  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Ya, he's 6-5 with upside is about the best thing I could find. He was his teams #1 as a junior. Mustve been injured then, I wonder what was up with his senior year.
  2. So any guys out there that the Sox could be looking at to be Danks2 like draftpick? Where they feel it is worth to reach on some of these picks and sign this guy later? Im very dissappointed in these last couple of picks, I want power arms who can be a big impact. (And as Chisoxfn said, doesnt mean these guys are bad, but from the reports were seeing they aren't top prospects that I am hoping for).
  3. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) Next pick in: KYLE BELLAMY, RHP, MIAMI Bellamy was a first-team all-conference choice in the Atlantic Coast Conference and was a key reason that Miami—unranked in the preseason—overachieved and finished in the ACC's top five teams. The Hurricanes have a long history of tremendous relievers, dating back to the Ron Fraser era (Rick Raether was the MOP of the 1985 College World Series) and enhanced during Jim Morris' Miami tenure, from Danny Graves and Jay Tessmer to George Huguet and 2008 first-rounder Carlos Gutierrez. Bellamy could work out better than Tessmer and Huguet thanks to a heavy, sinking fastball that is his trademark. When he's fresh, Bellamy works at 88-91 mph; he loses velocity when he works on back-to-back days, sometimes dipping into the 84-87 range. Bellamy's success as a pro will hinge on improved fastball command and improved consistency with his frisbee slider, which lacks depth and power. -BA Not very exciting from that.
  4. U of I guy just drafted, I have no info on him though.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Tampa gets Bailey. SD gets Sampson. f***!
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) That BA had a 2 run dinger and a walk in a game doesn't mean he's Ted Williams... It means he his compared to Dweezy.
  7. Chemistry is very important for a team to have, especially in such a long season as we have. A player-player or player-manager feud can really drain a team's energy or focus. Thus, a good manager can help the team stay focused, loose, yet aggresive while putting the right player in the right position, basically giving the team hte best chance to succeed. It is then up to the players to perform in those positions. A bad manager can lose his team's faith or focus, and instead of devoting their time to scouting or film the players may be spending their time arguing with who should be playing or some fued between the manager and player. The team can get tense, lackadaisical, etc. and really hurt the team's ability to win. Ozzie was great in 2005 because the player's performed in the positions given (atleast most of them, especially the starters and the bullpen). When the team got unfocused towards the end Ozzie was able to get them back on the right track and not have them combust like they were looking too. Ozzie now is setting himself up for failure by playing his favorites who are not performing and thus making his decisions look bad not only to fans, but to management and players alike. His team isnt just worried about winning now, they are worried about who is going to be in the lineup, who is going to get called down, who is coming up, who is losing playing time, what the other players are doing.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) It's funny that these are the complaints this year. In previous years the complaint was we took the safe pick without the high ceiling (Broadway, McCullough)) or we took them because they were easy to sign. The Sox take the high ceiling guys or the tough to sign guys and now there are complaints about that. I like our draft so far, but not in love with it. I love going after high upside guys, and going after a Scheppers or some type of player like that (one who requires more money but is essentially one of the top prospects) would really help our system. That said, we got some high upside guys, and I hope they can progress through the system. Also, even though I like high upside guys, and athletes are usually in this category, I want baseball players who are athletes, and hopefully Mitchell falls into this category more than the Athlete Who Plays baseball type.
  9. So I went out during my lunch break and Murph was on and no wonder you guys hate him so much. He was saying the most ridiculous things, and then started taking calls from people who were saying it was a shame that he was being moved out of the slot. What a f***ing ego for him to take sympathy calls, ones that bashed the Score management. Unprofessional IMO. Also, his voice and wheezing was really annoying. All this in 5 minutes...
  10. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Drafted in 1998. Better point.
  11. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) once again what constitues a fire sale with this team? If KW feels were out of contention then I see JD, Dotel, Linebrink, possibly Thome (if he wants out, otherwise no), Colon, all moved. Contreras maybe if he keeps doing what he did last night (so that a team will actually pick him up).
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Washed up Jason Giambi gets a three run homer off one of the best lefty starters in the AL and all we do is pop up And were blaming bunts.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) The 7th inning sure got here quick. Thats what I was thinking, we need more Slayer!
  14. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:15 AM) Having grown up in Pittsburgh and being a hard-core Pirates fan until the strike year and the dissolving of a once great team, I'm frustrated with the Bucs always trading away their good/great players. I know it's all about the money, but this is a team that has a wonderful stadium and a oddly-big fan base in an awesome city. With their trading of players, it's like they are nothing more than a farm team for the rest of the league. Well guys like McClouth arent players you build around (IMO), to me they are good players but not fantastic and can help a club like the Sox or Braves to win a championship, but theyre not a Quentin or Pujols or some player like that in which you need to build around. I know that its been a rebuilding process for a long time there, but I think they are finally going to start doing it the right way, by actually investing in the international market and the draft, if they do this then they can turn it around in a fairly weak division (especially a division that has such weak farm systems). If they draft well the next two or three years and sign some impact players from overseas you could see the Pirates ready to contend the same time when the Cubs are REALLY to old and will be hurting from a lack of farm system, and same could be said with the depleted Astros and the Cardinals dont look that strong either. The Brewers are really the only team with abundant young talent and even then alot of that could be gone soon with big contracts looming for their guys.
  15. Tell him to keep his checks coming from other teams and we'll be better with Poreda and Richard. And he dont know CR/AP!
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) But won't most teams be asking for Clayton now? It is interesting that KW seems to be using Poreda as a trade chip than as a possible contributor to the Sox, and I think most of us on here like that. I think many here are (including me) are still skeptical whether or not his secondary pitches come around in a consistent basis. I do remember hereing though from JPN that he really liked what he saw from Poreda. Still, if you get the chance to trade Poreda who is more likely to be a bullpen (although prob quite good) guy than a starter for a #1 or #2 guy then I think you have to go for it (of course with taking in age, money etc).
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) I couldnt even begin to answer that question. I see saying "Golf is an old white mans sport" similar to saying "soccer is a young latino sport", which, considering its popularity in Europe is pretty wrong. Golf is everywhere, its an WEALTHY mans sport IMO, someone who has the means to play the game can dominate. That doesnt mean people without as much money cannot compete, but the more money you have the better equipment you can use and the better off you are. I dont know, I think it is a incorrect generalization, and I think Tiger Woods has a lot more worldwide appeal than some here are giving him credit for because of the sport he plays. Tiger is the face of Nike and Gatorade, just like Mike was, people know who he is. Just like baseball, the more money you have the more likely you are to succeed, but if ur gifted at the sport then ur gifted and guys can make it. One problem with seeing golf as a white only sport is that it isnt a sport that offers alot of scholarships for college or the attraction of quick money like football and basketball do, so many high schoolers see golf as a secondary sport and therefore you lose out on a lot of potential start golfers because many dont play until they are older.
  18. I like Richard alot, dont really know why but he's just a guy that Im gonna be rooting for alot.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I am frustrated with fans that are frustrated all the time. Im frustrated with fans who get frustrated with fans.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) damn, i keep hoping after every AB where he looks completely lost Ozzie will let BA start, but at least he put him in to PH and for defense last night. Is Anderson still having flu like symptoms? Could be the reason.
  21. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) No no no, put Alexei in center, FRANK AT SHORT! How about Franklin at short? Sorry, couldnt help it with your avatar.
  22. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) So who exactly do you release, or move down to accommodate this request. He hasn't hit all year long, so what exactly will this accomplish. Youve got players like Whisler to toy around with if you wanted too...
