  1. Damn, every one of them stayed up /no popup blocker...need to get one
  2. Not so sure if reversing the trade would be a good idea, because so many other trades would have to be cancelled then as well. Gathright was shipped from Tampa to San Fran in that deal, was then sent to Chicago in another deal, and was then sent to Atlanta in another deal. That would be 3 trades that would have to be cancelled right there. And in the trade where Gathright ended up in Atlanta, Boston received Frank Thomas and Carl Everett, and both of those two have since been traded, which would have to cancel those trades too. Ther would be way too many other trades falling apart to reverse the one trade. Just as a note to whoever takes over as DRays GM...tough luck, but what has happened has happened, and there is nothing we can really do about it anymore. /sorry, prob should have posted in other forum, oh well
  3. It would be great if we did get him though, wouldn't it? Just for a moment, imagine that rotation in the playoffs... Johnson Garcia Buehrle Wright Contreras Ahhhh....kind of feels like you are in a nice, warm bath.
  4. Your OBP can be .290, but if your OPS is around .850-.900, you are still doing the team more good then harm. OPS is the key for a guy like Escobar who has power potential...not OBP.
  5. We need pen help, period. I am not comfortable going into the year with a bullpen of Shingo-Marte-Politte-Adkins-Cotts and then probably Diaz and maybe even Grilli or Munoz. We need atleast 1 reliever, and 2 would be better. A lefty would be good, so that way we could have Cotts go down to the minors to stretch out his arm a little(or maybe just have him stretch it out over the year), because he could be a very solid starter some day. And I would not mind Osuna at all, assuming he came quite cheaply. Osuna or maybe Julio or Baez in a trade, someone like that. I'd like another OFer too, so that way Craziness doesn't have to start in RF for us...but if the Sox do not have the money to get one, he can stay in RF.
  6. The Angels have one of the deepest lineups in the league, and to boot, they have one of the best bullpens in the league as well. Having that helped a lot in getting through their struggles in May. Scoscia is a better manager then Ozzie...I know that. But you cannot place full blame on KW's shoulders for that move...if you were GM, who would you have hired? And them having Eckstein come back with a very solid year and Figgins having a very solid year playing 2B, 3B, and CF when necessary was a big boost to them. Having a good top of the order is even more important then having big hitters in the middle of your order. Secondly, KW did have a plan to have a very solid team, but he put all his eggs in one basket and the plan fell through. Had ARod ended up in Boston, we would have had Nomar and Williamson from Boston, and there were reports that with the rougly $2 mill saved(Nomar made $11.5 mill, Williamson about $1 mill, with Maggs making $14 mill last year), the M's and Sox would have made a trade sending Freddy Garcia to Chicago for Jose Valentin...and while in hind sight that looks like it would have favored the Sox like no other and seems unthinkable, it was a very true rumor at the time...Freddy Garcia was coming off a very bad year in a very good pitcher's ballpark, and Jose Valentin was coming off a .240 28 70 year with very solid defense from the SS position, and if he failed in Seattle, they could have just dumped him, knowing he was a FA after the season. We would have been short a RFer at that point in time, but we would have had a 5-man rotation, one of the best offensive SS's in the game in Nomar, and a very solid bullpen with Politte, Marte, Koch, Williamson, and Shingo, along with 2 of Adkins, Cotts, and Jackson. His plan was not the problem...it was the outcome that was the problem, and the outcome was that nothing happened, because talks broke down between Boston and Texas and the MLBPA
  7. An 18 game winner with an ERA of 5.01(6.38 in the first half, meaning we would have been out of it, because thats worse then Scott Shoenweis or Dan Wright or Felix Diaz or practically any other starter out there), with a WHIP of 1.37.
  8. Are you serious? For starters, KW was going very hard after Delgado and Walker...but both had blanket no-trade clauses and would have turned down trades to the Sox Secondly, to get good replacements for both Maggs and Frank(.900 and .950 OPS guys), we would have had to have given up a ton in prospects, and maybe even some major league players too, such as Adkins, Cotts, and perhaps even Marte, Uribe, Harris, and Crede. KW accepting the fact that we were out of it and just trying to catch lightning in a bottle is better then what you suggest. That is why I am glad you are not our GM.
  9. Sure let's let Frank leadoff. It's not that bad of an idea. The main problem with it is that Frank can utilize his strengths lower in the order. You do not need a guy hitting 40 homers at the top of the order leading off games, you want that guy in the 3 or 4 spot in the lineup so he can hit 2 and 3 run homers.
  10. I agree, getting boopers has worked very well
  11. Why won't the team have much use of him until 2006? He has, by my counts, about 2 and a half months left to rest and rehabilitate his knee back into condition, and he has been resting it since about the middle of July, so he has been resting it for about 6 months in all. I have no idea what this type of condition is or how it will effect him long term, but you have to consider that Willie McGahee was running at about 75% on a knee that he had major surgery on to replace an ACL and an MCL in within 3 months of actually having the surgery, and I would have to imagine that an ACL + MCL tear is much worse then what has happened to Maggs. Given, McGahee was being absolutely stupid in doing what he did, but he was doing it. I see no reason why Maggs will not be able to play in 2005, unless he reinjures his knee or some other part of his body.
  12. Low risk, high reward Most people thought JT Snow had lost his ability to hit really well...put him in the lineup next to Bonds and he hits .330. Maybe something like that could happen to Big Cat going back to a hell of a good hitters park. Crazier things have happened.
  13. You waste a spot on the roster until Frank comes off the DL(assuming he needs time on the DL to start the year) So really you are not wasting a spot...because once Frank comes back, Andres is gone(unless he is like Mike Jackson and Ozzie wants veteran leadership on the bench :headshake )
  14. Tejada had the best year of his career...so to say he was bad is stupid. .311 34 150 .894 with only 73 K's in 653 AB's, along with being probably the best defensive SS in the game...range factor of 5.00, best in the majors, zone rating of .861, 5th best in the majors, along with a fielding percentage of .971, which was in the middle of the pack at 17th.
  15. Was just throwing a name out there...note that I did say "someone to play the OF period"...I could have said Beltran or Manny, but both would be just flat out nonsense, realizing they are both way too expensive for us. Podsednik is atleast available.
  16. That's not necessarily true, though I do believe you know what you mean, and it just came out wrong. If you sign someone right now, it is almost a guarantee you will give up a draft pick, while if you sign someone after December 7th, you may or may not have to give up a draft pick, depending upon whether the original team offered the player arbitration. In Jaret Wright's case, the team who signs him will almost undoubtedly have to give up a draft pick for him, because Atlanta will offer him arbitration.
  17. Eh, low risk, high reward...not a big deal at all. He's not good, but whatever Sign him to a minor league deal, and if you can't get Dye or Hidalgo or Podsednik...someone to play the OF period...then you can have Everett play RF and have Big Cat DH while Thomas is recovering from his foot injury, assuming he is not healthy enough by the start of the season.
  18. It really is not hard at all. I thought it was going to be pretty crazy right away, but you get your feet wet and you get used to it after a while. I can say already that it is really damn fun.
