For all you ND fans wishing to celebrate this AMAZING come from behind victory against WSU: http://home.earthlink.net/~vegas68/nd.html BTW: WSU was ranked 31 in the Coaches poll, & received votes for the top 25 in the other polls. What though the odds be great or small Old Notre Dame will win over all, While her loyal sons are marching Onward to victory.

  14. Manuel supporters might not understand that, so: BOS David Ortiz : (226A, 734 OPS) vs LH, (307A, 1022 OPS) vs RH Do I hear the words NO-BRAINER echo'g through the empty chambers of those who support the mental midget known as Jerry Manuel? Or let me put it this way. How many times was Thomas intentionally walked in this series? Good managers know the numbers. <- trying to knock sense into you know who
  15. I've explained above why it was a very BAD call to wave Rowand home. You can't manage a MLB game like you are playing nintendo & following a cheat sheet. You have to be aware of the strength's & weaknesses of the team you are playing as well as your own. As for my knowing whether they practice, there is an old saying : Practice makes perfect or at least better The evidence is on the field after some 300+ games of Manuel's tenure. This team is consistently HORRIBLE year after year in acheiving SAC FLY's & preventing them.
  16. 09/02/03 v BOS : systemic Lee AB w RON 2,3 & 1 out. Lee hits into a DP. Why Manuel is partly to blame: The SOX are a team packed with HR hitters. HR hitters are typically FB hitters. They excel at hitting FB's. As such, the SOX as a team should practice routinely hitting FB's with a man on 3rd & less than 2 outs. It's not hard to do. You need the batter, a pitcher, a catcher & 3 OFs. This practices 2 VERY IMPORTANT areas of the game: 1) hitting the SAC FLY 2) preventing the SAC FLY Both of which the SOX have proven to be dismal this year in execution. You fault the manager when the talent level exists to excel in these areas. 09/03/03 v BOS: game day RON 1, 1 out. 4-4 tie. Why replace Thomas? You are facing the toughest hitting team in the AL. They have out-homered you in the series. Intelligence would tell you keep your best hitter in the game. Is Rowand fast enough to beat out a DP? No. The difference betw Rowand & Thomas is that Rowand has a quicker first step. If you were to race them both non-stop from 1B, Thomas would probably be a very close 2nd. This had reprecussions because now Harris was the only sub avail for CF. That came back to bite them in the 10th. Maggs hits a SHORT double, but KIM sends Rowand. RISKING THE 2ND OUT going to HOME in a tie BALL GAME is a F'G CARDINAL SIN! Every F'g person who has ever played the game knows this! You can easily tell by the hit that it was at best a SHORT DOUBLE. You risk the out when it is a LONG DOUBLE. Anybody want to bet how many games Manuel will effect the rest of the way?
  17. MANUEL Needs to GO !!! I know some of you still defend this mental midget but I'm sorry there is just too much evidence supporting the fact that he's NOT THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB! Manuel hired Kim & is therefore responsible for his decisions. In a 4-4 gm coming off a 2-1 loss Manuel BETTER DAMN WELL be in sync with Kim's job at 3B. YOU DO NOT SEND A RUNNER HOME FOR THE 2ND OUT UNLESS YOU ARE DAMN SURE HE'S GOING TO MAKE IT! When you look at this team's strengths & weaknesses & MANUEL's management of both, he's done a horrible job. They are in 1st place because despite Manuel's weakness to manage the team, the team's strengths based on individual play have been so strong that they have overcome the weaknesses. The SOX remaining schedule: 3 v CLE, 4 v MIN, 3 @ BOS, 3 @ MIN, 3 v NYY, 3 v KC, 4 @ KC Now if you think against these teams that the teams strengths alone will be able to win this division, you're either looney or a sCrUB fan. It's going to take good, sound, fundamental managing to help win against these teams. Now I'm not saying fire JM, but KW should certainly have a talk with him & lay down the law the rest of the way. If KW needs to be on a radio to JM during the game, so be it. But I want someone who has demonstrated better intelligence calling the shots.
  18. No update today, but I do have Manuel blunder comments to make: Now I'm not saying these blunders change the outcomes, but they certainly contributed to the defeats. Let's begin with last night. You are facing the toughest hitting lineup in AL with an average BP at best. YOU DO NOT TAKE OUT YOUR BEST HITTER for a pinch runner in a tie game! If Thomas remains in the game then Thomas at best gets to 3rd on Maggs double. There is no way Thomas is sent home. That leaves men on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Now this had a domino effect ... Rowand in for Thomas left Harris as the only sub in the 10th. YOU DO NOT RISK THE 2nd OUT on a short double to LF. Garciaparra is know for his dead on balls accuracy in making clutch throws. Now certainly, RON 2,3 w 1 out betters the SOX scoring chances than RON 3, 2 outs. This 2 blunders greatly contributed to the loss. They are not Manuel's per-se but he is ultimately the man in charge. Monday night: -A Rios grounded out to second, J Crede to third. -R Alomar hit by pitch. -S Williamson relieved B Lyon. -C Lee grounded into double play, second to shortstop to first, R Alomar out at second. Lee is not a baby any more! He should have approached this ab with only 1 thought in mind : SWING FOR THE FENCES! Now yes I give part of the blame to Manuel. With as many HR hitters there are on this team that should excel in hitting deep FB's to score the run for 3rd. This should be practiced routinely. It's called TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR TEAM'S STRENGTHS! The team weakness is obviously bunting. With the exception of both Alomar's it's an ill-conconceived attempt.
  19. Believe it or Not there was progress made with the KC loss. SOX:138GP:73W-65L: 163 - 73 - 66 = 24 = -4 on both teams. KCR:136GP:70W-66L: 163 - 70 - 65 = 28 MIN:138GP: 72W-66L: 163 - 72 - 65 = 26 Unfortunately, MIN made progess too.
