I think having a general thread where maybe just tidbits not worthy of their own thread could be made, and then more newsworthy things can be made into their own seperate threads. We can make the ST thread on the day pitchers and catchers report.

We just read The Crucible not that long ago. Well we were supposed to. It was pretty boring to me...or I just chose not to read it. It is one of those. And then we watched the movie to go along with the book, and that really turned me off. The movie just seemed so f***in stupid. Anyways, RIP Arthur...I hope to read your stuff again sometime soon, and hopefully like it next time.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Just wanna say, Philly is a hitters park and the Jake is a pitchers park in comparison. No one is gonna tell me any different cause the ball jumps out of Philly's new ballpark. Baseballreference's park factor number agrees. Jacobs Field park factor was 98B-98P last year, and Citizens Bank Park was a 101B-101P. 100 is an average park. This says that Citizens Bank was slightly a hitters park, and the Jake was a slight pitcher's park. I am not sure if that is taking into consideration the pitchers spot in the order, but I do not believe it does...and if you consider that too, you realize that Philly is an even better hitter's park too.

****OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2005 PREDICTIONS THREAD****
witesoxfan replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
89 wins. Division winner Beaten in the first round by the Yanks, 4 games. And as far as my bold prediction is concerned...I predict we score around 900 runs. I think the offense clicks, and is what wins us the division. The pitching disappoints most(with only 1 starter below a 4.00 ERA in Buehrle), and the bullpen is 3rd fiddle in the division, behind Minny and Cleveland. Shingo gets hit a little more, but is still solid, Marte is better, Vizcaino is good enough, but Hermanson and Politte struggle to keep their ERAs below 4.00. Adkins makes the team as a long reliever and puts up an ERA in the 4.50 range with a WHiP in the 1.40-1.50 range. -
NBC Sports predicts White Sox to win A.L. Central!

IIRC, we were the underdogs last year too...or if we weren't, we should have been. That didn't work out so well for us either. Who gives a flyin' f*** what the media has to say? If you give a s*** about that stuff, you've already lost half the battle. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) I don't think the Cubs are going to win their division but I don't htink it's a reach, as Cheat has mentioned plenty of times, the NL Central isn't very good. Not very good as in it's the worst division in the majors -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Which rotation gives you a better chance of winning 5 games in a row? Buehrle/Garcia/Hernandez/Contreras/Garland or Zito/Harden/Haren/Blayton?Cruz (actually Oakland doesn't have their rotation set.) I'll take ours. I agree with that. I was never arguing that. I said when it comes to depth, ours is probably the 3rd best in the AL, behind Boston and New York. In a short series, I might take Oakland...that would depend a lot on the development of the pitchers in that rotation. That is more wait and see then anything else.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I think Harden is a stud and will probably improve this year and has the potential to be the best of the bunch. Zito has to bounce back because he just wasn't very good last year. The thing is I just think a bunch of people just assume someone is going to break out for them and be an automatic stud, I just don't see it happening this year. Either way we'll agree to disagree and qwert I know you weren't arguing, I just disagree with you and I was saying I don't want to argue about it. Tis fair enough. Guess I made it in late to see that you didn't want to argue. Oh well

QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) I count myself as a KW fan, but the fact is this is what he gets paid to do. I'm glad to hear he's burning the midnight oil even during a slow period but he is paid fairly well for his efforts. What I wouldn't do to be in his shoes. Yet, at the same time, what you wouldn't do to make sure you stay out of his shoes, right?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Yes, very much so. Isn't cruz going to be in the bullpen?? Also Blanton and Meyer haven't proven anything in the majors you can't just assume they're going to be good. Buehrle - 16-10 3.89 ERA 1.26 WHIP K/9 of 6 Garcia - (with us) 9-4 4.46 ERA 1.24 WHIP K/9 of 9 Duque - 8-2 3.30 ERA 1.29 WHIP K/9 of 9...take into account that this is 84.6 IP over 15 starts, or UNDER 6 innings per start. That is horrible. Zito - 11-11 4.48 ERA 1.39 WHIP K/9 of 6.9...IN HIS WORST YEAR EVER Harden- 11-7 3.99 ERA 1.33 WHIP K/9 of 7.9...in his first full year starting, his second year in the bigs. Plus you have Meyer, Haren, and Blanton, along with Cruz either being in the rotation or the pen. That rotation will be among the best in the league, and if one of those 3 breaks out and becomes a very good starter, I take theirs over ours in a second.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) OH Come on! Oakland or Toronto over us? :headshake Buehrle+Garcia >Halladay+Batista Might Toronto, if I looked into it more, I probably would not. But I might argue with Oakland. Is Buehrle-Garcia-Duque > Zito-Harden-Blanton/Meyer/Cruz?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) Adkins pitched himslef into less trouble. Cotts needs better control. Like I said, once Adkins started pitching well Ozzie was marching him out there every night. Don't forget that in September Politte went on the DL, Jackson was released, and Ozzie didn't have much faith in Diaz which led to both of them getting a lot more innings. I remember Hawk talking about it on a broadcast; Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them both in the bullpen for 2005. For as much flack as KW took for that Durham trade(he should take flack for it...he traded a 2Bman with an OBP of .390 at the trade deadline for a AAA reliever who had surgery and missed a year...he should still be getting s*** for that trade, because he could have gotten a lot more), Adkins is turning out to be quite good for us.

QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras... probably the best 1 to 3 in the AL. IF "El Duque" can give us 150+ innings than he’ll give us 10+ wins... something you wouldn’t see from your regular 5th starters. He looked excellent last season with the Yankees after coming off of that injury. Had an 8-0 run with an ERA in the 3’s. This guy has the capability of being a #2 starter. I’m just praying this guy can be healthy through out the whole year. John Garland has yet to give us 13+ wins (or is it 14?) in a season. This guy will have at least one good year in his career and I’m hoping it’s this year. I don’t care if he has a fluke year, just give us something that will help this team out. Contreras is god-awfully inconsistent and could very well be our #5 starter, and his 5.30 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and his K/BB of just over 1.5 last year with us agrees with me. He has the stuff of an ace, but the head of a 12-year old. If he can get his s*** straight and become a more consistent pitcher, he is a #2. I would also take RJ-Pavano-Moose-Wright over Buehrle-Garcia-Duque-Contreras, and I would take Schilling-Wells-Clement-Wake over ours too, and if Miller comes back healthy, that is quite possibly the steal of the offseason. I'd probably take Santana-Radke-Silva-Lohse over ours too, and that's just because Santana is a god. The ranking of rotations in the AL, or anywhere, really depends on if you are looking at depth(how good it will be in the regular season) or how top heavy it is(how good it will be in the postseason). In both cases, New York and Boston are on top...Boston with the depth at #1 with NYY at #2(the Sox at #3), and New York at #1 as far as the top of the rotation is concerned, with Boston at #2, Minny at #3, and I might even take Oakland and Toronto above us when it comes to top heavy. I know Buehrle is very solid and he is a gamer, but the fact remains, he is a soft-tossing LH pitcher with a career WHIP of 1.24, and his BAA was .271 last year. New York and Boston feast off of those types of pitchers in the playoffs. If we are to get to the postseason this year...we have to hope that Freddy and Duque can be at the top of their game.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) Radke's a finisher: 3yr Pre All-Star 4.59ERA .284BA 3yr Pos All-Star 3.62ERA .266BA How do you explain that? The best I can come up with is that he feeds off momentum of the other front-line starters in the 2nd half. There seems to be a pattern there. You mean like if you aren't up 10 games in the division at the ASB, you are f***ed?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) I don't think nomar has had any injuries that could have been because of steroids. Has he? I don't remember them all. He had a wrist injury in 02 I believe it was where they had no idea what caused it, and it cost him about all but like 10 games of the season. This past year, he pulled his achilles tendon, or something like that, and was out for 2 months. Those are about all the injuries I can think of for Nomar -
Maybe she just had a craving for some rocky mountain oysters?

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:09 AM) Wow it seems Rashad McCants was "locked up" all night. HAHAHAHA!!! P.S. Where was UNC's heart? Wow, you lost all credibility and any sympathy you had with that post right there. Where was UNC's heart? They lost by 1 point to #8 Duke at Cameron. In Chapel Hill, UNC wins. You can't say they didn't have heart.
