QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) I love that were getting no respect from these guys. Remember last time we got no respect we won the division in 2000. Last time we got no respect we finished in 2nd place...last year.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) WOW, I have to give props to hunter for calling it like it is.. I remember watching that game and hearing hawk lay into Clee for not going in hard.. That right there was the season for us ,basiclly laying down for the Twins to walk over us.. That is something the 2000 squad didn't do, we might have not had the talent to win more than the Divsion but those guys were "south side" guys, guys who if you looked at their mother the wrong way they fight and scrap.. something I hope we get with this squad. That was not the season...that sent us into a huge slide. Our season ended when it became official that both Frank and Maggs were gone for the year.

Bears Sign WR Muhsin Muhammad

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) DBAHO, I agree with you with all the good backs in free agency and A-Train not getting a starter's job. But, I would say that you need 2 good backs on your team for depth issues. The Bears had that and they screwed Train around. Now, they have to draft a RB to have this again, where with The Muhammed signing and a Train resigning, they could have taken this LB or someone else at 4 and been that much better. From the end of your post, I get the sense that you think the Bears will for sure take a running back at 4. I don't see it. I am seriously wondering what is wrong with taking a back in the 2nd round or beyond. The top 10 RB's in this year's class are all pretty solid, and more are pretty damn solid(Marion Barber III, JJ Arrington, Kay-Jay Harris, Frank Gore, Cedric Houston, Ryan Moats...along with a lot of others) If you are the Bears, you do not have to take an elite back in this draft, considering how deep it really is. All you need to do is get a guy who can run the ball well, and could start if Jones went down...that is all. -

QUOTE(mac9001 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Just to point out: Duhon averages 10.3 PPG per 48 min while the opposing PG averages (when Duhon is on the floor) 20.7 PPG per 48 min Now, that is probably a little skewed since the Bulls play a decent amount of zone, but he's clearly being out produced by opposing PGs. The rest of his and opponent production if your interested: http://www.82games.com/04CHI2C.HTM Good point guards to not score points, they allow their team to score a lot of points.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) If Miami signs a RB, Benson/Brown is ours. If Miami doesn't signa RB, one of Benson/Brown could be ours. Barring ANY situation, one of Edwards/Williams will be there at WR. Johnson WILL be there at LB and Rolle/Jones will be there at CB. No OT good enough to draft 4th. So....... Barring a Miami signing of a RB, the Bears possibilities are Benson, Brown, Edwards, Williams, Johnson, Jones, and Rolle. Let's evaluate: RB- Not a need but it would be awfully hard to pass up Benson or Brown. Both are phenomenal runners/athletes. WR- The signing of Mush makes it less of a need but Edwards has Roy Williams type skills. Williams has been slacking and didn't shine at the Combine. LB: Johnson is the best defensive player in the draft and possibly the best athlete. He's drawn comparisons to Ray Lewis. Johnson, Urlacher, Briggs = Nuff Said. CB- Not a need but Pac-Man Jones is a true talent at CB. Rolle could be had later in the 1st round if a trade-down happens. That leaves us with: Cedric Benson- Likely to go to Miami. Ronny Brown- Likely to be there at 4. Braylon Edwards- WILL be there at 4. Mike Williams- Slipping but WILL be there at 4. Derrick Johnson- WILL be there at 4. Antrelle Rolle- WILL be there at 4. Pac-Man Jones- WILL be there at 4. Eliminating the possibility of a RB which is not a NEED and CB which is also not a NEED, we are left with: Edwards, Williams, Johnson Like I said earlier, signing Mush helped out a lot. I wouldn;t be upset w/ a healthy Rex, TJ, BJ, Mush, Terrell, and Clark out there on O. But, the oppurtunity to have THE BEST LB core in the league with Johnson, Urlacher, Briggs is just too much to pass up. SO, I say draft Johnson. Dude, Ronnie Brown is probably the #1 back in the draft, and if any back is likely headed to Miami, it is him, not Benson. Also, tradeups are not out of the question. If a team feels that a Ronnie Brown or a Cedric Benson is like exactly what they need, they will trade up...and to answer your question now, the point of the Bears trading down is that the players they need are not good values at 4. If someone is desperate enough, they will trade up with the Bears, get the #4 pick, and maybe the Bears can still look at Williams/Edwards/Williamson/Clayton, whoever it would be that traded up with the Bears. I just do not think taking a RB at 4 is smart at all. If they had a mid to late first round pick, and nothing they needed was on the board, I could see it(similar to Buffalo 2 years ago picking McGahee at 23)...but they are at 4, and it is guaranteed that one of Edwards and Williams will be there, and I don't think there is anyway you can pass up on that, unless you get a good enough offer to trade down.

First off, who the hell cares what ESPN says? As has been pointed out, they made no sexy moves...they brought in a guy who hit .265 last year with a sub .800 OPS to play RF, they brought in a leadoff hitter who had an OBP of .314 last year, they brought in 2Bman who has never played in America, brought in a reliever who had an ERA in the 4's last year, brought in a SP who has started 30 games in a season one time in his career(IIRC)...the only move they made that is pretty much guaranteed to be good for the Sox is the AJP deal, and he isn't guaranteed to have an OBP above .320(which, nonetheless, is better then we have been getting, but the point still holds true). We have guys coming off career years in Uribe and Rowand, a guy in Konerko who put up .270 .890 numbers after putting up .230 .700 numbers 2 years ago, a starter in Contreras who had an ERA of 5.30 with us, a starter in Garland who put up an ERA in the 4.80 range, a junkballer for a closer in Shingo, a DH who can't play the field at all in Thomas who is injury prone, a 3B in Crede who didn't hit .240 last year, a reliever in Cotts who put up an ERA near 6 last year, a $4 mill bench player in Everett...have I touched on enough subjects, or should I continue to reach? Crazily enough, this s***'s gonna work. Secondly...the Twins could very well be better offensively next year then they were last year, even after losing Mr. 310 OBP and Koskie. Morneau is probably a .270 30 .900 type player, Mauer is probably a .300 20 .850 type player, Cuddyer will probably be able to put up decent numbers, they lost no one in the pen(so they will still have Romero-Rincon-Nathan in the 7th, 8th, and 9th, along with Balfour and Crain in the pen too), they lost no one in the rotation(though Mulholland is not guaranteed to make the team)...they will be coming at 100% again this season, so the head to head games will be pretty big with Minnesota.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) I dont want it turning into a Rams type situation where your starter plays well but you cant keep the high pick RB on the bench even though the starter is playing well. Faulk was doing just fine and then they realized "Oh, we gotta give Jackson some playing time too." and that pretty much f***ed them up. Jackson is a great talent and a wonderful RB but if it aint broke dont fix it. The Bears running game was fine, so, dont fix it. Also, I beleive TJ missed one or 2 games last year which also provides a decline in #'s. And it also provides a reason for concern. Health is not guaranteed -

The Bears will take a RB in the draft, and I think they should take one higher too. I just don't think they should be taking one at #4. All they need at RB is depth, and a guy who can do well if Jones is hurt or he struggles. Fason or Morhency would be perfect second round picks for them(especially since I have read that Fason ran a sub 4.3 40) Guys that can produce at RB that are drafted later are all over...Smith and Moore in Minnesota, Suggs in Cleveland, Davis in Houston, and that is really just scratching the surface. I really, truly believe that if the Bears were to take a RB at 4, they would be making a mistake, no matter how good Brown/Benson/Cadillac become. -

.270 30 110 .850 seems reasonable to me, quite honestly. Second year back from basically taking a year off, plus he is going to a hitter's haven, and he is going to the AL Central, where the pitching is lacking for the most part(Minny is good, but Cleveland is so-so, Detroit is mediocre, and KC is bad minus Greinke)

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) Just a thought... Gardenhire has named Radke as the Opening Day starter, so the Sunday Night game could be Buehrle-Radke. I thought I had heard something about that. That would give Johan the home opening start. Which means we will probably lose. f***.

He had a .985 OPS that year too. A .985 OPS nowadays is very good, and back then, it got Ruth released.
-
TRU...it was 4.77? I saw 4.72 at NFL Draft Countdown. Both are very poor times, regardless.
-
FWIW, 4.82 was Clarett's slowest time. He also ran a 4.72...which is still embarrassing.
-
Oh man, Ronnie Brown is teh l33t. I think I love this guy. Some team that gets him will be a very lucky team.

To see the changes KW has made, I would suggest looking at the 2001 and 2002 teams, and then looking at the 2005 team. You CANNOT say that he has not put us in a position to win. In 2003, we had one of the better 1-2 punches in the majors going into the year, and we then were given a boost by Loaiza, who had a Cy Young year. We were also weak in CF and at 2B during the year, and instead of waiting until the deadline to acquire them, he went out and got us Carl Everett and Robbie Alomar, so we could have them for longer. That was one of the best teams in the majors, quite frankly, and just didn't turn it on until it was too late. Last year, we were not good going into the year, but again, he went out and got guys to give us a better chance. The main thing the team was missing was another top starter, so in June, he goes out and gets Freddy Garcia. This year, we have probably the best looking team going into the year since 1993. We have a full rotation, we have a lineup with essentially no holes in it, we almost have too many relievers, and the key issue at ST is to see who makes the roster as a utility infielder. If utility IFer is your biggest concern, I think you have a pretty good team. That is all.
