  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Not to mention that Owens is a Left Fielder, right? So winning the Center Fielder Job seems kind of unlikely..... I think...not positive of course...that he played CF for the Barons this year. However, he is not a projected CF...projected more as a LFer or 4th OFer. If I'm wrong and he did play LF this year, someone obviously correct me.
  2. The top hitting prospect, the top pitching prospect, along with another very solid SP prospect, and they are 11th. Ya, that kind of says something about the depth in the minors I'd think.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) I feel like a win is a win, and that should carry the most weight. Does it really matter if you beat a team 3-1 or 10-4? In most of those formulas the 10-4 would yield a better result because the team would be +6 and not +2. So now if you do that to KC for a 3 games, you are now +18, but then you could lose 6 games by 2 runs (-12) and you would be 3-6, but have a positive RS/RA ratio of +6. Here would be the order of teams with the flawed system of Pythagenport. AL Indians - 98 (World Series Champs of 2005) Yankees - 94 * (AL East) A's - 91 (AL West) Red Sox - 91 * (WC) Angels - 88 * Rangers - 87 # Sox - 87 * Twins - 84 Orioles - 81 # * Actual Playoff teams # Teams with Losing Records So using 2nd Order wins you could only predict 2 of the 4 playoff teams, and the Rangers and O's were severely upgraded due to their offense. So basically, Neyer is concluding that the Texas Rangers were as good last year as the Chicago White Sox? And yes he is...which is how unbelievably flawed Neyer's reasoning is, and how much of a copout article this is. I mean, this is something I'd expect to see on a Cleveland Indian message board, not on ESPN from a "well-respected" writer. BTW...anyone remember why the Sox won the World Series last year? Pitching, speed, defense. Red sox in 04? Pitching, speed, defense(same may see this as strange, but without Roberts stealing 2nd, there isn't a chance in hell Boston makes it to the series. Nomar was traded and Anthrax was brought in...both moves were made because of defense). Marlins in 03? Pitching, speed, defense. Angels in 02? Pitching, speed, defense. As I recall, the 01 DBacks had all 3 of the same attributes, the Yankees did in the early part of their run, the Twins basically built their entire organization around it, and yet it still gets unnoticed to this very day, and a lot of times it does by so-called statistician writers such as Rob Neyer.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) Uribe. I don't think he will put up his 2004 numbers again but his new leg kick timing method and improved plate patience should help him put up numbers right between his 2004 and 2005 seasons. Juan Uribe (2005 Pre All-Star stats) 240 AB .246 AVG .276 OBP .379 SLG .655 OPS 6 HR 38 RBI 13 BB 41 K Juan Uribe (2005 Post All-Star stats) 241 AB .257 AVG .325 OBP .444 SLG .769 OPS 10 HR 33 RBI 21 BB 36 K Uribe improved his OPS by .114 points after the All-Star break last season. I think he will put up numbers in 2006 closer to his .769 OPS in the second half of last year. If I'm remembering right here, Uribe didn't develop the leg kick until like mid-late August -early September.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) I just turned it on and what $%#^ is this??? This dude is the most feminine man ever. Girl shirt, girl belt, girl haircut, undoubtedly makeup, femmy voice, dances like a girl, talks like a girl, and then does Whitney Houston "Queen of the Night." I am starting to wonder if this show is real or if it is setup...that was just f***ed up. I mean, I understand a person's rights to everything they have rights to...but how can that person live with themselves day in and day out? I mean, he breaks down when they make fun of him, yet he walks into men's bathrooms day in, day out and is verbally tormented and just blows it off? I don't know.
  6. I hope I'm not in the minority when I say that I think Toronto's offseason was overrated. Sure, they made a bunch of sexy moves...but when it comes down to it, they became much worse defensively...Koskie is way better than Glaus defensively, and Hudson is a GG caliber defensive 2Bman. The Sox proved this year that a pretty big factor in winning 1 run games is pitching and defense, along with "Ozzieball" and clutch hitting...the Jays defense has worsened, thus their pitching staff will allow more hits, thus allowing more runs, so their pitching staff will probably be slightly overrated if anything, they added some pretty big power bats in the middle of the lineup thus taking away from the smallball factor, and clutch hitting varies from year to year. I think they're an improved team for sure atleast, and probably a wild card contender...I'm just not sure how big of a threat they really are. They're a team I'm going to keep an eye on this year.
  7. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Uh oh, now I've done it. Put up or shut up time. Go Jerry! Please show I'm not a complete boob. btw, I'm not anti-Anderson. I like him a lot. I just like Owens' numbers more, so I'm going out on a limb, pimping him. The last guy I felt real good about was Iguchi. And before that, Carlos Lee. Of course, I thought Carlos should play 3B, so what do I know? Anderson has more baseball experience, is better defensively, and put up his .295 18 .829 whatever splits at AAA last yeear, while Owens hit .330 at AA in a huge park, and he was something like 38 of 58 in SBs. I consider myself an Owens supporter on this, considering his lack of baseball experience, but he's probably not starting material.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) Better with them versus an AL team we'd have to face several times a year. I absolutely hate seeing him on the mound against us. He's a nut.. but an effecitive one. Unless Timo is on first base
  9. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) sad story, i know. kid enters the draft to try and keep his mom alive, but then this happens. Hes going to be beast for somebody. BUFF A LO BUFF A LO (say it with me now) BUFF A LO
  10. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) who doesnt? speed aint everything though... he's a 2nd rounder. I tend to agree...I see his stock rising after workouts and the combine.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) The true way to spark a s*** lineup would have been to keep the steller defense in CF and replace crazy Carl with Grif. I don't think there's much of a case for replacing Rowand with Griffey in CF half way through last year. Post-ASB numbers... Carl Everett - .228 10 34 .305/.386/.691 Aaron Rowand - .264 8 35 .326/.431/.757 So yeah if anyone was ever considering replacing Rowand with Griffey instead of Everett with Griffey, you would be making a huge mistake. I can almost guarantee you KW was trading for KGII the DH not KGII the CFer.
  12. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I could see it happening to myself down the road. I get so damn wound up and pumped for the game that I lose it sometimes. I was f***ing having spasms Sunday. A heart attack is pretty extreme though Garbage can in bathroom says hi.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Well, with Cameron in NY and in the NL the last few years, and now in SD, and Hunter playing in Minny, Hunter faces the Sox 19 times per year, and we might see Cameron for a 3 game set every few years if he stays in one place. Plus, Hunter has probably leveled more White Sox Catchers than Cameron. Anywho...I can't complain about Cameron...I believe his trade brought us Konerko. Well, I guess I should have come to that conclusion...it would also make sense as to why Jamie Burke would hate him too. But I think what bugs me the most about Hunter is that it seems he's widely considered better than Cameron, when truth be told, he's not...I figure at the very least they are equally valuable players. And yes, Cameron netted the Sox Konerko...straight up trade between the Sox and Reds.
  14. I have a question about Pods defensively. Obviously, I'm not able to see Sox games consistently...but those that did, did it seem like Podsednik was getting better as the year went on defensively in LF? I think I've heard people say that, but I can't seem to recall it exactly.
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) How exactly do you qualify to play for a particular country? Interesting decision by Nomar. I wonder if he speaks Spanish. As a side note, when I was a kid, most of the Latin ballplayers in MLB were Mexican. Today, there are few and far between. I know there has been a huge influx of Dominicans and Venezuelans, but why the drop off in Mexicans?? DO YOU NOT REMEMBER STEVE LOAIZA? If I had to take a complete guess...I would guess it's that either the Dominican and Venezuela just have all around better talent, or that soccer is bigger in Mexico than baseball is, whereas baseball is huge in both the Dominican and Venezuela.
  16. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) If all Chris Young turns out to be is another Mike Cameron, then I'll be completely content with this trade. If you ask me, Cameron has been pretty overrated his entire career. Funny, I've always thought the exact opposite. Gold glove defensively in CF, great power, great eye, very solid speed on the basepaths...I just find it hard to find someone that does all of that overrated. He doesn't hit for average, and he strikes out a ton...but if you have him in CF, you are feeling very confident as a pitcher. I just do not understand why Torii Hunter gets manlove up the ass around here and everywhere in general, and Mike Cameron gets relatively unnoticed. They're very similar players all-around, with the exceptions of average and plate discipline, where Hunter's a better hitter with not much of an eye at the plate, and Cameron is a worse hitter with a better eye.
  17. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) 2nd Round: Jason Avant WR - Michigan (2nd Round steal) If he is a steal, so was Darius Watts in 2004
  18. Not too early to start. I'm going to post just 1 tonight so far, but I will surely post more as the draft nears. My lone sweetheart at this point is Greg Eslinger...mainly because he is a graduate of my high school(Bismarck High School). A day one pick for sure, but there are definately question marks about him, most notably his size.
  19. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I remember that thread. My guess is that Thome's number would be some where in between. If he would get #35 (not likely), fans would light up the switchboard at the Cell. If Thome got 35, I would walk to USCF and protest the hell out of it. I am serious too.
  20. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) Injury prone from what? Line drives and second basemen on the base paths? This discussion reminds me so much of Jermaine Dye. When the White Sox signed Jermaine Dye, a lot of talk was "if Dye can stay healthy." I don't recall my stance on it, but looking back on Dye's injuries, you see that he went down with a freak broken leg on a foul ball in the playoffs, and then he ran into a catcher - though I can't remember who at this point - and dislocated his shoulder. So if Jermaine Dye is ever considered injury prone, so is Mark Prior. Truth be told, neither is injury prone. Injury prone is Kerry Wood, who becomes injured because of the way he pitches. Or Frank Thomas, due to the place of his broken bone and his weight. Not Mark Prior or Jermaine Dye, who have suffered freak accidents
  21. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) with all the north teams rebuilding with new coaches next year i could see running the table in the division, kind of like the seahawks did this year and getting home field Since when is Minnesota rebuilding? New coach, new scheme, and some new players for sure...but they aren't rebuilding.
  22. Davis is solid as hell...I just hope the Bills don't do something stupid and draft him. He'd be a good player...but if Haloti Ngata isn't a Bill after draft day, I'm going to be sorely disappointed.
  23. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) I know the other guys are not aces, but Big Z is as good as it gets IMO. That's all. I wasn't saying they have a better rotation by any means... I agree 100%. The only thing I do not like about Zambrano is how is just a crazy bastard on the mound. You want an intense pitcher on the mound, but my god, he is the anti-Jon Garland.
  24. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) I got the impression that the 4th OF'er was going to be Borchard and I support that if it does happen. I think he might get agood look at the CF job too, if Anderson isn't ready. I would venture to guess that Anderson is more ready than Joe Borchard has ever been at any point.
