This thread has no intention of undermining the scoring system of that game. The purpose of this thread is to keep track of the value of each SOX player as the season progresses. Bats: (Incremental hit values) Hits: 1B=10, 2B=20, 3B=30, HR=50 Hits-Ron: 5 pts for each base + BONUS 5 pts for run scored Non-Hits: 1B=5, Non-Hits-Ron: 2 pts for each base earned + BONUS 3 pts for run scored This system places a value on BOTH the quality of the AB & the effect it has on RON. Non-hits addresses the impact of sacrifices, fielder's choice, errors, etc. Basically if you move a runner over in a non-hit AB you should get some credit for making someone make a play on the ball. Runner: SB: 2B=10, 3B=15, RS=20, -5 pts for each CS (RS=Run Stolen) FP: 2 pts for each base earned in the field of play This system rewards some value for smart base running during the field of play. It's much harder to steal home than 3rd & 3rd than 2nd. Hence the increments. Arms: Evaluation of pitchers will be based on evaluation of opposing team's hitters. That total for each pitcher will then be divided by innings pitched. The pitcher with the least point value is the arm of the

  8. Half price Tues was the 2nd biggest draw of the week: Tues: 22.4 Wed: 18.2 Thu: 14.4 Fri: 21.1 Sat: 25 Sun: 19.9 We need 1/2 price nights. We probably need more of them. But we need effective policies in place to make them more family-friendly. 1) No less than $100.00 fines for any fan throwing anything on the field (including baseballs). 2) No less than $100.00 fine for any fan involved in any altercation. Needless to say the team & the city must be making a considerable profit in concessions, parking, & bevs on 1/2 price night because there is no talk of getting rid of them. So this is a problem that will most likely be curbed over time with effective policies. Fans are guests of the SOX & that gives the SOX the right to impose fine for improper behavior.
  9. Let me state this again. There is no oil shortage today. Scientists have taken into consideration the probability of new reserves being found. The math & science leads to 2010 as the magic date. That's the year that demand for oil in the world will exceed supply. At that time supply will diminish each year while demand continues to grow. Six years is not a lot of time & effective policies need to come into place now. Some people have weighed in that public transportation doesn't meet their needs. A VIN based tax would allow them to continue commuting without added penalty. Everything you mention about alternative fuel sources, & hybrids would work well under a VIN based tax on gasoline consumption. More importantly it would send a strong message to the rest of the world that the USA is serious about saving the environment. Did you see The Day After Tomorrow? The science is real but Emmerich fictionalizes the time table between events. Instead of them taking years or decades they take only hours. But you know something, Emmerich needed to just add a few surprise events to speed everything up. Like maybe a meteor shower over the polar ice cap in the North. Sufficient enough to quickly melt the land based ice. Then he could add several years between that event & the slowdown of the thermohaline conveyor which is what keeps us from an ice age. The message of the film should have been that nasty weather due to abrupt climate changes is a serious problem that should be assessed in a worst case scenario mindset. That's what the Pentagon report states. Worst case means, assume factors beyond man's control (terrorism, astral events, etc) that accelerate abrupt climate changes.

  12. The scientific community has weighed in on the matter. By 2010 the world's demand will exceed the world's supply. We can't remain on this gluttonous road forever. Yes I want oil taxed in accordance with fuel efficiency. Less efficient vehicles should be taxed more to slow the demand in America.
  13. Any body watching CLTV? He mentioned that Berman from ESPN called SOX fans the worst in baseball. I take exception to that because it's definitely unfair in a city that houses 2 teams 8 miles apart. I still believe that the worst incident to occur in recent times at any park was when Dodger players went into the stands in Wrigley to enact retribution. That demonstrates how annoying cub fans can be.
  14. I'm not entirely against judges being appointed but I am against their term exceeding that of the elected official who appointed them. I think with the large volume of qualified legal persons in this country today this is long out-dated practice. I think that should apply at every level.
  15. Do you think they are all liberal? Even the traditionally conservative schools?
  16. I can clear that up for you. There are no visible signs of the refineries keeping up with demand. They are more efficient today than they were in 5 yrs ago. However; their location does increase the cost of transporting the oil from the mid-east & sooner than later demand in the US will exceed the util of the refineries. So if nothing is done we will both exceed the refinery demand & have a higher cost to transport & process the oil. Short term, it's a rouse by the oil companies to get $2.30 a gallon. Long term it's a serious problem.
  17. Reaching your 37th B-day you should not see yourself as old. If you keep good health you're likely to live another fine 37 yrs and then some. Here's to your good health Of course there's also a chance you'll swap for a new body ala Virtuosity & live as long as you want in an ageless body. Let's drink to that as well
  18. Where are you guys coming off painting these cub fans as choir boys? They're anything but that! I don't know if you saw it but when Texas hit the HR these obnoxious asses would not let up with the throw it back stuff. The guy turned around eventually gave them the finger but the rest of us were getting angry as well. If they hadn't shut up I think some of us would have gone up there & beaten the crap out of them. I know it's not brotherly love but damn it when it gets so bad it threatens my enjoyment of the game something has to be done! The washroom experience didn't have much love either. Fans decked out in Wood jerseys trashing the SOX openly. There wasn't one fight I saw & God knows there were plenty where a cub fan didn't instigate it with his bull s*** at the top of his lungs.
  19. It's too vague for druken cub fans to understand
  20. If we did away with 1/2 price nights it could get ugly in attendance. It's about 30 games I think betw Mon & Tues & it pulls in about 10000 more fans. That's 300000 less fans to the park. Maybe some of that would be made up with a better experience but I doubt it . Especially with the media bias here. How about this? Instead of opening 1/2 price nights to the general public why not offer them for ticket purchases of other games? The code to purchase on ticket master would then be a previous ticket's UPC or you can purchase it at full price & mail in a previous ticket stub for a rebate.
  21. It's been a long night & I need to hit the sack. Overall everyone agreed in the large group that the most annoying thing tonight was the "throw it back" culture. It's so disrespectful of SOX culture & perhaps that's what ignited the anger towards fights. They were chanting it both for HR & foul balls. It's that part of Cub culture I think most SOX fans can't stand. We all stood up & sang "take me out to the ballgame" but we like the "God Bless America" as well. I think it's not a bad idea to do both during the 7th inning stretch just so we aren't Cub like. I know they stole it from us, but they turned it into a celebrity gig so more people think of the Cub when they here it. Would it be so bad to put up signs saying "This isn't Wrigley. We don't throw balls back on the field?" Or perhaps even better, why not put up a rule that if you do throw a ball back you will be escorted from the park?
  22. Let's keep in mind that the fights occur at Wrigley as well. I've been too the shrine enough in the bleachers area to know. Bleacher bums get rowdy in both parks. It's definitely instigated by cub fans talking trash. There was a group in front of us but I think because of the kids they both toned it down & began to root for SOX players. But before then they were listening to the cubs on the radio & cheering the Rangers. I don't know how many times we had to say "down in front" but it was often enough. It's a tough issue to deal with. There were 9600 walkups today & w/out them the SOX might have drawn only 15000. I think we all agree the 9600 make it a better experience with a larger crowd. So maybe the answer is Cub profiling. If you see young adults dressed in cub attire notify security of their seat number & assign someone for specifically that general area so that if things begin to get rowdy they should be immediately asked to leave. Of the 9600 walkups less than 1% of that crowd is problematic. Profiling seems like it would help a lot. Where my group was sitting it was obvious many of them arrived buzzed.
  23. Believe it or not but the fighting was not really talked about after the game. What was talked about was the neighborhood. I don't share their sentiments but I do agree that this is the worst part of the new stadium arrangement. To enter parking you have to drive alongside low public housing & to exit the park you have to drive beyond factories. In both cases it simply doesn't have the aethetic feel of being a safe hood. This is the gentrification argument. Despite there being cops everywhere the area around the parking lots looks very low income or shady like. That's a far cry from the 600K houses surrounding Wrigley. Maybe they can spend a million or so to gentrify the neighborhood. I asked the question what about ivy fencing? Instead of driving through the back alley of factories what if the factories were out of sight & all you saw was ivy? Overall the group seemed to like the Idea. Another even suggested growing more than just ivy so that CHICAGO WHITE SOX could be spelled out. Most in the group felt that the exit had a worse feel than entering down Pershing, but some felt the Pershing entrance had a cheap feel to it. You pass a Baptist Church, low income housing, & a, small high school before getting to the lots. With the cops around it's not about feeling safe but rather feeling like you are in a low rent district. I was thinking that both the neighborhood & the SOX would be better off by making 35 the main parking entrance & then build a SOX lane that goes around the main lots alongside the tracks. This would provide entrances to all lots (both red & green) & the later lots. Now upon entering the stadium lots the fans would be fixed upon the granduer of the stadium & the many fans going to the game. Low rent would be pretty far from their minds.
  24. I just got back from my biggest SOX outing in years. Our group might it enjoyable but there was some bad seeds were they sit. The Cub presence was there tonight. In the stalls, on the concourse, & in the outfield. Everything from cub hats to wood jerseys were present. This inevitably led to some fights & what is disturbing more than the hooligans are the 100's of people that egg the fights on. Even that didn't bother us as much as the cub fans sitting around us rooting hard for the Rangers. That bothers us & I imagine that was the instigation for the fights. These are clearly the bleacher bums who frequent Wrigley. A guy caught a home run ball from Texas not to far from us & you can only imagine the pressure he got from Cub culture to throw it back. That's never been a part of sportsmanship by fans & it's never been a part of SOX fandom. But these bleacher bums were relentless & that leads to swearing & finger gestures. I had 2 kids with me tonight & I was glad it happened at times they weren't looking. I don't know if anything can be done, but I'm inclined to think that maybe 1/2 price tickets should be offered via ticketmaster only. That would prevent the spur of the moment N siders from walking up to the ball park. ================================ There was a lot of good at the game tonight. The SOX have really improved the LED screens & they are electric to watch. I like the way they make the players bigger than life & help rally the crowd into loud cheering. To bad OH WE OH lets us down so often. But the kids really get into it, & they do pay attention & even eye the pitch count. The kids really love the jumbotron races & the fact that the SOX have the caps, frogs, jets, & frogs, & pizzas makes it a very enjoyable experience for them. When a kid has that much fan at a game & the team loses you know you're doing something right. =========================== I'm really running out of suggestions, but this team does not really need the revenue from the added attendance as much as it needs the publicity or media presence from it. The attendance was nearly 23000, & lots up to F were filled. That's like 4000 cars & at $16 a pop that's a pretty good rev supply. About all I can really suggest is that the SOX should offer a family discount price for weekday games in the upperdeck. Now that the SOX have created a premium upper deck section & upper deck reserved offering a special bargain for families would really help in attendance, attract the right crowd, & maybe build a bigger future base. I'm thinking along the lines of $1 tickets for kids for most weekday games in the upper deck reserved section. If that doesn't draw them, nothing will. Including parking coupons for orders of 3 or more tickets might help as well. A 12 person group tonight cost about $350 after tickets, parking, & concessions. So every little bit helps.
  25. As much as I don't want to admit it you have a good point. Because of the Cubune we may have to overpay for Maggs simply to save face in the PR war. The SOX would be ok to lose him, but not to the Chubs. Any other signing would pale in comparison to that news. I was already upset after Monday's short-sightedness by the Cubune. They gave the Chubs twice as much space on the front page, 5 times as much space inside. The only thing that was even were the Box score columns. But then I thought about it. Kenny will not let him go for nothing. That's not the Kenny way. If he doesn't think he's signable he'll work a deal to get an Everett type player in exchange for Maggs for the stretch drive. That trade would be dependant on the other team's ability to sign him. It won't be the Chubs. Last I read, KW offered 58/4 = (14.5/yr). I think 65/5 is the max the SOX will go.
