http://www.baseball-almanac.com/pitching/piperf.shtml This is an interesting list because it includes un-official perfect games as well. Either because the game was shortened or went into extra innings. The official-list: (17) (all-time) Randy Johnson Cy Young Addie Joss Charlie Robertson Don Larsen Catfish Hunter Len Barker Mike Witt Kenny Rogers David Wells David Cone Lee Richmond John Ward Jim Bunning Sandy Koufax Tom Browning Dennis Martinez The un-official list: Broken Up In Extra Innings (2) Harvey Haddix Pedro Martinez Less Than Nine Innings (4) Rube Vickers Dean Chance Ed Karger David Palmer Several pitchers have taken no-hitters & perfect games into the 7th. Some did it last night. So I don't think they should be included. The extra innings guys probably deserve to be included.

This is what I've found so far: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ance&vi=reviews More than 150,000 major league games have been played in the modern era, Coffey (The Irish in America, etc., and PW's senior managing editor) tells us in this marvelous book, but only 14 have been "perfect games." A game is perfect when "a pitcher pitches at least nine innings of a complete game victory and allows not a single runner to reach first base." The 14 men who have thrown perfect gamesâ€"from Cy Young in 1904 to David Cone in 1999â€"provide the focus for Coffey's lively history. But it takes more than a pitcher to create a perfect game: superb fielding plays a part, as necessarily does some winning-team offense, and Coffey elucidates these factors in his colorful game-by-game commentary. More notably, Coffey, like other great baseball writers (Angell, Kahn), realizes that the sport, despite its embrace of eternity (in theory a baseball game can last forever) and inward gaze (all runs are scored at home plate), is played within the larger context of players' lives and the ever-evolving socioeconomic climate. So Coffey frames each pitcher's life and perfect game within the larger picture. Addie Joss's 1908 gem, for instance, occurred inside a sport that, like America, was transforming from rude ruralism to greater urbanity. Sandy Koufax's 1965 featâ€"perhaps the most perfect of perfect games, as Koufax struck out 14 and triumphed despite his team recording only one hitâ€"is configured against the changing economics of the sport, driven by new media revenues. Throughout the book, baseball holds the center, with each remarkable game springing to roaring life via Coffey's diligent research and vivid prose (Coffey is a poet as well as journalist: 87 North, etc.). The rarest achievement in baseball has here gained a rare companion: a brilliant book that's about baseball but also about life, one told with such care and passion that it, too, gives a glimpse of perfection. This was published on April 6, 2004 so Randy's performance makes it 15.
-
You are correct. The short list of 4 applies to pitchers with no-hitters in both leagues. Not perfect games. Randy's no-hitter in Seattle was less than perfect: 7 walks. Does any one have a link to the perfect games list?

:fyou oil companies! This is the biggest open range of BS I've ever heard. Supply is actually greater then it's ever been. Check out the DISCOVER mag site & check out some of the articles on supply. GW2 has not once demonstrated a single threat to an oil supply. The refinery argument is garbage. I looked that up. If that was the case than the refineries would be at 100% util or there would be delays in delivery. Neither case is happening. This is all about the oil companies (& their buddies in OPEC) using any pc of news to jack the price. In 2010 demand will exceed supply. That's a certain based on the growth of oil usage around the world. When that happens nations will go to war over supplies if it's still the worlds #1 source for energy. It's not all about automobiles. Many nations use oil & gas to provide electricity as well. But that's 6 yrs away & the US is likely to be less dependant when that time occurs. The bottom line is this: EXXON-Mobil had a 21 BILLION profit in 2003. That didn't come from any new advances in production or distribution of oil & gas. It came from jacking prices. Most states have flat oil taxes but % based sales taxes. You pay both when filing up. That's the short-term gain. The long-term gain comes from price inflation which eventually follows jacked up prices. The govt is part of the problem. If they want to gauge the American people at the pump that's one thing. But to do it to the industries that provide the transportation of goods in America is quite another. Why don't they do something to stem the tide of inflation?

In case you've been asleep the last 24 hrs let me fill you in. Randy Johnson pitched a perfect game Tues night in ATL. Mark the day: May 18, 2004. In doing so he joined a new very exclusive list: no-hitter games in both leagues since 1900. Cy Young, Nolan Ryan, & Nomo are the only other members. But more importantly he's closing in on the ultimate dominator stat: Number of double digit strike out games. He's now at 195 & trails Ryan by 20. If not this year he will in all probability eclipse Ryan in 2005. As SOX fans we are well aware of how difficult it is for any pitcher to have double digit strike out games. To say it's a rare event is an understatement. To have better than 215 in one's career is one the greatest wonders of the world. A phenom in which there is no youngster in sight of such a feat. A double digit strikeout game for a starting pitcher is as equally as difficult as having 20+ rebounds in an NBA game or a near shutout as a goalie in the NHL or 3 sacks in a game in the NFL. That's why when it's all said & done I believe Randy deserves a special place in the HOF as the dominator. He might not be the best ever, but certainly he is the most dominating. What's even more incredible about Randy Johnson is how he's done it. In 1990 he threw a perfect game for the M's on basically 2 pitches: heater & slider. In 2004 he threw a perfect game for the D'backs on 4 pitchers: heater, slider, breaking ball, & splitter. His evolution in 14 yrs is now at age 40 is the closest thing in the league to being unhittable. Are there other pefect games or no hitters in store for 2004? Who knows. With a range of speeds betw 84 (breaking ball) & 98 (heater) the only way a heater is likely to get a hit is by mistake or by chance (guessing where to swing). I hope that ESPN has the sense to televise more of his starts because when he retires the league will surely feel the void.

I was debating this with a few people over the weekend & the consensus was that America would look better to the world if they used drugs & alcohol rather than torture. However other options surfaced so I listed them all. The thing about drugs & alcohol is that they work much faster with injection than drinking. They have proven over the years to relax people to a state where they want to tell that which weighs heavy on their mind. There's no question that in an interogation sense that would be information that the US is seeking. In addition if you are able to create an addiction you have an effective form of control to get what you want & when you get it you can force the prisoner through withdrawal to end the addiction. It's unlikely the doping process itself would be caught digitally so the worst media exposure would be the physical signs of being in that state. Still very much alive, probably looking happy. A far cry from what we've seen in the past month. You can always say you administered the drugs to ease the prisoners suffering.

When you develop a system of government that endoctrinates 300 million souls in America to uphold the standards we define let me know. Until then just accept the fact that our's is the most humane system on the planet to govern 300 million souls & we are doing the best we can. Free Speech. I forget to mention the main reasons for the 2nd amendment. There are primarily 3: 1) Protect oneself from crime 2) Protect oneself from tyranny 3) Provide for the national defense The first is obvious. Someone tries to break into your home has a gun so your ability to use a gun equalizes the threat. The assumption is that a criminal with a gun intends to use it. Calling 911 is useless in that scenario. The second one is all about the governments power to enact martial law. The definition of what constitutes an emergency that would suspend government as we know is to loose & open to interpretation. This opens the door to tyranny at the hands of our own government. Nothing curbs tyranny better than an armed citizenry. The final one is probably the most important one & as such has had many books written on it dating back to the history of this country. The regimes of Hitler, Stalin, & Mao Tse Tung have all weighed in on this aspect of America. The consensus was & remains one of containment. The fire-power in possession by America's gangs, militias, national guard, & citizenry make an invasion all but impossible. The loss of life encurred by any power of aggression would weaken it beyond it's ability to sustain itself. I can recommend some books on the subject if you like. Perhaps our greatest freedom though it comes with a great cost of life (11K+ deaths a yr) is also our greatest strength.

You hear what you want to hear. But being proud of shock & awe & being in favor of the war are two entirely different things. If you search back to my earliest post on the subject I clearly objected to the war on the basis of cost. My estimate was near 300 billion at the time. Though I was not considering a 10 yr effort. God only knows what the final figure will be now at an avg cost of 25 billion a month. Further more I wrote many posts clearly depicting the admin estimates as being two low. Look them up if you are in doubt. This is a clear case where maybe you can distinguish supporting the troops (their execution of shock & awe) & supporting the war. Today I advocate a position that differs from both admin: pull back & re-inforce the Kurdish rebellion. Let the Shias, Shiites, & Kurds (all Iraqis) decide on their own terms the direction of Iraq. Back the one that is most friendly to the US (Kurds). Neither the GOP nor the Dems are willing to do that. Finally it's not just a matter of your misunderstanding or distorting facts on this issue, but why is it so important to you to fabricate the past? Why is it more important for you to imagine what someone said than what someone is saying? I'll never understand why such petty matters are so important to you & people I've known like you. It's like all you care about is pettiness.

I've recently seen Moore's movie & apparently Moore believes strongly in the 2nd amendment but as equally strong that there should be a law making it illegal to store loaded guns. Some advocated that the murders were driven by M Manson lyrics. Moore did cover this but he didn't mention the important issue: addiction. He simply covered it in a context in which he implied Clinton's bombings in Kosovo were as much to blame as Manson lyrics. No where in his movie did he ever discuss the estimated time these thugs listened to that music. If he had done that than the argument that the lyrics helped push the thugs in that direction is made a lot stronger. To say they were addicted to the music is an understatement. But this is consistently Moore's way. Blame everything but the culture in America. When comparing the raw murder statistics in the G7 to that in the US, he never bothered to frame it in a context of metropolitan areas. No Moore would never want to compare Paris to LA. He'd rather compare a nation of 270+ million citizens & some 30 million non citizens to a country that doesn't even compare with the total population of 1 state: NY. Likewise he never once mentioned the impact of organized crime in America vs the other G7 nations. You simply had to see Gangs of NY to understand that a country founded by immigrants is not going to peacefully co-exist. It is the melting-pot characteristic of America that makes it the most violent. Every ethnic group has it's own gang institutions. Moore never bothered to list the estimated numbers of gang members in America. It's in the millions. In fact the estimate dwarfs the entire population of Canada itself. Nor did Moore bother to discuss the prison system in America. There are more inmates in America than most major cities in the G7. What bothers me the most is that America has come a LONG way from the Gangs of NY days. But in the bigger picture it doesn't matter because with new immigrants & more dominant groups the cycle never ends. Organize crime grows proportionately with the influx of immigrants. During the G of NY days it was European ethnic groups that waged war. Now it's asian, russian, hispanic, & every other major immigration group coming to America. Every group has it's good & bad. Moore didn't spend 1 second of film discussing this. The one redeeming value of which I agree with Moore is that the gun industry should be more regulated than it is today. The marketplace is moving in that direction. Guns will soon be designed to work only with the gun owner. This will provide responsible parents an alternative to keeping the guns out of the hands of children. But for Moore to ignore the culture that is own industry inspires with the fascination of guns in hollywood pictures is hypocrisy. He destroys his own credibility by not attacking all angles of the problem. The truth is that techno-kids will figure out a way to get around any design that prevents their usage of guns. Electronics are always hackable. Without education to change the culture it's an interim solution at best.

Update: It is indeed become major. In the month of May there have been two mortar attacks with chemical agents. One was mustard gas (May 2nd) & the other Sarin nerve gas. It's been confirmed that at least 3 litres we're found in the mortar shells. Call it devine intervention or radical stupidity but we we're lucky that the agents did not mix. If that had happened this could have killed 1000's. I think an attack of that nature upgrades this from minor to major. ====================== With respect to refineries you have a point but that point still doesn't explain why prices are higher when supply has not been threatened. I do not recall any of the refineries in the Gulf (which supply over 50% of the gas supply to the US) being under attack. On the contrary those refineries have been modernized over the years to where they now can produce outputs that are twice of that during GW1. Part of the output supply is the expansion & growth of off-shore drilling in the Gulf. The Gulf of Mexico that is. After the GoM the next biggest refinery pot in America is the midwest around Chicago. When you mention the environmentalists I am a moderate one. I believe govt as an obligation to protect the environment but I realize that progress is the best way to get there. So I am not in favor of banning much needed refineries but the real issue is slowing gasoline usage. The best way to do that is to implement a progressive tax system based on usage. There are two ways to pay for gas for the avg consumer: cash or credit. A progressive tax on credit purchases is easy to implement. For every 50 dollar increment of gas purchases an additional tax would be assessed. Even if this leads to more cash purchases stations are not designed to handle such an increased load so that will likely lead to delays & still slow consumption of gas. Why $50? Because cars with good HP can be bought with a 25 mpg. This includes Minivans. At $2 a gal that provides 625 mi per month. If you need to drive more than 625 mi per month & you're not a trucker then car pool.

For the record I was against the war. I knew it would cost in excess of 300 billion before shock & awe. But I never bought into the ridiculous argument that Iraq did not have WMD's given that there was clear evidence that they did in the 80's & 90's. The UN inspections did not uncover enough supplies to lead to the logical conclusion that they got it all. What the war has shown us is that our intelligence is crap. Why would you expect it to be any better in the hunt for WMD's? Applying logic to the facts at hand leads to one common sense conclusion: there are left-over WMDs in Iraq & Bush was stupid for not going in sooner to prevent them from going to Syria. It is not difficult to move chem&bio WMDs to Syria in a 3 month time period. That's the time Bush gave Saddam when he started putting the real pressure on. This also illustrates the fallacy of coalition bldg & the need for UN support. Every day you spend in publicly acknowledging your desire to remove a tyrant gives that tryant a day to prepare for your attack. The more prepared the enemy the more casualties you will have. But before you take one step towards war ALWAYS know the WORST case scenario of what it will cost. Either the Bush admin was too stupid in that assessment or too wicked in their desire to ignore it or a little bit of both. To this day I do not believe the benefits to America were worth the cost of the war. There is absolutely no excuse that gas prices are exceeding GW1 prices when Saddam set the wells on fire. Bush's failure to act on this clear exploitation by American oil companies might cost him the election.
-
This has to be the worst argument I've ever heard in defending regulation of a democracy. Do you really believe that rule of law would prevent a population of 150 million (the majority in America) from exterminating the other groups if that was trully the majority opinion? Do you have any idea the behavioral science factors that would play a role in such an opinion? It is silly to even make such an argument in defending the right to ignore 66% of Americans weighing in against gay marriages.

As long as one keeps their fantasies in check w/in their own mind his paraphilia remains private & they do not become harmful to children. Frequent exposure to porn grays the distinction between what is fantasy & what is real. It's common sense to understand that the more time one spends on an addiction the more real that addiction will become in their life. That's true for any addiction including drugs or media exposure. Likewise exposure to porn at an early age (as the survey suggests) can put the idea of pedophilia into the minds of those who might not otherwise be drawn to it w/out having the exposure to porn. Now given that most are falling around age 17 it's almost impossible to gather data to determine whether they showed traits of pedophilia before their exposure. So common sense needs to be applied here. Either way exposure to child-porn is not a good thing. I hope most of you can agree on that. Of course there is the other real measureable argument dealing with supply & demand. The greater the demand for child-porn the harder it is to curb the supply. Addiction is addiction whether it come through a needle or a screen. One day I hope you will realize that anything you spend $ on is essentially a vote in support of that product or service.

Especially with the recent struggles by Politte & Marte in the BAL series. ========================================== SS(175/7=25)=40+60+0+40+0+25+10 CP=10 DM=37 ST(45/2=23)=25+20 WH(19)=9+10 JV(22)=2+22 MO(4)=2+2 FT(17)=7+5+5 CL(31)=7+24 SA=10 PK=2 JC=5 AR=50 ========================================== MINNESOTA 1ST -S Stewart singled to left. 10 -S Stewart stole second. 10 -C Guzman singled to left, S Stewart to third. 20 CHICAGO SOX 1ST -W Harris safe at first on error by shortstop C Guzman. 5 -J Valentin sacrificed to pitcher, W Harris to second. 2,2 -M Ordonez flied out to center, W Harris to third. 2,2 -F Thomas walked. 5 -C Lee hit by pitch, F Thomas to second. 7,2 MINNESOTA 2ND -J Jones singled to left. 10 -M Cuddyer walked. 5 -M LeCroy singled to right, M Cuddyer to third. 20 -L Rivas reached on infield single to second, M Cuddyer scored, M LeCroy to second. 25 CHICAGO SOX 2ND -S Alomar Jr singled to center.10 MINNESOTA 3RD CHICAGO SOX 3RD MINNESOTA 4TH -J Jones singled to left. 10 -J Jones stole second. 10 CHICAGO SOX 4TH -C Lee doubled to deep left. 20 -P Konerko grounded out to shortstop, C Lee to third. 2,2 -J Crede hit sacrifice fly to right, C Lee scored. 5,2 -A Rowand homered to right. 50 MINNESOTA 5TH CHICAGO SOX 5TH -J Valentin doubled to right. 20 -M Ordonez grounded out to shortstop, J Valentin to third. 2,2 -F Thomas walked.5 MINNESOTA 6TH -C Guzman singled to left. 10 -C Guzman to second on passed ball by S Alomar Jr. 10 -J Jones walked. 5 CHICAGO SOX 6TH MINNESOTA 7TH -L Rivas singled to center. 10 -C Politte relieved S Schoeneweis. -L Rivas stole second. 10 CHICAGO SOX 7TH -W Harris singled to left. 10 MINNESOTA 8TH -D Marte relieved C Politte. -D Mientkiewicz walked. 5 -T Hunter walked, D Mientkiewicz to second. 7,2 -J Jones singled to center, D Mientkiewicz scored, T Hunter to third. 35 -S Takatsu relieved D Marte. -L Ford reached on infield single to second, T Hunter scored, J Jones to second. 25 CHICAGO SOX 8TH -F Thomas walked. 5 MINNESOTA 9TH -S Stewart singled to right center. 10 -S Stewart stole second.10 CHICAGO SOX 9TH -A Rowand safe at first on throwing error by shortstop C Guzman. 5 -5 (caught stealing)

I assumed you were making pun just like NUKE CLEVELAND does. I'd prefer he change that to NUKE TWINKIES. But there are some on this board that might actually think it's a cool thing to drop nukes & I wanted to spell it out verbatim it's not. As for the topic at hand which appears to have shifted to GOP vs DEM & conservative vs liberal media I'll lend my two cents. Many of you spend too much time believing that one is good & the other is evil. The reality is that both are evil. There isn't an institution in existence that does not have it's good & evil parts. There never has been & there never will be. At least not as long as this planet is run by mankind. So when choosing between the two you simply choose between the lesser of two evils as they affect your individual life. The more open-minded you are the more you will seek information from both sides so that you have enough evil on both to compare them on a scale. Right now for being either too stupid or too wicked in his handling of Iraq I have a big :fyou to Rummy. Based on all the information I've read from both sides he simply failed to do all he could do in his job there. I personally think he's done a s***ty job & it goes to show you that no amount of higher education can prevent stupidity or wickedness from gaining power in America. I mean it's pretty much the same argument with Clinton & his scandals. After it's all been said or done you either say he was too wicked or too stupid. I tend to think Bill's more horny than wicked so I give him the stupid classification. My jury's out on Rummy. I'm leaning toward stupid but there's a lot to suggest too wicked so the best I can say is too wicked & too stupid. In either case I don't like wicked or stupid people controlling the life & death decisions of American service persons. Adios Rummy .. you deserve more than just a resignation. How about a nice kick in the pants?

http://cms.psychologytoday.com/conditions/pedophilia.html http://www.highbeam.com/library/doc0.asp?d...efid=ency_botnm http://www.mhamic.org/causes/causesbiblio.htm Not one of these links nor does the link quoted make any mention of the impact of media on pedophilia. Why you believe the absence of information constitutes a fact is beyond me. There are two parts to finding information on the net. First you need a general idea of subject that forms a basis to your argument & then you need to know how to find science facts (including polls, surveys, & studies) that support that basis. There are nearly 3000 links attesting to the relationship of child-porn & the spread of Pedophilia. Here are some of the better ones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3095271.stm Virtually all of the offenders (99) had collected child pornography. Almost a third of the offenders were students and a third lived at home with their parents or grandparents. The most common age of offending in the study's sample was 17. The DSM definition certainly lends credence to the belief that child porn is a primary factor. The Paraphilias are characterized by recurrent, intense, sexual urges, fantasies, or behaviors that involve unusual objects, activities, or situations and cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. The Paraphilias include Exhibitionism, Fetishism, Frotteurism, Pedophilia, Sexual Masochism, Sexual Sadism, Transvestic Fetishism, Voyeurism, and Paraphilia The paraphilic focus of Pedophilia involves sexual activity with a prepubescent child (generally age 13 years or younger). The individual with Pedophilia must be age 16 years or older and at least 5 years older than the child. For individuals in late adolescence with Pedophilia, no precise age difference is specified, and clinical judgment must be used; both the sexual maturity of the child and the age difference must be taken into account. ============================ First off this makes no reference to kids abusing kids in this manner which some studies have shown does lead to adult Pedophilia. So I do not agree with limiting the classification to 16+. Secondly the majority of Americans believe that Pedophilia should apply to minors (under the age of 18). The 13 age reference stems from a worldly opinion & not necc an American one. Thirdly what part of child porn differs from being a media source that caters to the definition of the Pedophilia Paraphilia?
