  1. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) I wasn't trying to call anyone out by that, it was more directed towards how you only really see this when a professional athlete/celebrity has it happen to them when it happens countless times every day somewhere without the same response like they are any different. Edit - And I drink and drive all the time, so clearly im not trying to point you guys out and say you're horrible or something. So whats worse, being shocked by the incident and vowing never to drink and drive again? OR Saying that its stupid to be shocked by this incident because its a commonplace event that can be avoided, YET you still dont do anything to change your own habit of drinking and driving?
  2. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) how about you boo at the end of the game if you lose booing individual players is f***ing pointless, just like your arguement So if you have a bad GM, then you should cheer him on? If you have a bad owner, you should accept it? I understand that it doesnt help the player when he gets booed during a game, but you know what, he shouldnt be in that position in the first place, so what is really the only way for fans to show their frustration with the crap that is out there, its by booing the player that sucks to make their point that he shouldnt be playing. Sucks for Wise, but thats how the game goes.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Im actually fine with the price tag, its even a little less than I thought Broncos would get. I thought they could probably get a 1 and 2 this year plus a 1 next year from some team (not necessarily the Bears.) Cutler is young but far more proven than any QB you could draft. When you think about how much teams have paid to get Vick or Eli, its really what the market has been set at. Giants gave 2004 1st and 3rd round, plus 2005 1st and 5th round, to move up 3 spots to select Manning at 1. The Falcons traded their 2001 1st (5th over all) and 3rd, along with 2002 2nd and Tim Dwight, to move from 5th to 1st. The Bears trade is about on par with this, especially when you consider that; 1) Bears first draft pick is significantly lower than top 5 (the other trades all included top 5 picks) and 2) Jay Cutler has already proven that he is a capable NFL starter. The value is good for the Bears, the Broncos had to give up a 3rd rounder just to trade up from 15 to 11 to get Cutler. I can remember when this whole rift started and I thought that the Broncos would be forced to trade Cutler. Glad it happened. Very solid points there.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) "Grinder ability" is an oxymoron. I really disagree with this. To me grinder means a player who goes all out, gives everything they can on a play. I see no harm in that. It can slightly better a player, but really the player has to have talent for it to do anything. My point is, a good player can be a grinder, and Ive seen it multiple times. Hell, I think of my playing days as being a grinder, and I was a four hitter who is 6 foot and weighs 230. I just ran as hard as I could, intimidated opponents if needed, ran into fences for catches. I would think of myself as lazy or uncaring if I didnt. Basically, being a grinder doesnt make you good, but it can help those who have talent.
  5. Dotel looking sick. Struck out the side.
  6. Thome GIDP with a decent grounder up the middle, but right into the shortstops hands who was playing for the DP.
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 02:20 AM) I have some minor quibbles with a few of his choices, but overall it is a well researched piece. Some picks like Contreras in the Acquired Starting rotation are questionable. I mean, Contreras has ton of talent but hasnt put up the those Cy Young Caliber numbers in a long enough period of time to earn that spot. Freddy deserves it more in my mind, but even then hes not a great pick becuase he was above average but not great here. Seems like a lot of the picks were based off the '05 run, which is cool, but not necessarily showing of how great the player was in their career, just in the postseason etc. I mean, Crede? Good player during those few years, but he didnt put up nearly the same, consistent, numbers as Minoso, who barely got in on the roster.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) ^ I agree with that line-up. Also, I dont care how well Richard is doing this ST, he is NOT a big league starter. He proved it last season, he'll get through 4 or 5 innings then blow-up. Every line-up adjusted after one AB. He's suited for long-relief out of the pen and that's it. Marquez > Richard. Hopefully Contreras can take that 4th spot quickly and Marquez can be #5 until Colon is ready/goes on the DL How do you know this? You havent even seen what Marquez brings versus MLB hitters, and have seen very little of Richard. Basically, youre judging "havent seen face MLB hitters at all" vs. "have seen a little bit vs. MLB hitters, but not alot" That doesnt seem very smart to me personally. I think both have decent upside, and yes, Richard may be best out of the bullpen. But, Scenario has mentioned how he actually has quite a deep repertoire and didnt use close to all of it in his call ups last season. So, who knows, maybe he becomes more comfortable with his pitches at the MLB level and shows that he has enough to keep hitters off balance for 6 or more innings. Meanwhile, Marquez hasnt even proven that he can pitch at the MLB level AT ALL. So how is he better? Its not like his stuff is electric, he has a good sinkerballer. If you dont care what Richard is doing in ST, fine, but you cant assume Marquez is going to do fine off his ST either then. Heck, he got beat up in AAA and at times AA last year, so what exactly makes him better?
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) That is actually an outstanding article.. Very nice read. ^^^^
  10. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 12:52 AM) Well I've seen enough of Brian Anderson to be able to say with conviction that I believe, with a full season of at-bats, that Anderson cannot do any better than 15 home runs, 60 rbi's, and a .235 average. At best. There's better centerfielders out there, and it's time to forget about Anderson. Anderson's nothing more than an outfield version of Cesar Izturis. How shall we get these "better" CFs? Im pretty sure that if we had enough talent to spare to fix the problem that KW wouldve done that already. Also, Brian has alot more power than 15 hrs over a season.
  11. QUOTE (rangercal @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) OK , Who wants to bring torches to halas hall? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/140554-...ng-and-2-drafts You forgot to quote the "satire" part that is above the article on the website.
  12. I would like to see Egbert and Marquez at the MLB level, atleast see what they can do. But they seem to be very similar in terms of stuff (mainly the sinkerball). Carrasco was great for us last year, but I think it was just a hot streak sort of thing for him. Wasserman needs to prove that he can get guys out again before he makes the team, and Russell has just been a disappointment (which sucks because he has my name ) MacD may be good in nonpressure situations again, but you never really know if hes gonna throw up walks or strikeouts.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) He's had a good spring, surprisingly. Strikeouts maybe? (I am guessing without looking it up) Holds?

    Spring Break

New Orleans with a school group working for Habitat for Humanity, only working 4 days so we get about a day and half free time in NO and all nights are open. I cant freakin wait, its about to be a blast and actually something meaningful, plus Ive never been there and I love to travel. Basically a perfect fit for me.
  15. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 02:55 AM) I think Chris Williams' worth is tied to how much bonus money he has already received from the Bears... if the Bears have given him a big chunk of his 10 mil guaranteed -- then I think he's really valuable to another team. If you can get a young OT prospect like Williams and you don't have to guarantee him that much... thats gravy. However, i'm not sure how much he made via signing bonus, roster bonus etc... That sounds pretty good to me... I'd do it in a heartbeat. Fair enough on the first account. And agreed on the second.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) I'd start by offering Orton, a 2nd round pick, and Chris Williams. That's a heck of a lowball though, and the offer would only increase from their. Were this the case though the choice would be to ether sign Pace or just hope like hell Oher is still available in the draft. Orton is worth a bit to the Broncos as I believe he fits their QB mold, but they could be looking just to draft which makes him useless to them in that scenario. They will ask for much more than just a second round pick. Williams with his injury has much more value to the Bears than any other team, trading him now is trading him at a very low point IMO.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) And what I'm saying is that we've had one of the worst CF situations in all of baseball the last 3 years. And our only options currently are Jerry Owens, Dewayne Wise and Brian Anderson. So that right there, regardless of the fact that Jerry Owens hasn't lived up to the "hype", is why the trade can be deemed a bad one. But thats not what HE is saying. He is saying that YOUNG hasnt lived up to his potential yet, and has been over hyped thus far. YOURE saying that the Sox would be better off with him. Both sides are probably true, but youre not arguing what he is trying to say.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) So players are peaking at 25 now? Hes saying that so far Young hasnt lived up to the hype, and to tell him when he does, but so far he hasnt. I think thats pretty simple.
  19. Looks like Kroeger shaken up on a foul tip, not exactly sure where, but somewhere on his leg. He is taking awhile to recover.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) College and career come down to two basic, but very important choices. Are you the type that want's to "love your work" or are you the type that "wants to make money"? I say this because, more often than not, the two do not mix. If you can be one of the few that finds that kind of lightning in a bottle, more power to ya, but throughout my career I've found that usually doesn't happen. A lot of people toss around the words, "I love my job", but in reality, they don't...they merely claim to love it. If you loved your job, you wouldn't care what money you made, you wouldn't b**** about raises, bonuses, etc. I don't charge my family/friends to hang out, I do that for free, because I love them. I'd never *EVER* do that for my job, regardless of circumstance. I do that to get paid. Period. I know some will disagree with my point of view on this, as is their right, but this is the way I see it. I live by the philosophy that I work to live, not live to work. I like my job, because I work on computers/information systems, and I've always loved computers, but I do not love my job. I have no room in my life to love my job. Love is reserved for family/friends. Those are my basic priorities. Again, if you can be one of the very few lucky ones, go for it...but if not, I'd recommend to working to live, not the other way around. I think you need to atleast like what you do though, otherwise the emotional toll of doing something you dislike or hate every single day will break you down. But I get what youre saying. Actually, I know a mechanic for Lotus who got into the field because he loved working on cars as a hobby, turns out he wishes that was still just his hobby, not his profession because now he lost his hobby to work. If that makes sense.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) I said this last week. People are going to HATE Wilson Betemit which is probably going to bother me because I love him. Why do you love him? Just curious.
  22. Im really impressed with the Illini coming back off a 22-10 loss and beating LSU to take the series. That shows the team is pretty sound mentally, IMO.
