QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Well that is a lie if i ever heard one. I didn't say where online, just that I found it online. I was online, and I found it in an AIM window from you. That's right.

I think I would agree. The one thing I like and yet don't like about it at the same time is that it gives some setup men about as much value as closers. I wish we could make saves count as double, to emphasize that closers are more important than relievers, but I disgress. IP and holds sound OK to everyone else, or nay?

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Then who's kid is it? I always just assumed it was yours. I have no idea actually. I just found the pic online somewhere.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Do you mean like last year? It wasn't even called the #5 slot on the Sox, it was called the black hole of the bottomless void of death and decay. Last year, 2003...both years, that is what hurt us the most in the long run. Hell, if we had a Cory Lidle in the #5 spot in 2003 for the whole year, we probably would have won the division. And I promised myself I wouldn't look back at 2003 anymore.
-
Garland is about all we need out of the #5 spot. He could be the reason we win the division this year. Having 5 solid starters is really underrated.
-
I kind of think it is funny, personally, about how many people have somewhat high expectations early in the season, and then realize that Garland is not much more then a mediocre pitcher. The best I think you will ever see from Garland is what you saw from Jason Marquis this year. I'd take that though

Too many things could be said...I think you are right to say don't caption it.

Newpaper: Vikings trade Moss to Raiders

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) The one thing with the Vikings is I think they could still use a star. They have some guy named Daunte. He's pretty good -
QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Mark Buehrle: It's known he's not a true ace, but has been very productive over his career. He has worked a ton of innnings and you go to hope injuries don't become a concern. I highly doubt pitching related injuries effect Buehrle long term. He has no pitch that really wears and tears on his arm. The only thing that could hurt him is if he threw like 300 innings, and that is still not a guarantee. I assume by that, you mean his second half was bad. I don't know about you, but from a guy pitching in Coors East, I will take 7-3 4.37 ERA 1.28 WHIP K/9 of almost exactly 9, especially when you consider that he had a horrendous August(2-1 6.54 ERA 1.42 WHIP .307 BAA along with allowing 8 of his 9 second half homers in 31.6 IP). That was the only month his ERA was above 4.00, the only month he had a WHIP of above 1.35, and a BAA of more then .244. Probably the same one He is not the biggest question mark in the rotation, unless you are talking about health here. If he is healthy, he will be good enough. Health is the only concern. If the reports are true, he will be healthy enough for 180-200 innings, or basically the whole year. Jon Garland will be a very solid #5 starter. We have no reason to complain. Our 5th starter last year was Danelixon Wraugrilliaz(hope you caught that). The year before it consisted of Wright, Stewart, Porzio, and Cotts, which was horrible too. The fact that we will be able to get 5 wins out of the #5 spot, let alone the 10 or 12 we will get, will be a huge boost. And he doesn't have the stuff to win 20. Consider our 04 rotation going in was Buehrle, Loaiza, Garland, Schoenweis, and Wright. Then consider our 05 rotation. Don't worry. The rotation should be the least of our concerns.

Fact: The five starters that will start the season (Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, Contreras, Hernandez) will combine for 70 or more wins - Buehrle - 16, Garcia - 16, Duque - 14, Garland - 12, Contreras - 12 = 70 wins exactly Fiction: Iguchi will post numbers (talking BA and OBP exclusively) better than Kaz Matsui did last season (.272/.331) - this going by the old if one part is false, it is all false. His average will be in the .260's, but his OBP will be in the .340's-.350's. Fact: Joe Crede will rebound from last season, hit above .260 and hit 20+ homers - .265 25 70 .750 or so seems reasonable from Joe. Fiction: AJ Pierzynski will post numbers better than his personal best season of 2003 (.312/.360, 11 HR, 74 RBIs) - I'm thinking more around .290 15 60 from AJ...which is a huge improvement over anything we have had since the second half of 2000. Fiction: The Cubs will win more games than the White Sox - though I wouldn't put money on it. There is a good chance the Cubs could be a 90+ win team...but I see them in the mid 80's again...and I have the Sox down for 89 wins. Fiction: Jon Garland will win more games than Kerry Wood - Kerry Wood, while injury prone and lacking control, is a horse and will win around 15 games...Jon Garland can't win more then 12. This is, of course, assuming Wood stays healthy, which is not a guarantee Fact: Carlos Zambrano will win more games than Mark Buehrle - I see Zambrano in the 18 win range, while Buehrle is only at 16...but again, this is not something I would put money on. There is a chance Zambrano only wins around 15 or 16, and there is a chance Buehrle wins 18 or even 20. Fiction: Scott Podsednik will steal more bases than the whole Cubs team - Pods will run a lot, but I think the Cubs team should steal more then 50 bases this year, which is about what I have Pods at. Fiction: The Cubs attendance will average 15,000 per game higher than the Sox - The Sox will average around 25,000 this year...I'm not sure it is possible to even get 40,000 in Wrigley, but regardless, it won't happen. Fact: Jermaine Dye will out homer Jeromy Burnitz - Jermaine Dye goes from a slight hitter's park to a very good hitter's park, Jeromy Burnitz goes from a hitter's paradise to a neutral field, or perhaps even one that favors pitchers. You also have seen what Burnitz does when he is playing on a contender(in 2002 with the Mets, 2003 with the Dodgers...if you want numbers...2002 - .215 19 54 .677 in 479 AB's, 2003 - .204 13 32 .643 in 230 AB's). Dye could very well put up 30 homers, Burnitz will be lucky to put up 25. Fiction: Latroy Hawkins will have a lower ERA than Damaso Marte - Hawkins is a poor closer, while Marte is going to be in relief all year. I expect a bounce back year from Marte with an ERA in the mid 2's, while I expect a year where LaTroy has an ERA in the mid 3's. Marte's WHIP will also be better then Hawkins'. Fact: The White Sox will finish higher in the standings than the Cubs will - simply because that is not hard to do. I'm not sure if the Cubs can finish any higher then 2nd, and they could very well finish 3rd, and I think the Sox win the division, so this was pretty easy for me. This also means that the White Sox could hypothetically win 81 games, win the division, and the Cubs could win 95 games, and finish 2nd...I still win this.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) I just watched 13 of his k's from last season... Here's the speeds from the gun on each. 85 76 88 78 84 81 88 83 75 88 90 88 If you had a pitcher who had the command and smarts of El Duque, and the stuff of Jose Contreras, you'd have a pretty damn good pitcher. Roger Clemens, maybe?

Who does Ben Gordon remind you of?

QUOTE(The Bones @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) My one worry about the categories is that everyone could try to load up on hitters and just forget about their pitchers because there are more hitting categories than pitching, but I don't really care. If everyone else is fine with that then so am I. I would think about maybe adding 2 categories for pitchers to try and even that out...but then whehter we want it to be reliever friendly or starter friendly comes into play. If we want it starter friendly, we can use innings pitched as one of the stats, and if we want it reliever friendly, we can use holds. I figure we might think about adding losses...not exactly sure if we wanna do that though

Newpaper: Vikings trade Moss to Raiders
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I wonder what Minnesota will look at with the #7 pick now. Will it be for defense, or will it be a replacement for Moss? -
Is there any chance he's thinking "I hope they trade me somewhere warm" ?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Great move by the Cowboys. This is a move for Bill Parcells mostly since he just doesn't want to develop a QB. Personally, I am not sure I view it as a 'great' move. I mean, Bledsoe is really not that good...but they could have done worse.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) Well Your willing to add even more dead weight to this team.. knowing our brainless GM.. we should have him with only giving up 2/3 good prospects.. we have to keep some so we can get Alomar back in July. Dude, that Alomar joke stopped being funny in September. And we know you don't like him. That doesn't mean you have to bash him in every post.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) that doesnt matter, everyone thought that mcgahee was going to be a bust in the nfl and look at him now hes amazing and he is starting for the bills, id take the risk on frank gore, but preferably would want mclendon or claurett It does matter if your knees are bad and you are a HB. If you have poor knees, any run could be your last for the year. Willis McGahee doesn't have bad knees...he suffered a very severe knee injury, but that does not mean he has bad knees. When I think bad knees, I think Jamal Anderson after his 1998 season. He had like 1 good year after that in his career.

I hate to sound ignorant...but how good is LJ Shelton?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Thankfully, Minnesota doesn't have any $$ to spend... Polanco would fit nicely anywhere left of Morneau. 2B - Rivas Sucks. SS - Bartlett should be decent option, but I expect Gardy to stick with Castro 3B - Cuddyer finally gets his shot, but isn't exactly an offensive machine (considering they never felt the need for him to play over Rivas) And he would be a nice fit in the 2 spot in their order too Stewart - LF Polanco - 2B(cause Rivas does suck) Ford - DH Morneau - 1B Hunter - CF Jones - RF Cuddyer - 3B Mauer - C Castros/Bartlett - ss They can have Ford hit 2nd too, but I just think that lineup would flow a lot better. Anyways, like I did say before...I do think Houston will get him, and he'll hit about 2nd there too, playing 2B...that is, unless they want to go with Burke.
