Why do you think El Duque was brought in here?
-
No not a happy b-day Happy b-day...and btw, can you buy me some smokes?
-
Atleast there are no Patriot fans on here yet. Welcome aboard...glad we could have you. BTW...Bills are THAT close to making it to the playoffs. Just gotta hope Big Ben is out for this game
-
I have all the faith in the world that he can handle RHP very well. What we do against LHP is what scares the s*** out of me.
-
Agree...with no money involved, it is no fun. Just go all-in...eh, what happens if you lose, ya know?
-
That should not effect where you want to coach. In the AFC East, Saban will have to go up to Buffalo, New York, and New England, and will likely have to go to 2 of the 3 in the winter time each year, among other games where he will have to go, so it's not like by accepting the Miami job he is avoiding the cold. Like I said...that should be a non-factor. How much power and/or money you are offered from one place or the other is also huge in picking a spot, and should be priority #1 when looking at any job offer. From what I can tell, he was given a much better offer by Miami...therefore, he accepts that job. It's that simple. And he can't be worse then Wanne, can he?
-
He has started atleast 29 games twice in his career...and he has been in the majors 7 years. That's not a good track record if you ask me.
-
Ask and you shall receive

Eck's stats are not great...but they ARE good. Career .278 average, career .347 OBP, 82 career SB's, 198 career K's(in 2300 ABs), very solid defensively...he would have been the perfect #2 hitter for us.
-
YAS, I remember the exact article you are talking about. I am just not sure I could find it.
-
I liked it too. Give knightni the props though...he is the creator. Knight

Apparently, the Sox felt Duque+Pods+Vizcaino+PTBNL+even more financial flexibility > Lee I would tend to agree
-
No I'm pretty sure Coach K will not put on shorts and a jersey. He will probably stay on the sidelines in his suit and tie.

Timo Perez, for $1 mill, is terrible. Alex Escobar or Joe Borchard, for the league minimum, could post atleast a .650 OPS...something Timo could NOT do last year. I don't give a s*** if he is clutch. He hit .246, had an OBP of .285, has no power, no speed, no range in the OF...so he has a decent arm and is "clutch". You think that's really worth $1 mill? Timo's garbage. Davis is not quite garbage...but there are many, many better catchers out there then Davis. Burke is not garbage...seems to me that he is a good backup catcher who handles pitchers well, has a good arm, and is solid with the bat(not .330 average solid, but .250-.270 .700 solid is definately possible)

I dont find her drop dead gorgeous by any means...but I think part of her attractiveness is that she is like an average mom...only hot. Your ordinary milf...only she hosts one of the most popular shows on TV. No man on here can not tell me they have not had a fantasy about doing it with a mature woman(30s-40s...hell if they are in really good shape and have aged very well, I'm sure some even think about ladies in their 50s that way too) That's what I like about her anyways.

This guy has made 30 starts one time in his career. Something about that stat does not make me feel comfortable. I like Duque...I think he could be a solid starter for us...and I like signing him. Having a junkballer in our rotation is a good thing. But I would like more durability. Definately limit his pitch count. He should never have a complete game this year, unless it is around 100 pitches.
-
Yeah, no kidding, Joe Nathan, Juan Rincon, and JC Romero all suck :rolly And is Garcia-Buehrle-Duque-Contreras-Garland really any better then Johan-Radke-Silva-Lohse-Mulholland? Twins have the advantage...I see no reason why Duque puts us past Minny. I think we have improved, no doubt about that...but we are not the best.

Tony Clark - 1B - NYY According to the Toronto Sun, the Jays will look at Tony Clark as a potential replacement for Carlos Delgado. Ewww.

To those who want Uribe 9th in the order...why would we want a guy with an OPS of .830 batting 9th, while having guys with OPS of sub .750 and even some cases sub .700? Is the 9th spot not the spot for your worst hitter? Best possible lineup for us opening day is... Pods - LF Eck - SS Rowand - CF Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Everett - DH Uribe - 2B Crede - 3B Davis - C with Rowand moving down to the 6th spot and Thomas returning to the #3 spot when he returns from his injury. Then again, the possible idea of some type of protection makes sense too. Have a guy who is a very good threat with the bat hit 9th in Uribe, allowing Crede and Davis to see better pitches perhaps. I just do not like Uribe hitting 9th...might have something to do with me being a huge fan of Uribe though.

I knew Soxy was there...but didn't meet up with her( )...didn't know you were there. That was one HELL of a game. Garland got his ass torched, but Johan got beat twice as bad. (of course, Johan went on to win the Cy Young, and he and the Twins went on to win the division, but who's counting anyways?)
-
Yeah no s***, what use is a guy who will hit .280 15 70 .750 for you from behind the plate while also being a pretty good catcher. :rolly I almost hate to do this...but Flash/Killa have been right up to this point, and I tried my best not to believe it. Hard for me to ignore it now...it appears blatantly obvious. As of right now...I want AJ-Eck-Miller(Miller...we had hopes for RJ, Hudson, Clement, god knows who else going into the offseason...and now I want an injury prone pitcher)...and we will be lucky to end up with Davis-Cora-Duque. I feel very disappointed. Prove me wrong and Flash wrong and Killa wrong KW...please do.

Could be a good move...I am hoping for the best. Let me just say SOXTALK PWNS ALL...these threads were created at 1:06 AM CST on a Monday/Tuesday night...within 10 minutes, there had already been 25+ replies. Given, some were "I beat you", but still...Soxtalk is awesome. //waiting for promotion to admin

Let me say that you should take everything that is said on the ESPN/MLB boards with a grain of salt. Odds are very good that they are false.

I hate to say this about such a little acquisition, but could he push us over the top? Sounds crazy, I know...but one thing this team has lacked over the past couple years was a real good spark plug, and they have lacked energy. That is EXACTLY what Eck is. To me...this makes too much sense NOT to happen. I could see Eck landing here for $3-4 mill a year with Cairo ending back up in St. Louis, or maybe they acquire a SS through a trade. However...if we get him, does he hit leadoff, second, or late in the order? To me, he seems to be the ideal #2 hitter for this team...solid OBP(lowest was .325 in 03, highest was .363 in 02...I expect somewhere in the .340 range from him, similar to tis past year), can hit to all fields, bunts the hell out of the ball, makes all kinds of contact(he has struck out over 50 times 1 time in his career, that being 01 when he struck out 60 times)...and to top it off, he is quite good defensively. I look at Eck and see too many good things about him for the Sox not to sign him. Signing him could quite possibly be priority #1 right now, and signing Wade Miller should be priority #2...and if you have any money left over, look to get AJ.
-
Why is that dumb? What is the point of having AJ, Davis, and Burke on the 25-man? If they got AJ, I would want them to nontender Davis
