QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Johnson and Clemens are two of the best pitchers in the game -- and I don't think they're 27 are they? And how many arm surgeries have they had in their careers?

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Are you saying that Rowand is a power-hitter that can put up more than 35 HR's in a season? Seriously? Aaron Rowand had the highest SLG% and OPS on the team last year. Not that it is a guarantee that he will put it up again this year...but I think the chances are pretty good. So yeah, Aaron Rowand is a power hitter. He's probably not gonna hit 35 homers, but there's nothing wrong with 25 homers and 40 doubles now, is there?

I did a little research, and found the answer...I cheated, so sue me :finger I will say that I was on the right track. And the name is important. The game has also been called Polar Bears around the Ice Hole. Just another hint

QUOTE(YoungstownIndians @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) HAHA. The Twins Rotation is probably the best in the A.L. There is a reason they have held you off the past 3 years. I hate to do this, because he is no longer here...but does he realize how ludicrous this comment really is? Boston's rotation - Schilling, Wells, Clement, Wake, Arroyo, Miller New York's rotation - RJ, Pavano, Wright, Moose, Brown Both of those 2 pwn Minny's rotation. You can also make arguments for (Los Angeles Angels of) Anaheim, Oakland, Chicago, and perhaps even Seattle and Toronto. And in 2003, Colon-Buehrle-Elo-Garland was better then Minny's rotation of Johan-Radke-Rogers-Lohse-Mays/Reed/Pulido/Milton. In fact, of the Twins starters, only Johan had an ERA below 4.49...and a lot of Johan's innings came out of the pen too. So, basically...no.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Willie no longer fits in the team's plans. While this line is very much true, I find it kind of funny and full of irony. Part of the goal of the White Sox this offseason was to get rid of the power and add more on-base faster players who have good defense. Is that not EXACTLY what Harris is, especially against RHP? I know he's gone, and I know he has a questionable attitude...I just kind of think that is funny.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Sounds like a reliever. From CBSsportsline: "The Diamondbacks have some interest in bringing in at least one more reliever, preferably a left-hander, to augment the bullpen, says the Arizona Republic. The team apparently had interest in Astros right-hander Tim Redding, but Houston has been asking for either closer Greg Aquino or setup man Mike Koplove" With the pitching depth the Sox have in the pen...I might make Munoz and Adkins for Cintron...but that seems like the Sox are giving up too much and not getting enough in return, especially considering he would be used primarily as a utility IF. Not sure exactly. I like Cintron a lot...but I'm not sure if we do have the pieces necessary to trade for him, right now, while also getting a fair value in return.

I like Cintron a lot. If he were brought in here, I would be in love with the move. What would it take though?

Fiction A White Sox starting pitcher will win 20 games this season. - no one will get close. Probably two 16 game winners and three 12 game winners or so. Fiction Willie Harris will be on the White Sox opening day roster. - Simply put, he gawn Fact Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez will toss more than 140 innings this season. - 180 innings for Duque or so Fact Shingo Takatsu will record more than 30 saves this season. - for the first time since Keith Foulke in 2001, the Sox have a 30 save guy. Yes, 2001 Fiction Scott Podsednik will set a career high in both batting average and OBP this season. - though .270-.345 are acceptable Fiction Frank Thomas will play in more than 120 games this season. - I don't see him back until May, and he won't play everyday either, to try and ensure his health Fiction Carl Everett will get more than 350 at-bats this season. - as I have said before, I would hope fact, but I don't think it will happen. Fact A White Sox starter other than Mark Buehrle or Freddy Garcia will throw a complete game shutout this season. - Jose Contreras will throw atleast one, perhaps two...and his ERA will still be around 4.50. Fact The White Sox will win the American League Central in 2005. - barely

What was Jerry Rice's 40-time way back when? It is well known...something like 4.6 or 4.65...that didn't stop San Fran from taking him at about 16 or so, and that didn't stop him from becoming the best wideout ever. Not that I am comparing Rice to Williams...just pointing out that 40 times are not always accurate, especially when looking at some of these guys. I do think Williams is the best WR in the draft, and I think he would be a wise choice at #4. One thing the Bears are missing is a play making WR, and I do think Williams is exactly that. If they were to get Mike Williams, they could very easily win the NFC North next year. With the Vikings going absolutely no where, the Lions still being a mediocre team, and the Packers in the decline, the division is up for grabs.

Frank Thomas mention in Canseco book.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 14, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) If that's the only mention of Frank Thomas in the book, good deal. I would be absolutely crushed to hear Frank's name involved with steroids. There is not a whole lot of difference...obviously, there is a difference, but consider that one is when Frank is about 21 or so, and the other is in his mid to late 30s. Frank Thomas has constantly said he would be very willing to take a urine test, and that he has been for steroid testing from the beginning. To be a tight end at one of the more prolific colleges in college football, you have to be decent sized. If Thomas was mentioned with steroids, as in he took them...I would laugh...because there is no way it's true. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) They're close -- their age 28 seasons ar very similar. But since then, drew was signed for 5/$55M and maggs for 7/75 I can tell you which one I'd rather have on my team...It's not maggs. Maggs signed for 5/75, or if the options are picked up/vest, it is 7/105 And at either price, I'd rather have Drew over Maggs. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Curry, chandler, hinrich/gordon, and a draft pick or two. That is a hell of a lot, and I'm not sure, as an outsider looking in, if the Bulls would want to give up that much. I am not looking at Curry, FWIW, when saying it is too much. More or less Chandler and Hinrich/Gordon...it is really hard to trade fan favorites. Maybe if they do end up rebuilding(which I think they will), you make a trade then...like as in 06-07.

Sox trade Escobar to Washington Nationals
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) I'm not too broken up about this deal. I mean I liked Escobar because he was more insurance from us ever having to see Borchard again but with Sweeney and Anderson coming up the next few years I don't think we will have much to worry about as far as outfielders. Who's to say that Escobar would have been or would be any better then Borchard? Once you get to the mendoza line level or around that area, it really doesn't seem to matter how bad you are...because, plain and simply, you are s***ty. Borchard just made it even more fun considering he hit about .170, or whatever it was he hit. -
I think, fwiw, that he will remain in Minnesota, whether they want him or not. Minnesota knows he is the best receiver in the game, and I don't think they are going to get the offer they are looking for. If I had to take a guess, I would say Moss ends up in New York or Baltimore...not like I'm going out on a limb there...probably the Ravens more likely then the Jets, depending on who they are offering of course. I will also maybe go out on a limb and say that Minnesota trades their 2 first round picks then and get a top 5 pick, and take Derrick Johnson.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) Not really. McHale pretty much has to get this team to make the playoffs othawise Glen Taylor is going to can his ass too. If they miss out however, and start rebuilding, the Bulls could seriously have a long look at Garnett. If Flip couldn't get the TWolves going, I don't know how the hell McHale is going to. This is your very basic case of the New York Mets 2002...too many egos results in too many L's. It worked last year, but not so much this year. They need some addition by subtraction badly. Also...I'd imagine it would take one hell of an offer to get Garnett away from Minnesota. I am trying to invision the type of package it would take, and I can't think of it.

Sox trade Escobar to Washington Nationals
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
This Owens kind of sounds like he could be a 26 or 27 year old prospect here. Very little experience playing pro baseball, and he quit after his sophomore year in high school? Considering Escobar cost us nothing, this is a very good trade. Escobar had no place on the roster, and Owens may have a bright future. Almost feels reminiscent to the Singleton for Harris trade. -
If we were to do that, here is some fun math. Say we averaged 400 posts per game thread(most below, some above) You multiply that by 162 games...and you are at 64,800 posts in that one thread You divide that by the 35 posts per page I use...and you are looking at 1851 pages of game threads, and then some. That's a lot of posts.

So is this the beginning of a rebuilding period for the TWolves?

Not sure how well Sunday night works for me..I usually have bowling from about 4-7 on Sundays, and then I have dinner right after that...we do have our end of the year tournament soon, though I am not sure when that is. Tuesday nights after 8:30 usually do not work so well either. I am hopefully getting a job soon...even though I have been "looking" for about 4 months now...so we'll see how that works. If we can get one in early March, that would be fine.
