  1. Lou Brock(I think it was) once said that show me a guy who is afraid to look ugly, and I will show you a guy you can get out. You and I agree completely on this that K's mean very, very little if the guy can put up monster numbers(maybe .330 50 165 1.100 is stretching it...but then again, maybe not...but if he can put up .310 40 120 1.000 he is a monster still)...he can have 150 ugly K's, so long as he is putting up the numbers. Obviously, there are extremes...like if he's gonna strike out 200 or 250 times...but that is completely different.
  2. Where have you heard June? I've read where they think he will be out till May, but not June. I know it is coming along slowly...but June? Ouchers
  3. Didn't see anyone correct it so I will hop on it... 31 GM's? Apparently, the Expos stayed in Montreal and there's a team in Portland too, along with the Nationals in Washington Also...KW would not be a very good poker player. He'd look at aces and would probably just get a huge ass grin on his face. I'll have to see if he wants to play sometime
  4. This does not take away too much from the power that the Sox have. They'll still gonna hit 200 homers again...I just want them to hit for a higher average with RISP and have a higher team OBP and OPS, while having a stronger lineup 1-9 rather then having a s***ty 7-9 hitters and having one of the most dangerous 3-4-5's in the league. Hypothetically...here is a potential lineup... Podsednik - LF (.265 10 .340 OBP) Rowand - CF(.300 25 .850 OPS) Thomas - DH(.270 30 .900) Konerko - 1B(.270 40 .900) Dye - RF(.270 30 .850) Uribe - SS(.280 20 .850) Crede - 3B(.250 25 .750) Davis - C(.230 10 .650) Harris - 2B(.260 5 .650) If they were to do that...the starting lineup would hit 195 homers...and there is no doubt the lineup can do that. The power will be there...that is for sure. BTW...I do think there is a chance they could be looking to trade PK still. You trade him, you put Dye in the cleanup spot, slip Gload in at the 5th spot at 1B, and have Everett be a 1B/OF type. I am not sure if he's ever played 1B in his career, but it's not like it's a real difficult position to learn, and he could probably pick up on it quite quickly. You trade PK and you free up around probably $5-7 mill, depending on who you get in return.
  5. I do not recall the Sox wanting him at the break. I seem to remember quite clearly they wanted him in like late July, early to mid August, and by then the Sox had next to no shot. He didn't come here for the same reason Walker did not come here or go to Texas, but instead went to St. Louis. If he were to have moved, he probably would have wanted to go to a team that would make the playoffs, with no doubt in his mind when making the deal. He didn't accept a trade to Chicago because we had no shot at the playoffs. I assume that was the case...I am not 100% positive anyways, but it is just an assumption. I don't think he would be opposed to coming here, and I think he'd be a monster in USCF...I could see him hitting like .330 50 165 1.100 or so here, if he is healthy and hitting the hell out of the ball. He is probably one of the best hitters in the majors, and one of the most unrecognized players too. Few people realize how good Carlos Delgado really is...and few people remember he hit 4 homers in a game in 2003 too.
  6. Yes And he will too. For him to be worth $10 mill, we'd have to hope he can put up .280 40 110 .950 type numbers in 06. His contract could become a large burden.
  7. Lineup protection is quite possibly one of the most overrated concepts in baseball IMO, unless the guy hitting behind you is Barry Bonds.
  8. Are they going to try and make sure they don't walk Pods so they don't have to face Rowand with a runner on 1st(or 2nd I suppose)? I don't think so. If anyone benefits in that situation, it is Rowand, being the #2 hitter. If Frank is healthy and hitting in the #3 hole and hitting well...that is Pods on 1B who will steal 2nd at any time and one of the most dangerous power hitters in the game hitting behind you. .320 30 100 .900 a possibility? You bet your ass it would be.
  9. K's mean very little for any spot of the order, except maybe the #2 spot where getting a guy from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd is important. What is important is his OBP and, while not necessary, SBs help too. I do not think anyone is expecting Pods to put up the .380 OBP he put up in 2003...but he will be better then the .314 he put up this year too. I expect him to be somewhere in the middle...probably between .335-.350, and while that could be better, for about $500K-1 mill, it is worth it.
  10. Caballo is only guaranteed 2005. 2006 is an option...either $8.5 mill or a $1 mill buyout.
  11. 57 players hit 25 homers, and 89 hit 20...76 players drove in 80 runs. Those are not very good stats for determining a player...but it helps to paint a clearer picture. Consider that we have Everett on the bench, for $4 mill, who could start in LF for us and hit .275 25 85 .800 for us easily...maybe even better at USCF. To me...Ginter does not make or break the deal. Ginter takes this deal from being a wash to being a rapage by KW.
  12. You're a lying assmunch.... Evidence --- http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=523864 You were willing to give up Diaz too. :fyou OH WOW
  13. If the PTBNL is Ginter, my vote for this trade will have gone from indifferent to favoring the deal. Ginter's OPS last year was .812. Lee's was .891. Ginter plays 2B...a much more difficult position to get production like that out of(given, he is not good defensively). Lee plays LF, where 25 homer, 80 RBI, .750-.800 OPS guys are a dime a dozen. That is not a wash...but Ginter is better then a lot of people think. You add in the fact that our bullpen is now one of the strong points of our team, compared to one of the weak points...one of Vizcaino and Hermanson will be setting up(I view Vizcaino as the setup guy, personally), with Politte as a middle reliever too, along with Marte and Shingo? Add in the fact that Cotts and/or Adkins will be back and they will have improved as well, and Diaz and Munoz were decent out of the pen last year too down the stretch...we are like 8 or 9 guys deep, including 5 good ones, in the pen. This is not mentioning the focal point of the trade, who with a .26-.270 average, will put up a .340-.350 OBP, and will steal like a million bases for us. And to top it off, we SAVE money. I do not see how we do not win this trade, quite honestly...especially if Ginter is coming to Chicago too, like initially reported.
  14. I gotta feeling we will trade for someone. Hudson, Vazquez, whoever...I just do not see us signing someone. Maybe I am just not fond with having Odalis Perez here at $8 mill per or Matt Clement at $9-10 mill per.
  15. Their lineup also did not put fear into teams...it was not one of the best lineups in the majors. What won the division for them was good, consistent pitching up and down...Santana-Radke-Silva-Lohse-Mulholland was pretty solid and their bullpen was one of the most solid pens in the league too...Balfour-Romero-Rincon-Nathan is a very solid pen, and they have Crain coming up too. Their lineup scored enough runs to win. That's all its responsibility was. We have a chance to have that same kind of thing if we were to acquire another SP without having to give up Garland, or if we do have to give up Garland, we'd have to replace him in the rotation with someone who is decent.
  16. Would anyone here be surprised at all if this could include another pitcher or prospect of some type that would fit in the A's plan? Because I can kind of see where like a BMac, Ginter, and a prospect or two for Hudson trade could be made, with the Sox making sure they could resign Hudson to an extension prior to making the trade. I do feel that if the Sox traded Lee to Milwaukee and Podsednik and Ginter were included that another prospect would be involved too, and I do not think Ginter would be with the White Sox long...well either he or Harris wouldn't be, with one of them being shipped off to Oakland as part of that package. Is that just wishful thinking or could there be some substance to that thought?
  17. Bunch of nothing Looks like just speculation at this point with possible discussions between Melvin and KW about a trade surrounding Lee and Pods.
  18. Thread of the offseason right here The biggest collective gathering of nothingness since who knows when. Awesome!
  19. He's worth more then all 3 of those guys IMO.
  20. Makes all kind of sense. Gonzalez is so Ozzie-esque is it not even funny. Good defensive SS, latin, doesn't walk, and they knew each other probably pretty well in Florida too. So long as we do not have to give up a lot, or we get some others in return that will help us out.
  21. Damn, I hope the Sox can snatch up Wright again...get him for 2-years, $5 mill...like $4 mill this year, $1 mill buyout, and an option for $8 mill that becomes guaranteed if he pitches 200 innings and can prove he is healthy.
  22. No Happy BDay for you I kid because I care! Happy BDay I invision something like this... :puke :puke :puke That is how your night will go
  23. To trade Konerko and Garland, the Sox would not only have to receive a ton of cash, but they'd need to have another player included too...I do not see the deal happening otherwise. I also feel that if Vazquez struggled in NY this past year because of pressure, he would struggle in USCF because of his tendency to allow flyballs. Another reason for concern is that his velocity was down in the playoffs...if that is a serious problem, then he is not worth Joe Borchard in 2005, let alone Konerko and Garland.
  24. Dorf, you bring up a very valid point...but that is not a fair comparison. Garland is meant to be our #5 starter...we want Vazquez to be a #3 starter for us(or so I assume). I do not mind a 1.44 WHIP and a 1.30 GO-AO ratio with few strike outs from a guy like Garland out of the #5 spot, but if he was pencilled in to be our #3, I would have a huge problem with it. I am neither for nor against a trade for Vazquez, assuming it does not cost Konerko and Garland, or that if it does, insurance is brought in to make sure Gload does not have to start all alone and that we get more then just Vazquez...if we got Vazquez and Gordon with the Yanks paying for most, if not all, of Vazquez's salary, I could quite possibly love the deal...a pen of Cotts/Adkins-Politte-Hermanson-Gordon-Marte-Shingo is, quite possibly, the best in the majors...and our rotation would be quite solid too, and with the saved money, I'd assume they would be able to afford a decent #5 starter...perhaps Paul Byrd or Wilson Alvarez for $1-2 mill, maybe even $3 for 1-2 years. We can then quite possibly upgrade both the rotation and lineup/bench come midseason in trades for players with very little moves.
