QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) -- Thanks bull to all of you I was right. I will cut that tongue off if you dont put it back in your mouth. That does make sense though...it almost had to be only Young or Owens...why would an infielder be hanging out with 3 young OF'ers(or I guess Rogo plays 1B, but I think he can play a little OF too, or something like that), or why would an old pitcher be with them. Bullard to the rescue.

Temple's Chaney should be fired...
witesoxfan replied to Goldmember's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
As was pointed out earlier in the thread, "goonery" occurs quite often in college basketball, and even came from one of the elite coaches in college history. Chaney wanted to shake St. Joe's confidence, and he wanted to fire his troops up, but I do not think he intended for Bryant's arm to be broken, and his college career to be ended. The fact that he is taking responsibility for his actions is probably helping a lot too. 3 games is probably not enough, but if Coach K gets nothing for the previously mentioned incident, then 3 games is almost too much, quite frankly. -
I constantly see how the Sawks-Yanks rivalry isn't really a rivalry because the Yanks dominate it. Just because I'm a curious little guy, how many straight years have the Twins finished above the Sox in the standings? Like as many digits on my hand if I cut off my thumb? If the Sawks-Yanks isn't a rivarly because one side dominates, Sox-Twins isn't for the same reason. Also...LMB...I agree completely that, all sports considered, Sawks-Yanks probably is not top 10, though I couldn't tell you my top 10 off the top of my head. However, I do think Sawks-Yanks is the best baseball rivalry there is. There are some that are more intense then others at times(Sox-Twins, Sox-Cubs come to mind immediately, San Fran-LA has been pretty crazy, Cubs-Cards, along with others that are not coming to me because its Friday), but, all things considered, Sawks-Yanks > all.

As much as I hate to do it, because it is a serious incident...I can't help but laugh. I guess one thing it does show is that no one will be running of AJ this year, unless they want an 88 MPH fastball in their back. Then again, maybe they do.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Vizcaino? Compare both pictures. Looks similar to me. Those two look very similar. But WhyTF would Viz be with those 3 young OFers?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The list would be too large i am thinking actually. Like the whole baseball world to start. That would be decent sized. Gotta start with Bonds, Giambi, McGwire, LaRussa, IRod, Juan Gone, Raffy, the Balco people, Kittle...and that is just the start of a list that would be very, very long. I think it would suck to be McGwire personally...having in print that you got it stuck in you from behind. Ouch. That's such a horrible thing to write. I dislike Canseco...a lot.

Blake - 1930s - was not in top 1000 1940s - 770th 1950s - 460th 1960s - 371st 1970s - 330th 1980s - 119th 1990s - 85th 2003 - 80th So, according to my calculations, I will have the #1 name in the world in probably the 2100 year range. w00t I'm gonna live till then, just so when everyone is named Blake, I will be like haha, what a great name

Haven't seen a new first round mock in a while from anyone, so I'll throw one out there, though it is probably pretty mediocre 1. 49ers - Aaron Rodgers, QB, Cal 2. Dolphins - Cedric Benson, RB, Texas 3. Browns - Alex Smith, QB, Utah 4. Bears - Mike Williams, WR, USC 5. Buccaneers - Cadillac Williams, RB, Auburn 6. Titans - Alex Barron, OT, FSU 7. Vikings - Derrick Johnson, OLB, Texas 8. Cardinals - Antrel Rolle, CB, Miami(FL) 9. Redskins - Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan 10. Lions - Erasmus Jones, DE, Wisconsin 11. Cowboys - Travis Johnson, DT, FSU 12. Chargers - Marcus Spears, DE, LSU 13. Texans - Jammal Brown, OT, OU 14. Panthers - Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn 15. Chiefs - Carlos Rogers, CB, Auburn 16. Saints - Thomas Davis, S/OLB, Georgia 17. Bengals - Antaaj Hawthorne, Wisconsin, DT 18. Vikings - Troy Williamson, WR, South Carolina 19. Rams - Pac Man Jones, CB, West Virginia 20. Cowboys - Shawne Merriman, DE/OLB, Maryland 21. Jaguars - Dan Cody, DE, OU 22. Ravens - Mark Clayton, WR, OU 23. Seahawks - Channing Crowder, ILB, Florida 24. Packers - David Pollack, DE, Georgia 25. Broncos - Shaun Cody, DT, USC 26. Jets - Heath Miller, TE, Virginia 27. Falcons - Brodney Pool, S, OU 28. Chargers - Khalif Barnes, OT, Washington 29. Colts - Justin Miller, CB, Clemson 30. Steelers - Adam Terry, OT, SU 31. Eagles - Mike Patterson, DT, USC 32. Patriots - David Baas, OG, Michigan Some are more far fetched then others, but that stuff is not as easy as it looks I truly do not see Ronnie Brown falling that far, not for a guy who may have the best all around tools at RB in the draft...however, with Zona apparently picking up Henry, I just didn't see where else Brown could go, and I think if Brown made it to Carolina at 14, they would take him simply as a value pick, because he is a steal at 14. There are other questionable ones, but for the most part, I think it is decent. Thoughts?

It's not Owens And I am struggling to find a pic of Young. It definately kind of looks like Diaz though. Not sure exactly. EDIT: Or maybe it is Owens. I'm bad at this

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I'm just waiting for the time when the Twins can't find a way to come back and get the big hit in the clutch. They've lost Doug, AJ, and Koskie during the last year. They still have Hunter, Jones, and Stewart that are clutch. Then of course there's Morneau, Mauer, and Ford who probably will be capable someday. Ugh this season is eating away at me already. I feel confident about the Sox though. Actually, they lost AJ prior to last year, lost Dougie in the middle of last year, and lost Koskie this offseason. FWIW, they also lost Cristian Guzman...Mr .310 OBP

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Ummm ... I fail to see what difference it makes whatsoever. LOL, it is not a huge difference. All I'm saying is the Duque is the 3rd best starter on the staff...and that is easy to see.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) Actually, I believe Contreras will start game 3 of the season. Ozzie's reasoning was very sound. I could understand that, so long as the rotation goes in an order of 1-2-4-3-5...I do not want Contreras as our 3rd starter, because he is not our 3rd best starter at all.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) Tomorrow is opening day? Of what? It is the opening day of Ozzie's mouth again. I am not listening to a word Ozzie says right now. Contreras #3 starter? Uribe leading off against LHP? Iguchi hitting 9th? I don't buy any of them, quite frankly.

Chris Webber traded to the 76ers

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) You cannot be traded within two months time. I found this though. I read it, and I have come to the conclusion that I will never work for the NBA or the NBPA. Evar. -
My key to the season is to score more runs then the team were playing. That is all. I could go into more detail about how we could do this, but meh, I'm lazy.

I don't care how Neal does in ST, I want him in AAA starting. I want him to be starting for us in 2006. I don't envision our entire rotation coming back, and I also don't envision us making a huge splurge pitching wise. I personally hope you see Neal start the year in the rotation in 2006, and if he struggles again, I think you see BMac promoted(assuming he again puts up good numbers).

AJ will be the opening day lead off hitter for us tomorrow. I can almost guarantee that.

Newpaper: Vikings trade Moss to Raiders
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) How good is he though? I mean his play really went downhill when Moss was hurt. Personally I think he's good, but the team is a lot better off when you have a guy like Moss who can score on any one play. He's the best receiver in the NFL and absolutely changes the way the defense plays and makes it easier for the other recievers to get open. The Vikes are going to have to deepen there WR core. Mrob is good, but they need a #1 ahead of him and Burleson isn't bad, but those guys are all a bit worse with Moss in Oakland. However, the Vikes did do a good job running the ball last year and that should help Daunte, especially since he should actually have a healthy backfield. Moss didn't have a reception in weeks 7-11. In those weeks, Daunte's numbers... Week 7 - 24-30, 183 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, QB rating of 103.2. Week 8 - 24-41, 231 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, QB rating of 62.1 Week 9 - 16-19, 169 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, QB rating of 121.3 Week 10 - 27-44 363 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, QB rating of 117.9 Week 11 - 22-32 233 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, QB rating of 97.5 So he wasn't horrible, but he wasn't real great either. You also have to consider that the depth at WR in free agency is pretty solid this year(Derrick Mason, Laverneus Coles, Rod Gardner, among others), and you have some solid WR's in the draft, as always(they can look at Williams or Edwards, whichever WR the Bears don't take at 4, or they can look at Troy Williamson, Mark Clayton, or even Roddy White with their 2nd first rounder(though White would be a reach). I can also see them trying to take a sleeper type(Chris Henry, Larry Brackens, Vincent Jackson, among others)...or they could take both a receiver with their 2nd first rounder and get the sleeper type. They have so many ways to go about this right now that it is sick. I think Minnesota has vaulted themselves to the favorite in the NFC North. They are still solid at WR and will get some type of replacement for Moss, and upgraded at a position where they were very weak last year, plus they will still likely upgrade the defense even further. With the depth they have at HB, they should seriously think about trading one of the backs(you would prefer Bennett over Moore and Smith) for another pick(for Bennett, probably a 2nd or 3rd rounder), and you continue to add depth defensively. I love Moss as a player...I think he is the receiver you build a franchise around, and that he is untouchable when healthy, because he can hurt you in so many ways. But it had gotten to the point where he was becoming more of a distraction and less of a teammate, and they had to part ways. Getting what they did was not half bad. Also...if Derrick Johnson falls past Cleveland...I invision him in the purple and gold next year.
