No he's NOT F'g RIGHT! If you want to say that WHEN Patterson gets ON he's a more valueable runner than Frank, well that's like the F'g most obvious statement in the world to make but fine. Dually noted. But if you're going to say that the TOTAL number of times Patterson has EARNED a base is more important than the TOTAL number of times Frank has then you're a F'g idiot. In 2003 FT was on-base 258 times. In 2002 FT was on-base 227 times. In 2003 CP was on-base 114 times. In 2002 CP was on-base 177 times. Now any one with a F'g brain can see the vast difference in those numbers & realize that's insane to even compare these 2 players. Reynold's don't expect a coaching job in the ML's any time soon. Dip s***!

Here to teach the moron Reynolds: predicted RPG = predicted runs/game of entire lineup of given player It takes into account all of the player's offensive statistics such as W (noting IW), HBP SB CS SH SF as well as the normal S D T and HR. I have to agree with the rest. He's got E coast written all over him. Pick one: NYY, BOS, or BAL. We have no shot at landing him & the fav to get him is NY. NY will like re-tool with Pedro & Beltran before 2005. The 2005 rotation will be : Brown, Pedro, Mussina, Vasquez, Lieber They will trade Contreras, Lofton/Williams with major cash incentives. There are always takers.

I think Magglio is distracted, we need to sign him
JUGGERNAUT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Last I heard, he was offered 58/4. That's better than 14 mil a yr. When I heard he rejected that I said goodbye. I don't care how much is deferred. Everybody accepts deferred $ these days. Manny's 20 mil is only real worth 16 mil/yr with deferred payments. Beltran is 3 yrs younger & right now is in the top 10 in the AL. When you factor both his speed & power if I'm going to overpay I'm going to do it on Beltran. I don't think we should commit $ now on Maggs when we don't know what Garland, E-LO, & SSchow will cost in 2005. By the break will have an idea but if we hope to compete in 2005 we need to bring back 2 of the 3. If 2 of the 3 win over 15 gms, we might be looking at 12-15 mil to bring them back. -

It's no surprise that Maggs leads in the bats, but it is surprising that with a 250 pt edge over Koney & Thomas he only had 6 BoGs. One more than Frank. Still Maggs had more games with some production than any other player. Miguel Olivo is the franchise player for the White Sox. Second only to the phenomenal Uribe in offensive production, his D skils are arguably the best in the game. In the first month alone he has 6 GoGs & it almost looks like this is a preview of things to come. We might start seeing some comparisons to I-ROD in his prime before to long.

Reynolds is an idiot. That's why he's know Sagarin. In the Sagarin ratings (something ALL fantasy leagues use) Thomas is ranked #2 with an RPG of 11.45. His HR today only helped his cause. Patterson is ranked 61st in the NL (5.06). Why is Reynolds an idiot? 1) He failed to consider how many times ANY BODY scores when a big bopper walks. 2) He failed to consider the wear factor on the pitcher when a big bopper has a 10 pitch walk. 3) He failed to consider how many times a big bopper walk moves a runner to 2nd. 4) He failed to consider that a big bopper walk brings another man to the plate.

Harold Reynolds is an idiot. He believes OBP is over-rated for the big boppers because of their slow speed. So what he did was look up the number of times they were on base vs their runs scored in 2003. In Thomas' case he said he scored 45 out of 200+ times. Giambi was slightly better. But here's the fallacy in his so-called logic. He didn't bother to look up the average pitch counts assoc with the walks. He didn't bother to look up wins vs walks. He didn't bother to look up any many times ANY BODY scores in an inning when a big bopper walks. He didn't bother to consider big bopper walks vs GIDP. I believe OBP is one of the most important stats in baseball because it leads to greater pressure on the opposing pitcher. It's what I consider the wear down factor. This is oblivious to someone like Reynolds but any one following this years SOX games can see this. If there is one on & Thomas works a 10 pitch walk, the next guy can drive in a run with just a hit. That's what Reynolds completely ignores & this is the what the big bopper walks produce around the league. The objective for any team against a starter is to get the starter out of the game as soon as possible. This usually increases the odds of the team with scoring against the reliever. Big bopper walks help obtain that objective. This is also why in the Sagarin ratings: #2 - Frank Thomas 11.45 Why is he #2? 16R, 20H, 5HR, 10RBI, 23W, 39TB, 63AB, 44OB

Bats: (Incremental hit values) Hits: 1B=10, 2B=20, 3B=30, HR=50 Hits-Ron: 5 pts for each base + BONUS 5 pts for run scored Non-Hits: 1B=5, Non-Hits-Ron: 2 pts for each base earned + BONUS 3 pts for run scored This system places a value on BOTH the quality of the AB & the effect it has on RON. Non-hits addresses the impact of sacrifices, fielder's choice, errors, etc. Basically if you move a runner over in a non-hit AB you should get some credit for making someone make a play on the ball. Runner: SB: 2B=10, 3B=15, RS=20, -5 pts for each CS (RS=Run Stolen) FP: 2 pts for each base earned in the field of play This system rewards some value for smart base running during the field of play. It's much harder to steal home than 3rd & 3rd than 2nd. Hence the increments. Arms: Evaluation of pitchers will be based on evaluation of opposing team's hitters. That total for each pitcher will then be divided by innings pitched. The pitcher with the least point value is the arm of the game.

http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/021sd4.htm 1-You want more bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. 2-You want ticket prices to be lowered — especially for upper-deck seats. 3-You want cheaper parking. 4-You want Metra service. 5-You want more family-oriented promotions. 6-You want a visible commitment from the owners that they care about you. 7-And you want Magglio re-signed. 1) Disagree. I don't think we need to have more bars & restaurants in what is still a low income housing neighborhood. What is needed is covered entertainment & food available before/after games near the park. I would be more in favor of a Taste of Chicago like atmosphere on home games than new bars & restaurant. I don't even think it is economically viable to even attempt permanent bars & restaurant in that hood. 2) I do not want ticket prices arbitrarily lowered. I think that is a mistake as many have advocated on other boards & threads. What I want is for the SOX to create a rebate program where a SOX ticket can be used to get $5 off a ticket for another game. I think this would go much further to building repeat business than cutting prices would go for building new business. People are drawn to good deals in any venue & this would be a good deal. 3) Parking right now represents a few thousand tickets sold ea. game. It doesn't count as attendance but it's a substantial part of revenue from SOX games. Again I don't agree with just slashing the prices, but I do agree with rebates. I can't stress this enough. You drive to the game in a car of 2 or 3 patrons. You pay the $16 & on the ticket it says redeemable for $5 off the next time. They you go to the game & it says the same thing on the tickets. Is that not going to make you feel better about the SOX? Will that not increase the likelihood of going to another game? 4) Metra service is a no-brainer. This is as much about convenience as it is about Metra montly passes. If you're paying $70-100/mo to commute to work via Metra & suddenly you can use that pass to get to/from The Cell you are more likely to frequent the ball park. Not to mention the time savings. It would probably be a 5min ride from LaSalle to The Cell. I'm a big advocate of this not just for The Cell but IIT as well. I think a Metra station at The Cell would have frequent ridership year round from IIT students, some of the private hgh schools in the area, some of the IIT research workers, & possibly some bridgeport residents as well. 5) More family-friendly promotions. Hmmm. I like 2 for 1 on Mom's day, & Fr's day, but I really think daily raffles would go further. This seems so simple to me for the SOX to do. Who has the best looking apparel line in MLB? The WHITE SOX. I don't care what the sales figures are, SOX apparel looks the best. So why not give fans the chance to win some of it at games. Again promotions build upon 1 another. Rebates for repeat parkers, rebates for repeat patrons, & now the chance to win SOX apparel at each game. Are you getting the picture? For a relatively low cost the SOX can give patrons such an emotional lift & feeling of wellness that the odds of them coming back would be great. 6) If they implemented 1-5 the fans would definitely know they care. 7) At what price? He's having a so-so year rate now. Probably still ranking in the top 50 but barely. In comparison Frank & Uribe are probably ranking in the top 20. Do we want a ShamME Sosa situation a few years down the road? He's barely in the top 70 right now! One thing FA has proven time & again. Bats for hire are FAR more plentiful than arms. Having learned that Pedro & Boston have broken off talks I would be very cautious if I were the SOX right now as to where I plan to allocate 14-15mil/yr. I think Maggs is worth 10-12mil/yr. Not a penny more. Keep in mind that the Yanks are trying to trade Giambi or Williams right now. That shows you how depreciation is hitting sluggers at the corners or OF. I think 7 should really address marquee players. Pedro or Maggs? Luis Gonalez will be avail from AZ. I'm just saying there are a lot of options to spend that kind of money on.

4/30 defensive challenge: Maggs or Wille? TORONTO 3RD -F Catalanotto reached on infield single to second. -C Delgado flied out to right. TORONTO 9TH -O Hudson hit by pitch. -C Woodward grounded into fielder's choice to second, O Hudson out at second. Maggs play on Delgado was made greater because of Willie's inability to make a play at second. I'm not saying that it was an easy play to make, but infield singles are rare enough to cause doubt. Likewise Wille's failure to gen a DP in the 9th could have hurt the SOX. Overall Maggs had better glove play than Willie, but Harris did have the web gem.

The big bop walkers of the league are really unsung heroes. This goes for Giambi & Bonds as well. Consider the value in pitch count of a Frank Thomas walk. Not only is it betw 8-10 pitches for Frank's ab, but it's usually a min of 4 pitches for the next ab his walk generates. So an 8 pitch walk is really worth about 12 in the pitch count. I think this is why the SOX are able to really battle back in late innings. Thomas not only does this against starters but he does it against the relief core as well. An 8-10 pitch walk against a reliever usually means he will face one less batter than he normally would. That doesn't show up in a scorer's table but it plays a big role in the game.

Frank won the POG by a thin margin (61-52) over Maggs. Some might argue that Maggs GOG honor should put him over the time, but I don't agree. Frank's production at the plate resulted in an RBI double & run scored in the big rally. Maggs homer ignited the rally. But Frank's long counts & walk before the rally helped make the rally possible. Frank rarely earns a walk from a 3-0 or 3-1 count. He usually battles for the walk & that means his walks typically take 10 pitches. Thomas & Koney ate 17 pitches from Hentgen in the 4th. Thomas earned the walk & Koney struck out. But that kind of wear & tear led to 2 hits in the 5th, followed by the big 6th. When margins are thin as to whom is deserving of the award these things are looked at.

Why does Wille Harris suck in the majors & excel in the minors? Why does Borchard struggle in the minors? What are the top 10 organzations in MLB they would like to find themselves playing for? Do they think the SOX will win a WS in their playing days? Do they hate the Cub? Do they hate the Cub minor league teams? What do they think of the steroid/supplement issue in MLB? Do they know of minor leaguers that use them? Any on the Cub team? Do they think Sosa is/was a steroid/homone freak? Which SOX players do they think are on something? Do they look forward to the day they play in the Cell? Are there other parks they are eager to play before? Is the media biased against them down there? Do they believe it's biased in Chicago? Bf, 4/27 is an even a closer call. I moved this post to where it's after 4/28. At least now the CLE games are back to back posts. Any ways here's my detailed explanation of why Marte over Cotts. In general I don't penalize pitches for situations beyond their control. I feel a WP is worse than a W because all RONs move when it happens. Likewise when a pitcher doesn't hold a runner on 2B that's worse than a SF. Normally the difficulty of stealing 3B warrants 15 pts, but I felt Neil was only 2/3rds to blame so I only charged him 10. CLEVELAND 7TH -O Vizquel singled to right. 10 JG=10 -N Cotts relieved J Garland. -O Vizquel to second on wild pitch by N Cotts. 10 -O Vizquel stole third. 10 NC=20 CLEVELAND 8TH -C Politte relieved N Cotts. -V Martinez homered to right. 50 -R Belliard singled to right. 10 -A Escobar walked, R Belliard to second. 7 CP=67 -D Marte relieved C Politte. -M Lawton walked, R Belliard to third, A Escobar to second. 9 -O Vizquel hit sacrifice fly to left, R Belliard scored. 10 DM=19 Cotts inherited RON 1, gave up a WP, & SB to 3rd. Then he got 3 outs. Marte inherited RON 1,2 gave up a W & SF. Then he got 2 more outs. Because there situations are different you have to make a theoretical judgement call. It is more likely that Cotts gives up a run in a RON 1,2 0 outs with his WP & SB combo then it is for Marte to give up a run in a RON 1, 0 outs with his W & FO combo.
