  1. Reminds me of that fun game I like to call..."If you could ask a famous person one question, what would it be?" Because I know who I'd ask and what I'd ask them. Say, Archie...how many games have the Chargers won?
  2. BMac, Anderson, and Marte for Hudson...sure, in a heartbeat. BMac and Anderson alone for Mulder...not a chance in hell. If you thought Clement's second half stats were bad...you are in for a surprise... Mulder, second half of 04 - 5-6, 6.13 ERA 1.59 WHIP, BB/9 of about 4, K/BB of 1 with a HR/9 of 1.5 For our top 2 prospects? No thanks
  3. You could also look at that as KW is trying to get 8-10 wins out of some guy who has never put it all together, ala ELo and Scho, and he will get it very cheaply too. Clement might get 15 wins in Boston...might put up an ERA under 4...and will probably start a playoff game, assuming they make it...for $8.5 mill a year. Meanwhile, we can get 8-10 wins from whoever...might put up an ERA under 5...and will not start a playoff game for us, assuming we make it...and he will make between $500K-$1 mill. Which is the better deal?
  4. The offseason is young. There will be other moves made still.
  5. Just wondering, what makes you think this? I do not think trading PK is out of the realm of possibility...in fact, I think it is a very real possibility. KW has not come out and said that PK will not be traded. I also understand that JR said that Ross Gload is not a starter...that's fine by me too. There are other 1Bman on the market correct? And, just to let it be known...I do understand it is educated speculation. Odds are good PK does end up back in Chicago next year. Doesn't mean it will happen. Basically...I am just saying do not rule out KW trading PK. There is a possibility of it.
  6. Giving 3 years to a guy with the snap he puts on a ball is almost too risky. His elbow is like a walking friggin time bomb...it could almost literally go out at any time on any slider he throws. Giving 4 years to him would be insane...that is why the Mets continue to lose(see Pedro) A Gacia-Buehrle-Clement-Contreras-Garland rotation is solid...I just do not like it considering Clement is going to get $10 mill, and considering that he was terrible in the second half.
  7. Reinsdorf likely will not let him. KW might not like him, but I'm pretty sure Reinsdorf likes him a lot...so much so that he either lent him or just gave him $1 mill to help pay some debts Frank had prior to the 2003 season. Frank will end his career in a White Sox uni.
  8. If the lineup stayed the way it is right now(I do not think it will...just a hunch)... Pods - LF Uribe - SS Rowand - CF Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Everett - DH Crede - 3B Davis - C Harris - 2B when Frank comes back... Pods - LF Rowand - CF Thomas - DH Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Uribe - SS Crede - 3B Davis - C Harris - 2B with Everett in as a guy who comes in and plays all 3 OF spots. I just get the feeling that the bench will not be Everett, Timo, Burke, Gload, and Valdez to start the year. No way do we go into the year with no backup 3Bman(unless you count Burke and Valdez, and quite honetly, I don't)...I just think there will be more moves involved around the bench. I still could see Everett being dealt and having Gload be the DH/1B type at the beginning of the year until Frank gets back. Think about it...if we are even in the Clement picture(mind you, I don't think we sign him, just saying we are in it), that will cost us atleast $10-11 mill, plus we are looking at Pierzynski, who will probably get like $3-4 mill...that is between $13-15 mill, and the Sox have like $10 mill available if they are willing to go to the $75 mill threshold. If they can get those 2 for $14 mill...that if $4 mill over. Guess how much Everett makes. I have no sources...this is just some whacky-ass speculation on my part.
  9. I know it's ruining the topic, and it is a good topic, but... 1. SP 2. SP 3. SP I do not want a blackhole at the end of the rotation again. That has cost us a ton of games over the past 2 years...I do not want it to cost us anymore games, period. OK...now so I do not hijack the thread...continue on
  10. I agree with the W-L argument. If we signed Odalis Perez, and he was placed in the rotation based upon his W-L record, he would be our #5...went about 7-6 last year IIRC. What I do NOT agree with you or most everyone on his spending a lot on Clement. A guy that went 2-5 5.09 ERA 1.46 WHIP BB/9 of 4.5, K/BB of 2, and a HR/9 of just under 2(1.84) in the second half of the year, compared to what he did in the first half(7-8 2.91 ERA 1.18 WHIP 3.4 BB/9 3 K/9 .77 HR/9) is not really a guy I want for $9-10 mill or whatever he is going to end up getting. I do think getting Clement could be a huge mistake that could cost us big time in the long run. And yes, 3E8, I did notice it.
  11. You think these were his exact words? Because I can tell you right now that's not what I would say if I got traded to Milwaukee. I like Carlos a lot...I'm gonna miss him. Hope he rips the hell out of the ball against the Cubbies too. :fthecubs
  12. Having your number be 02 would look kind of stupid IMO. Benito Santiago is like the only one who has ever done anything like that, and that was stupid when he did it(I believe he did it anyways, with Florida...wore the number 09...he gave some reason, but I can't remember why anyways). I have no idea what his number will be though. I'll just say this, do not rule out him wearing the #20
  13. .266 5 21 .742 for 2 guys who had virtually no future in your organization is not awful, per se. It is not good by any stretch of the imagination, but is not awful. Then again, for hitting cleanup...it is awful. He is not a cleanup hitter, and should not be put in the cleanup spot...like he was several times last year.
  14. I agree. But in a hypothetical trade for RJ, knowing Rowand can NOT be a part of the trade, the only real important pieces we are giving up that effect the Sox this year are Garland and Marte...and really, by acquiring RJ with Garland being apart of the package, we are back at square one essentially as far as the rotation is concerned in the sense that we still have a blackhole at the end of our rotation(Johnson-Garcia-Buehrle-Contreras-GRILLI...that last part does not roll off the tongue well). There are decent LH relievers available, and there will be some available at the trade deadline if the one we get does not work well. I do think with the acquisition of Vizcaino that one of our relievers becomes available for trade...Politte has little value, Hermanson is untradeable until June, and Shingo is not a guy we can really trade...that leaves Marte, and Vizcaino himself really. After trading Marte, you look for a replacement LH reliever of some type...and there are a few solid ones out there still. All you need him to be able to do is help you get outs. Also...if Arizona is looking at Jeromy Burnitz to play CF for them, they will take Everett in CF too. Everett is not good in CF, but if I were running a team, I would probably prefer Everett in CF over Burnitz. JMHO of course. Then again...if Everett, Marte, Garland, and a prospect like Diaz or Adkins does not get it done...screw Arizona. Also...to those of you who want Hudson over Johnson...I can understand why. I think I might prefer Hudson over Johnson myself. You have to consider what it would take to give up Hudson compared to what it could take to get Johnson, and then figure out which move is better for your team. To get Hudson, it would likely cost us Uribe and BMac, and if you trade Uribe, you have to get a replacement who absolutely has to be able to play SS(because I quite frankly am not fond of the idea of having Willie or Valdez play SS for us), and as of right now, the SS market is slim pickin's...unless you are willing to pay $8 mill for Cabrera(I vote no in that category). Giving up Everett, Garland, Marte, and a prospect > Uribe and BMac. JMO again of course.
  15. I did want to stay away from him for a reason. $54 mill for a guy who is, essentially, washed up, is not a wise move. Good thing KW is running the team and not Einhorn.
  16. He'd be good for us, assuming he actually shows up to play against Minny.
  17. I like Pierzynski. He's an asshole, but he's still a damn good ballplayer. Here's an interesting stat about Pierzynski. In 471 AB's this past year, he struck out 27 times...that is a strike out once every 17 AB's. The funnier thing is...he STILL struck out more times then he walked. Anyways...how bad are the Giants? They give up Joe Nathan for this guy and only have him for one year...meanwhile, Joe Nathan has become one of the best closers in the majors. What a good move by the Twins that was.
  18. One thing that could be good, bad, or both good and bad for us is this... Consider that Aaron Rowand hit .310 for us this year..and then consider his career minor league average was .281. Also consider this his SLG% for us this year was .544, and his career minor league SLG% was .479. Could be good in the sense that Podsednik hitting .280 is not impossible, especially in such a good hitters park. Could be bad in the fact that we could see Aaron Rowand regress too. Could be good and bad in the fact that we could see both happen. Could be good and bad in that Pods is bad, and Aaron is good. I think you have to wait and see on this one, quite honestly. You can't just say we win or we lose this trade(even though I have said we do win this trade if Ginter it he PTBNL...that would be insane if he was).
  19. I'll take his no power...because if he started, he'd likely hit 15-20 homers, easily.
  20. Not sure if we would have made the playoffs even with 5 starters. Minnesota was on fire down the stretch, and really settled down to try and get healthy down the last 2 weeks. They could have won 90-95 games in all likelyhood.
  21. They play small-ball really well...but getting rid of Lee, who is quite possibly the dumbest player in the majors(or very close to it anyways) and adding Podsednik helps the Sox improve small-ball wise.
