Illini # 1 or bulls Playoffs?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) You heard it? -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) They might put you in the North Dakota hall of fame, you and those 2 other guys. Dude, sweet, I will get to sit next to Roger Maris and Brian Voss, maybe.

LOL, I would maybe be good enough for the PBA if I were more consistent...an 1883 for 9 is decent, but you gotta bowl around 20-40 games a week on the PBA, and you gotta be averaging around 230 to even be anywhere close. Of course, PBA pro and Hall of Famer Brian Voss is from Bismarck, so I guess I would be in good company for good bowlers from North Dakota.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) That is absolutely amazing. I just learned how to do the spin last year, and now, I'm always good for at least one turkey per game. But I still have average aim at best when it comes to knocking down individual pins. That's my downfall. My highest score was like 225. I used to bowl head-on with authority, so I'd be happy when I'd bowl like 175. But ever since I got the spin down, I consider 175 to be a bad game. I need to incorporate a little more speed into my game, whereas before, I was like the bowling alley flounder. Pins flying into the next lane and what not. It's a finesse game, and that was lost on me for damn near 15 years. Accuracy is the main thing when it comes to bowling usually. Also, one of the key things when it comes to spinning or hooking the ball(you will also hear it referred to as turning it) is to stay behind the ball. You want to lift the ball, and get it rolling forward, and to try and get it to not roll sideways. You will get much more power behind your shot lifting it. I just recently read an article in a magazine and read through it, and I got probably the biggest tip I have gotten in quite some time. I was coming around the ball, and not lifting it, and that was causing a lack of hook on the ball, and due to that, I was bowling very inconsistently. That tip was probably the main reason I have been as hot as I have been recently(Friday I bowled to just practice, and shot 1012 for 5 games, and today I shot 1883 for 9, including 1299 for the singles portion of the tounament). I also tend to string a few together right away sometimes as well. A couple weeks ago, I started with the first 8, and I can put 5-6 together in a row early on...but for some reason, I can never start strings of strikes in the middle of games...I am unsure why.

I think it is worth mentioning that OSU is around 15-2 at home, including their win over Illinois. They have nothing to be ashamed of. 29-1 is better then every other team in the country. If this loss had come early in the season, no one would be making anything of it. You do not rub it in people's faces. That will not lead to good results. So a good calm down would probably be good. If you have nothing positive to say, wait a while to say it, at the very least.

I still have the Illini winning it all.

Need to bump. Just thought I'd mention that I threw another 300...lol This time it was sanctioned, so I will get a ring for it...which is pretty sweet. EDIT: Also, if you wanna see a (bad) pic of me...check out this site, and click on Jr. Bowler of the Week

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) Kenny Lofton was great. Your crazy...he lead off, got hits, stole bases, scored runs, and was a verbal leader. Oh, and he played good D. What more can you ask for? :headshake He only stole 29 bases that year...and for one of the better ones in the game, that is not good. That was also the season the CBA was renewed. IIRC, his stance on the issue was COMPLETELY different from the rest of the clubhouse...so he was not much of a verbal leader either. And his D was horrible. He guessed where the ball was going and his arm was weak as hell. And playing after May 1st would have been nice too, as was pointed out

Who will the combines benefit most?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) Luis Castillo, Northwestern, DT Neither of the two biggest tackle prospects worked out in Indianapolis (Travis Johnson, FSU and Mike Patterson, USC). There’s a great opportunity for an “unknown” to punch right into the group, and it certainly appeared that this guy has done well. He weighed in at a solid 303lbs and ran his 40 in the good time of 4.79. His stock will certainly rise. lolz So Maurice, how does it feel to be outrun by a 300 pound defensive tackle? -

QUOTE(soxman35 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Illinois man this team is unlike anyteam i have ever seen they play all heart and they are danm good at basketball also i dont evan honestly think the bulls will make the playoff there on and off all season 20-7 in January and February, 20-9 since the beginning of January. Doesn't look on and off to me. Looks like they were off at the beginning of the year, and have since gelled. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I don't think Oakland has enough protection in the middle of the lineup for Chavez. They desperatley need a right-handed thumper. I think that obp can be overrated very easily. I agree that it is valubale in a lineup of run producers or with speed. When you have neither, I think you don't have an offense capable of being a championship lineup. Agreed that Oakland could use a RH thumper. They have a lot of very solid LH bats, mainly Chavez, Durazo, Thomas and Hatteberg, and they have some other decent bats, including Byrnes, Crosby, Ginter, among a few others. What is very noticeable with the A's is the amount of very solid talent they have...if there is a team that is looking to add 2 very solid hitters while only giving up 1, I could see them being a trading partner with Oakland. A perfect example would have been Carlos Lee during the offseason(and I personally would not have minded a Byrnes and Thomas for Lee trade at all, but we probably would have had to of taken on quite a bit of money, money that would be spent better elsewhere. I'm sure that need will be addressed. I am also not positive that Kendall will leadoff...in fact, I think I've read where he may hit 3rd, but atleast 2nd...but that doesn't affect a ton. Kotsay - CF Kendall - C Hatteberg - 1B Chavez - 3B Durazo - DH Byrnes - LF Thomas - RF Crosby - SS Ellis/Ginter - 2B or so And like I said...I do imagine that a RH thumper will be brought in, as that is about Oakland's biggest glaring need. In a couple years...this could be one of the best teams in the majors...again. Surprise, surprise

Shingo, Iguchi, Glavine, and Arroyo are all probably reaches at those spots. BJ Ryan is likely closing in Baltimore, not Julio. However, Konerko in the 9th is fairly solid, as he will likely put up .270 35 110 .875 -ish numbers, and I love Pineiro as a sleeper this year. Overall...it is a so-so team, I would say.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) Please do not mention good and benson any where near each other. Thanks. Um, Benson > Contreras Thanks.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) No way. I can name a number of rappers who trump Tupac: Big Boi, Eminem, Ice Cube, Chuck D, Rakim, Run, LL Cool J, etc. Meh. I am partial to Pac. His songs flow very well together. I think Thugz Mansion is probably my favorite rap song of all time, to be quite honest. The acoustic one featuring Nas of course.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) It's more than fair. In 2003, July was our best baseball. Alomar/Graff both hit over .300 that month and had OBP's of at least .380. In 2004, our best ball IMO was April and May. That was when Willie had his BA over .300. But, we also had a healthy Frank and Magglio. Regardless, the lead off hitter is an important factor in a team's overall success. No. The leadoff hitter is THE most important factor in a team's overall success. If you can have a guy that gets on at a .400 clip, you will have a very solid offense. If your leadoff hitters gets on at a .300 clip, your offense will not be nearly as good. You can look across the league, and some of the better offenses(or some of the more underrated offenses) have very solid leadoff hitters. The second most important factor in a team's overall success is the #2 hitter...if he can do the same as the leadoff hitter, you will have a lot of guys on base for the big hitters in the middle of the lineup. And that is one of the reasons I think, and many think, that Oakland will be way better then people give them credit for. They have a .400 OBP guy and a .370 OBP guy at the top of their order, so they will be getting on base like crazy, and when you have runners on base, you will score runs. Some have thought that they had one of the worst offseasons in the majors, and I am thinking the exact opposite. That's a little off subject, but it pertains to the point anyways. I will say however that when done properly, stealing bases, or just the general idea of stealing bases, will get in a pitcher's head and will hurt him down the road, while helping the offense. I think it is useful, but that it is not necessarily important.

QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) nobody else really good after the 15th yea yea i didnt know about baldelli Nobody else really good, but somehow Woody Williams, Al Leiter, Jeff Suppan were both drafted in the 16th round, Bronson Arroyo and Jason Marquis in the 17th, Jerome Williams and Ted Lilly in the 18th, John Thomson and Brian Lawrence in the 19th, and Glavine and Benson were snagged in the 20th. But there was no one else really good after 15.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Garland = 46 wins at age 24 Sabathia = 54 wins at age 23 Gooden = 100 wins at age 24 Avery = 58 wins at age 24 Kind of funny that he won 100 games in his first 5 years, and that he then won 94 games over the next 11. It is also pretty scary to think what could have been.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) So you think these guys are willing to risk prison time for their egos? I would hope for their sake that wasn't the case. If they think they can get away with it, of course they would. What you cannot prove is not true...or so that saying goes.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) Why is this team built around such low obp guys? Shouldn't we be trying to improve in that area? Dude, no. That is the logical thing to do.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) Giambi denied denied denied before being put on that stand. Sure, they might say they "didn't know that they were steroids", but even if they say that they still come out as cheaters and Franks looks beautiful. There is way too much heat on this steroids issue to deny it in front of Congress because chances are this is going to lead to an investigation and if you are caught lying before Congress that in itself is a hell of a lot worse than admitting to steroid use, where nothing but your image with take a hit. Nothing but their image will take a hit. That is true. These guys also have egos the size of Texas. If their image takes a hit, that would mean a ton. I'm just saying, nothing is stopping them from 'fibbing.' Also, the way Thomas comes across to the media, the way he answers questions...I am not sure the results will be pleasant.

I can't come up with words to say to you. I can only hope you guys stay safe. Try and get some sleep...try not to think about it too much. I know when I have had run-ins(obviously, I haven't had a gun pointed at me...but you get the general gist of what I am saying), I have a hard time forgetting about it, and fear goes throughout my body. I would just say try your best and forget about it. T&P's to you
