Does anybody know how to change the profiles? I've seen a random box come up twice since I've had it...probably a year or so by now...and the first time it did it, it asked me which profile I wanted to use. I thought I chose the right one, but apparently I didn't...or something... Anyways, it popped up again yesterday, and me, being dumb, wanted to see if the other profile still was in tact. It was, but now I have lost like all the bookmarks and links I had on the other profile. If it means anything...and I'm sure it does...I am still on the ancient Windows 98. Any help would be awesome.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) He is on the trading block from what I hear but I doubt we brng him back.... they wouldnt want Dye/Jose anyways prob want younger guys who are under contract for a longer time. The Brewers are probably a top starter away from being a contender this year, and you could probably find a platoon to play LF for the year.

"Tigers could be dark-horse contenders in '06"
witesoxfan replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
People worry about Thome's age, but compliments to Detroit for signing the friggin oldest players they possibly could. The point of retooling is to strengthen your team to where you can be a legit division and World Series contender...Detroit is not yet at that stage, but that is exactly what they are doing at this juncture. As of April 24th, the Tigers' two biggest offseason acquisitions will have combined ages of 79. Methinks Dombrowski needs to take a step down at some point and let someone else control of the team. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) I agree, but who would you say are the other two? Molina's right up there as well...those are probably the top 2 in my mind. The 3rd, in my mind, is probably anyone's guess. You can probably make arguments for Posada, Varitek, IRod, LoDuca, Matheny, Ausmus, and Miller...I'm going to personally go with Damian Miller on this one. So I will say 1t) AJP 1t) Bengie Molina 3) Damian Miller

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) Shingo may be headed back to Japan. And I'm surprised that no team has signed Richard Hidalgo yet. I remember wondering who would be a better signing last offseason between Dye and Hidalgo. I think there must be some steroid questions about him though. He owns a career .835 OPS but he stunk in a massive hitter's park last season after the harsher steroid testing and penalties were instituted. Maybe teams are scared off by this. If Hidalgo really didn't do roids, he could be the best signing of the offseason just because of how cheap he will be and the good probability that he will rebound in 2006. He could have a better season than Jock Jones and be much, much cheaper. He'd be a good low risk, high reward type free agent, but not much more. He's on a 2 year decline from a good 2003 season, having put up a .239 25 82 .301/.444/.745 in '04 between the Astros and Mets, and a .222 16 43 .289/.416/.705 in Texas, which as you mentioned, is an insane hitter's park. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Jose might have a better arm but that is it imo. The most important thing a catcher can do is handle a pitching staff and nobody does that better then Bengie. His offense is just an added bonus and it's a huge bonus at that. The guy can play, he's still a very solid catcher. AJ Pierzynski hates you. But I mean, is it seriously mere coincidence that all the Sox playoff starters*, and almost the entire bullpen had the best years of their career the first year AJP was here? I'm not sure it is. Garland went from being Jon to Judy, Contreras is no longer labeled a headcase and is now labeled as an ace in some parts, Hermanson looked secksi and pitched well too for a change...I find it hard that those are all coincidental. If anything...AJP is a top 3 handler, if you will, in the game. In Minnesota, San Francisco, and Chicago...but moreso in Minnesota and Chicago...he helped pitchers have great years. If it's happened pretty much his entire career, coincidence halts and it becomes more rule than coincidence. should edit this...FG didn't, but he pitched pretty well all-around, and he pitched much better than he did after the Sox acquired him in 04.

Hey Pale...you think the Steelers might be looking towards a QB convert, similar to Randle El, in the draft? Perhaps McNeal(although another team may take a look at him first), Smith, Shockley, or Robinson? Also...I'd be happy with the Bills picks. I think it's a pretty safe bet that if Ngata is there, the Bills will take him.

Looks like I am not the only one who views KC as more of a threat than Detroit. I thought I might be alone. -
Love 'em Addy. I would have probably had Maroney a little bit higher, but to each his own. I personally love Jacobs as the #4 QB...I just really like Jacobs a lot. I also like Byrd as high as you have him, as his Senior Bowl week was overall a very good one. Not much of an argument from me.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) For one i thought you were making fun of the spelling... therefore making fun of how you awlays say a course instead of... of course. Compile a list of pitchers that have had eras under four in five of the last six seasons ( first year he was brought up only had 93 and two thirds innings pitched). Also is that list make sure you find pitchers with over 200 innings pitched for five straight years. He has actually done so five straight years with over 210 innings pitched + he is a lefty. Only problem i would have with him is he is a severe fly ball pitcher. Way more so than garcia who also concerned me when we acquired him... he turned into a ground ball pitcher last year, thankfully, if not we would have had some problems. If barry zito is not consistent there isn't any body in the league that is. If we are not counting 2000...not sure if you are...Buehrle fits that category perfectly. And the only year he did put up an ERA over 4 was when he put up a 4.14 in 2003, a year in which he had one of the worst months of his career, putting up an 0-4 record with a 7.16 ERA and a 2.06 WHIP in May. Regardless...Buehrle is one of the few lefties in the game that can be considered more consistent than Zito...and that can be argued either way.

Ren and Stimpy and Salute your Shorts are probably the 2 greatest shows of all time...atleast of those that were on Nickelodeon. Pete and Pete was solid as hell too, but nothing can top Ren and Stimpy and Salute your Shorts. I still find myself singing "Happy Happy, Joy Joy" from R&S and the intro song to Salute your Shorts from time to time.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) Usually it involves a combination of Widger, Rogo, an inflatable swimming pool and lots of mayo. Oh that's perfectly normal, I have that dream every night. Except instead of Rogo, Valentin is there. All that's important is that Widger is there. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Haha Erin Andrews. Sideline reporter for ESPN. How many times is it that you've been asked that?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) But then again, you thought Ruben Sierra was a great pickup for the Twins, so who am I to argue with a mastermind GM like you? No-risk, any reward type moves can really only ever be good moves, and can never be bad moves. I liked the Ben Grieve minor league contract and spring training invitee...but odds are good he's AAA roster fodder all year long. I wasn't friggin skeeting in my pants over the move saying "OMGWTF!!1!!! TWINS SIGNED RUBEN SIERRA WE'RE f***ED!!1!!1"...it's a solid move that has no risk whatsoever involved. Regardless, I don't see how that's even relevant to this topic at all.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Most important month for each player, when the pressure is the highest: Dye - .311 .415 .444 .860 Abreu - .250 .395 .396 .791 Abreu is the better player, but they are fairly equal with their contract situations, as DBAH0 agreed above. But, you know what they say, you cant win the division in April, but you sure as hell can lose it...thus, I argue that is the most important month of the year. Dye - .175 .205/.313/.517 Abreu - .261 .371/.341/.712 Now I hope you see how unbelievably dumb your argument is...because quite frankly, it is. One player cannot control the destiny of a team, no matter what point of the season you are at. If, hypothetically, Abreu had a month where he put up .400 .500/.750/1.250, and the rest of his team hits .200 .240/.360/.600, how is the offense going to perform?

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) I do the futures ranks just so I can rank them and of you morons who just read NFLDraftcountdown and read Mel f***in Kiper all day will reject it and make posts like that. Scott Wright and Mel Kiper are probably the two most respected draft analysts in the friggin world. You wonder why people go to them and see what they have to say. You called everyone here a moron that follows NFL Draft Countdown and/or Mel Kiper...in doing so, you are insulting people who perhaps are either using one of their best sources for their information/trying to learn more about how to judge players. That's a little over the top, don't you think?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) No, KW gets a PITCHER back in the deal. Pitching implies that they are good. Gavin floyd is not good. KW said and stressed that he will not trade Jose Contreras except for top, top pitching. Floyd doesn't fit anywhere near that bill. Additionally, Dye and Abreu will put up fairly similar numbers this year, in different categories of course, but I expect their OPS' to be similar again. So basically you would be trading an above average right fielder with an awesome contract for a slightly above JD outfielder with a mediocre to bad contract. SO that's fairly even. So pretty much you are trading a number 1 starter for Gavin Floyd, which just isn't going to happen. KW also said in late November the Sox were pretty much done making moves for the rest of the offseason. Marte, Duque, Vizcaino, and Chris Young for Javier Vazquez and Rob Mackowiak later, KW proves how bad his poker face truly is. And truth be told, Gavin Floyd has hella good stuff...probably an adequate 2 or good 3 if he can find his control. The Sox as an organization basically stress control, and AJP and Cooper have helped turn Contreras, Garland, Politte, Hermanson, and Cotts into very solid pitchers due to that philosophy. KW also apparently likes Abreu...it's very understandable as to why. Defensively, he's basically the same as Jermaine Dye in RF with a more accurate arm, and he is an OB machine offensively, while also producing power, thus being about the perfect #3 hitter. Contreras's contract also ends after this season, and there will be no compensation from arbitration, due to being an international free agent. That trade makes a ton of sense from both team's standpoints...capitalize on both Contreras and Dye's values while they are at their highest, and get a top 15-20 hitter in the game along with a pitcher whose value is at his lowest, whereas Philly is unloading a bad contract, getting an adequate replacement in Dye, and bringing in the ace that Gillick is looking for. On paper, it's almost a no-brainer...but if you can somehow talk Philly into picking up some money from Abreu's contract, or somehow get them to include another pitching prospect, than it is almost a no brainer both on paper and in real life. I personally don't want the trade to happen, but love Abreu as a player...that is how much I dislike his contract. It resticts so many things financially that you have very little room to do much else if injuries were to occur.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) LOL. You can bet they went on mlbtraderumors or got it from somewhere that heard it from there or a message board. Anyway. This trade isn't going to happen. Not a chance. Um... Why not a chance? On paper, it makes sense for both teams...KW is getting pitching back in return, gets a player he loves, while taking on no money for this year and then figuring out finances for next year at some other time. His goal is to win another championship...I don't think he cares how he does it. And a lot of times...though not all times...bringing in fresh bodies who have not won a World Championship will help. I don't like the trade...but I'm not going to rule it out.
