. Then again, I was AWFUL at Calc, so I get to make up a little bit here.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Cutler and Olsen bonding at Sub 51 over the weekend. This seems like a good "caption this photo" opportunity. Let me start "dude i can't believe you actually wrote a song and said "hey fellas lets get weird, stick your dick up in her ear" ... what the f*** were you thinking?" "Dude, you've got something on your face...Oh, wait, its your double chin." - Olsen

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) The first question on the last quiz was the problem. Ahh, then you have to use t chart. So you have mean + or - tvalue(stdev./sqroot of n) To find the t value you need to look at the confidence value, which for that problem is 98% so you split 2% in half (100-98=2) so you look at the first row (because .2/2= .1, so its the first row) of the t chart and go down to 20, since thats your n. So you would have 1.325 as your tvalue. then just plug in the rest.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) If the standard deviation (1 sigma) is 4.44, does it make sense that the 98% confidence limit can be less than 1 sigma away from the mean? It all depends on n, the sample size. Since sqroot of 20 is 4.4721 then it will be less than 1 sigma. But if n was larger than it would increase, all part of statistics.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) I took the quiz over 30 times and I kept getting it wrong using that same formula. Never did get it right, even put the same answer as the one you gave. Maybe my Mallard is screwed up or something. I even did it just now using that equation and got it wrong(I knw you can't submit past 5, but it'll tell you if you're right or wrong). I'm going to talk to the TA I guess. Which quiz is this? The third one of the set for this midterm? I had problems with that one, but it was all stupid mistakes in calculations. Maybe you had trouble with that (like you were doing it wrong but didnt realize it). I always divide the stdev. by the sqroot of n first, then I multiply that number by the z value. Basically, that method just cuts down on errors for me for when i put it in the calculator.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) You need to multiply the 2.3133 by the standard deviation of the data. 12.75 + or minus 2.33(4.44/sqroot of 20) is the equation.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Yes. Use pages 134 and 135 in your course book, if you ahve the notes for those pages it basically spells out what to do. Hope it helps, just ask if you need more help.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) A random sample of 20 college students was taken and it was found that they drank an average of 12.75 sodas per week and the sample standard deviation was 4.44. If we know that the number of sodas drank per week by college students is normally distributed, compute the 98% confidence interval estimate of the population mean. Anyone know the answer to that? 12.75 + or - 2.3133 so (10.4367, 15.0633)

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Is this the range? I need the "mean +- somethingsomething". Obviously the mean is easy since they give it to you. I can't figure out the somethingsomething part though. I have been doing 2.33(sd/sqrt of sample). Does not seem to be working. ECON 202?

Linky from Digg.com I really hope the writers take their time and come up with a great script, but I have a huge amount of faith in them to do so.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) Bottom of the 10th- Shelby walked Hudson bunted, bad throw at 2nd. Both safe. Bad pickoff, Beckham intentionally walked. Allen base hit. Barons win 7-6 Thanks, the update is much appreciated. I like how Beckham is now being intentionally walked in clutch situations. Theyre learning not to give Slayer anything in those situations.

QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) So i got a little surprise check in the mail today from a 401K plan I had when working for a bank right when out of high school. I'm in a market for a laptop as I never had one! I was wondering what you guys like as far as brands go? I remember someone here swore by Lenovo laptops, that's new name for IBM home products, correct? I'm trying to keep this purchase under $800. Probably going to go with Dual T6400 processor, those are standard.. Is Intel better then AMD? I want 4GB operating memory, decent size hard drive, trying to keep in around 15" for portability. Wirless b/g/n would be great, decent sounds, can't think of anything else? Do you guys have some suggestions? I know most of the members here are very computer savvy any tips or advice would be great. Dell has become very reliable for laptops. HP is sketchy in my mind, my gf has an uncle who works for HP and it still took her half a year to get any type of customer service for the crap she got. Lenovo has a fanbase that will stand by them forever, but they seem to cost more. Try Slickdeals.net or DealsofAmerica.com, they seem to have a ton of updates on the latest deals, sometimes lenovos, mostly Dell. Personally I have a Dell, spent about $700, has decent specs all around, 3GB ram, 250ishGB Harddrive, Duo Core Processor (cant remember the actual model), upgraded screen (I think its 15.6in), and of course wireless. Sound is really weak tho, you would want to buy headphones or speaker system (I went with Logitech z-2300, awesome). I havent had any real problems with the laptop at all, Ive been really pleased with it.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) There is no fault in it I was merely saying that I personally find it annoying that while many people every day die from drunk drivers the only time its really ever brought to attention is when its someone who is either a professional athlete or a celebrity. Why does it have to be someone "famous" to send a message? There is no difference between someone who can throw a baseball good and Joe Schmo in Denver, Colorado. If I lived in a large city or it was like early in the evening, I wouldn't risk it. However, I feel comfortable in my ability to get myself home safely without driving like madman in my setting. Well, personally I have never had any personal contact with anyone who has been in an drunk driving accident, so far. So, my largest contact with hearing about these incidents have been ones told my cheesy school videos, or famous athletes who have been involved. And Ive lived in urban and suburban areas, so I should be more exposed to this I guess. Basically, when famous people are involved in these incidents it just reinforces to people that "oh s***, this is real. this can really happen to me." I think that same message is applied to people who know friends, family, etc who have had similar experiences.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 01:24 AM) I don't need to change anything, I don't live in Los Angeles.. I don't live in the actual city of Houston.. I live in a place where driving home at 2-3 in the morning means you are generally the only car visible. So, youre saying that drinking and driving doesnt affect you. Fair enough. Maybe others are in a similar position where it also hasn't hit them personally, and maybe seeing an athlete like Nick be killed by a drunk driver sends a wake up message to them. Wheres the fault in that?
