  5. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) If that avatar picture is your baby, he scares me. Not quite my kid, being 17 and single and all that good stuff. Also...I don't doubt Harris will be moved. But they have to have some insurance in case Iguchi cant hang...which is why Harris will stick around for now. I could see a scenario where he is traded in ST, much like the Timo trade last year.
  6. The DRays just signed Robbie Alomar to a contract...so why wouldn't they be interested in Larkin? I honestly doubt that was us.

  8. (pats self on back) I called this almost immediately after the Iguchi signing, when everyone thought it was going to be Harris traded. They don't like Harris, but they aren't(or shouldn't) trade him until they know for certain the Iguchi can hang around and play well. EDIT: shouldn't say everyone...but people were speculating that.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) I was gonna say that didn't sound like a typical Jeckel post, there was no anger or Arow love. It is kind of mean, but that is funny as hell right there We all love you jeckle
  10. This is one of those lists that is out there that you feel is out there to piss you off. The Sox had a better offseason then the Giants...I feel that very much so...and I could argue that as well. They had a better offseason then Anaheim...Anaheim's "best signing" in Finley could prove to be a bust...the guy is like 40, his range is declining, and he will likely lose a little bat speed, even considering he had his best season ever last year. There are so many points to argue there...so little time So, I will give a big, general...who cares?
  11. Offensively, Pods is the key. If he puts up a .340 OBP, our offense will be one of the more dangerous in the league, and if he can put up like a .370 or .380 OBP, I will go as far as saying pencil us into the ALDS. Pitching wise, I think it is important for one of the 3-4-5's to step up and have a good year, be it Duque and staying healthy(because he will be good enough if he is), Contreras maintaining consistency throughout the year, or Garland becoming a decent pitcher. I have my doubts for all 3 of those, with Duque being the most likely to occur. I also think that Contreras could very easily be a 12-15 win pitcher for us this year, even if he has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP like I think he will end up with. Garland I have no hope for...if he proves me wrong, that would be great, otherwise, I think this is his last year with us.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) yes he is actually doing a little 'baseball activity' but for all you know that may be spitting and scratching his nuts..." Haha Maggs is stupid. If he gets an 8 digit figure, he can go to hell, and so can the team that caved, and if that team gives him a multi-year deal, they can go to hell twice. I don't wish ill will on people...but this guy's a true asshole. Thankfully, karma will take care of his ass.
  13. QUOTE(AstralSox @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) WE STILL HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER!! Sorry, but don't forget Thomas and Ordonez were injured most of the year and we still ended up 2nd/3rd in the league in homeruns. Dye = Lee ...when healthy Uribe 23 hr last year Valentin hit 30hr and hit what, .213? Everybody in our lineup with the exception of Pods and maybe AJ are capable of hitting well over 20 hrs. Don't worry about it. This is something I think people are looking over and not even realizing. This team still does have all kinds of power. There is no doubt in my mind that the Sox will still hit around 200 homers. However...Dye does not = Lee when healthy...Dye is a .270 25 80 .800 type player...Caballo is a .310 35 110 .900 type player, with a little more speed too.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) Why would KC want to trade within the division? Santo...because KC wouldn't give a rat's ass if they traded a backup IFer within the division. They will not compete this year, and trading Graffy within the division would not kill them long term. Regardless...I think this is pointless. There is NO reason to give up anything for another. We have invited Ozuna to ST, Iguchi can play SS(though not very well), and I'm sure even Harris could play SS in an emergency if we needed him to.
  15. I was wrong for both Championship games, may as well be wrong again. (I think you know who I voted for )

  17. .329 20 129 .409 .483 .892 and .322 19 110 .364 .485 .849 should not be expected at all, nor should they be predicted. I'll just say I wouldn't throw .250 15 50 .310 .390 .700 out the window, and I'm not gonna throw .310 25 100 .380 .470 .850 out the window either. I have no idea what we can expect from this guy.
  18. Timo is gonna be on the team this year. He is not worth the $1 mill he is going to get though. He would have been lucky to make another team's 25-man, quite honestly. DFA'ing him and giving him a NRI to ST(how do you like that for abbreviations? ) would have been great, and would have allowed us to make that move if we really wanted to. Back to the 40-man roster question...Grilli is still on the 40-man. I would like KW and the Sox to give me 1 good reason why.
  19. I have no idea at all. Not the slightest clue, and I can't even make a guess...there are too many variables that are undecided...how much of an effect will an extreme hitters park have on Iguchi(and USCF is an extreme hitters park...how else can you explain us hitting 242 homers last year WITHOUT Maggs and Frank for half a year? Guys stepped up, but the balls also had to have carried easier as well), how much of an effect will MLB pitching have on him, how fast is he really, how good is he really....I have never seen him play, so I can't comment. I will just say that the Sox seem to really like him, so he better atleast produce some bang for the buck. However, just let me say that I think it is funny some of those who are putting up .330 OBP's and say he is an upgrade over Harris. Color me pink, but isn't a .343 OBP(plus a .366ish OBP against RHP) at > better then a .330 OBP at $2.3 mill? Not saying I don't like the move...just saying he may not be nearly the upgrade some thought.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) Harris himself said he was lacking confidence to steal bases. It was a problem all last year. I'm more or less referring to how he has done statistically over his career. I believe Ozzie gave him the green light to steal bases this past year, and he did not steal, and that was one of his problems too. If you tell him when to steal and give him the sign, he is apparently OK. He started off his career 20 of 22 in SBs, and is 39 of 48 in his career. That is not necessarily struggling a ton. He may be struggling getting reads on pitchers, and I suppose one could view that the same as struggling with stealing bases, but I do not.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) 6. He struggles stealing bases. Disagree Agree with everything else
  22. Willie is not a good bench player. He doesn't seem to hit well coming off the bench...atleast it seems that way to me. If we have him on the team, he should be getting consistent playing time. I think the only reason we would have him is as insurance in case Iguchi is not an improvement over what we got from Willie last year.
  23. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) and he's going to the best hitter's park in the American League. That will probably help some of the Japan-US decline. BB, I'm honestly just curious here, is that an opinion, or is that using statistics? I've seen on baseballreference.com where it noted The Ballpark at Arlington as a better hitter's park then USCF last year(USCF had a 107 batter rating, 106 pitcher rating, while the Ballpark at Arlington had a 111 batter rating, 109 pitcher rating). Given, I am not very educated on that topic, don't know how much the home offense affects that, don't know how the team's pitching staff affects that...I am just seeing 111-109 to 107-107. Given, both are very good hitter's parks regardless...and I do think your numbers are very reasonable. In the end, I really do like the signing. We are almost fortunate that San Francisco gave Vizquel that 3rd year, otherwise we would have likely had no shot at Iguchi. This is very much a medium-risk, high-reward signing..and is a very good signing. I would almost say don't be surprised if Harris is dealt...but that would be a poor choice, having no idea what Iguchi will do in the MLB.
  24. I could see this happening, and it wouldnt surprise me in the least if it did. I did say going into the offseason that the Twins would be wise to try and move Hunter this offseason, considering how much he is making and that he is coming off a solid year. If they could get a package of Backe and Ensberg for him, or something similar, they could have themselves robbery. An OF with Stewart in LF and Jones and Ford in CF and RF is still respectable defensively and solid offensively. Also, getting Ensberg would allow them to make Cuddyer a super-sub...he would have the ability to be a backup at 3B, 2B, 1B, LF, and RF. That kind of depth is always nice to have on teams.
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Would you sacrifice Marte And / or Harris + Cotts + a prospect, just to do that though? That is exactly the argument Is Iguchi and Marte > Castillo? Or is Iguchi, Harris, and Cotts > Castillo? Answer, IMO, to both questions is yes.
