  1. Are you suggesting under or over? Personally, I would be ecstatic if we could not only acquire Hudson but then lock him up to a 3-year deal for $30 mill. That would be a steal. Hudson is one of the best young pitchers in the majors, period. We get him and we are almost assured the AL Central title, assuming we make adequate moves to replace the players traded.
  2. Well if they are truly thinking Beltran and Pavano, how big is the $2 mill difference between Cabrera and Renteria? Right? Damn the Angels are gonna be such a good team next year.
  3. I believe Anaheim is focusing more on Cabrera then Renteria so they can have more money towards a run at Beltran, aren't they? Also...I am pretty sure I saw that Boston was going to not go after any real big name...maybe Polanco and Valentin, something like that. I would say that it is pretty much us against the Cards, and with the Cards getting Morris for $2.5 mill, they may have the money to resign him...and I just assume he'd prefer staying in St. Louis to going to Chicago.
  4. Peavy's another solid pitcher too...better then solid actually. He and Perez, while they do not have similar stuff, are in the same league. For some reason, I was not thinking of him...not sure why.
  5. I have been thinking about this for a little bit, and I do think a deal centered around Lee and Willie might be able to atleast perk Beane's ears. I do not think he'd want PK over Lee due to him being a 1Bman, him wanting an OFer, and Lee being the better ballplayer. I do not think that Beane will make this move without getting Lee or Uribe, and I would hope to god that KW has no intentions of moving one of the biggest steals in a long time away for a guy who is not even guaranteed to be here for more then 1 year. Something like Lee, Willie, and Diaz for Hudson with the Sox taking on a mill or 2 to even out the salaries could be a possibility...at that point, the Sox signing Hidalgo or Dye becomes not something they could do to improve the team, it becomes a necessity. I do not think I am the only one who wants to go into next year with an OF of Everett-Rowand-Borchard/Timo/Escobar
  6. You're joking right? Mark Prior, Johan Santana, Ben Sheets all rank ahead of him, and that is just me scraping the surface. One of the best, maybe...not THE best...no way in hell.
  7. I like Drew a ton, but I do not feel he is worth $10 mill at all, not for 1 excellent full season. Jose Guillen got like $3 mill per over a 2-year deal with the Angels after having an excellent year with Cincinatti and Oakland in 2003, so why should Drew get $7 mill more and 3 more years then Guillen? The most I think I would go with Drew is $8 mill...and some team, like quite possibly the Texas Rangers, will go higher then $8 mill, because Boras will get them to bite. Just the feeling I get.
  8. Good signing by the Sox. Had some so-so numbers as a reliever, but had some pretty solid peripherals too. He allowed fewer homers per 9 as a reliever, struck out more per 9 as a reliever, allowed fewer hits per 9, but also started to walk more hitters too. Regardless, I like signings like this. He gives us a lot of options, whether we want him to start, set-up, or close. For $3 mill a year? I can handle that.
  9. Let me just say that a lot of the KW supporters are kids, like myself, who do have school tomorrow, who are probably in bed...that may sound like an excuse, but it really is not. And I still believe KW did the right thing in not signing Jaret Wright, and I do still think he will make atleast one move of some signifigance, or will make a few moves that will not be as noteworthy. As I also said, I have no idea what type of moves those will be nor do I have any idea what direction the organization is headed. As of right now, I am clueless. Now, let the punchlines continue
  10. OK. I'm wrong and you're right. :headshake It's a goddamn suggestion...lighten the hell up already. It's a message board...we are here to talk about crazy s*** about what could be and what couldn't be, and when it happens, we give our take on it. FWIW, KW did make the right move in letting Wright go...$7 mill is too much for an injury prone pitcher who has had 1 good year in the past 5 or so, and it just so happened to come under Leo Mazzone. I liked Wright as much as anyone, but that does not mean KW made the wrong decision in not upping his offer.
  11. Esteban looked very good out of the pen in game 5(was it?) for New York. Looked very very sharp. He could very easily be a dyn-o-mite reliever who could give us 100 innings, maybe even more. He's always had the stuff, just has never had the ability to pitch a ton of innings in a season and put it all together, with the exception of 2003.
  12. How did we burn that bridge? By giving him a shot to win a World Series? You mean like how Baltimore gave Sidney Ponson a chance to win a World Series, or how Oakland gave Rickey Henderson a chance to win a World Series in the 90s? If anything, it made him happier...that was win-win-win-win on all sides of the deal. New York got a more consistent pitcher who was solid out of the pen for them in the playoffs, Esteban got a chance to win a World Series, the Sox got a pitcher with a lot of upside, and Contreras got out of New York.
  13. WTF, goddamn assholes. Sox have Vizquel locked up...San Fran comes in at the last second. Sox the favorites to land Jaret Wright...Yankees snatch him up. Sox favorites to win the division...3rd place, 2nd place, 2nd place...f*** this s***. Goddammit, I wanna be the f***in underdogs for once. We'll sign someone...I'm just not completely sure who right now, at what cost, and how good they will be. I just hope to god we are not looking at Esteban Loaiza. :headshake
  14. Everett is not quite dead weight. Dead weight is having Denny Neagle or Jason Giambi under contract for 8 figure salaries while they pay $40 for a cheap hooker or get caught doing steroids. Everett is not super expensive and can actually put up decent numbers, and can play all 3 OF spots. His contract is not one that is desirable, but it is not a burden to the team either.
  15. That's like trading for Timo Perez, isn't it?
  16. I think the only name on that list that could be available in FA next year is Oswalt...and there is a good chance that even he won't be. New York could end up with RJ, and they'll extend his contract, and Hudson will probably want an extension wherever he goes, and with the price Beane is likely to ask, the team will want to resign him too.
  17. Boston is a team run by sabermaticians, meaning that they value OBP and OPS type of stats very highly...meaning they like guys who walk a lot. AJ Pierzynski has 79 walks in his career...1900 AB's.
  18. If a guy has a good OPS, odds are the guy is a very good player. From what you are saying, I am to understand that Jason Kendall is a better player then Miguel Tejada offensively, because Kendall had an OBP of .400 while Tejada's was .360...am I correct in saying this? With the importance of OBP, it must be true, correct?
  19. I don't see where he has ever indicated that he'd rather be in Arizona then Chicago. I've just seen that he does not want to be in either place He doesn't want to stay in Arizona nor does he want to go to Chicago. He wants to go to a contender. If you were in one of the last years of your career, would you want to go to a team that has finished in second or third place 4 straight years?
  20. 98% huh? But what if it's only 97%? :headshake :banghead :sleep
  21. My 3-9 hitters can have OBP's of .300 combined, but if they are hitting all kinds of homers and doubles and what not when they are up with their combined OPS being .900, I will be perfectly happy. I do not need a .900 OPS from my leadoff hitter...I want him to get on base very consistently. Walks and homers are not the most important stat. If I hit 50 homers and walk 100 times, but thats all I get on base, I'm not doing much for my OBP or SLG%, am I? And in doing so, I'm not doing much for my OPS, am I? OBP is far more important then walks are, and slugging percentage is far more important then homers are...therefore, OPS is a much more important and telling stat then HR+BB(which is essentially the stat you are using)
  22. No, that has never been what has happened. From what I remember of him going back to 2002 when the Mets traded him to Cleveland, he was supposed to be a 5-tools type player...a guy that could hit for power and that was fast enough to steal bases. The key when you are batting is not stealing bases, it is hitting for power. If you hit for power, you are wanted elsewhere other then leading off...perhaps in the 2 hole, perhaps in the 6 or 7 hole, or, if your power is good enough, somewhere between the 3 and 5 spot. The key to any of those spots is OPS, with the exception of the #2 spot where a good average/OBP is wanted along with a good OPS. The only spot in the order where OBP is wanted first and foremost and nothing else matters is the leadoff spot, and he has NEVER been thought of as a leadoff hitter.
