QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) even if we it was a sign and trade deal idonno if id really want to package 3 of our top 4 prospects...we arent a true big market team i think we really need to stop acting like one with trading away all our prospects who are paid cheap. For a virtual guaranteed 17-20 wins and an ERA in the 3.00 range, with a K/9 of around 10, and a K/BB of 7-8?! Those types of pitchers don't grow on trees. We would probably have to give up Garland...they would need a replacement in the rotation, and we'd need to make room in ours...but no one would have a problem with that. If we could get Sheets(and maybe a decent prospect for Garland) for BMac, Fields, Anderson(, and Garland), and you can sign him longterm, you should almost do that without thinking. That being said...our rotation is set...and we will be fine without Sheets. That's the only reason you don't make the move. Quite honestly, you can look across the major leagues, and there are probably quite a few teams that are a Ben Sheets away from winning their division and making noise in the playoffs...we are one of those teams.

I Also...to get off-topic here a bit...but did Borch look a little better yesterday? I obviously couldn't watch the game, but from what I could tell, the swing on his second homer looked decent. Maybe he got lucky...and I will admit that I do not have a scout's eyes...but he didn't look horrible, like he did last year. And I know it is just ST...but still.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) Also consider this scenario: after Willie pinch runs, he goes into SS and moves Uribe to 3b [or you'd have willie at 3b]. After Willie's first error late in the game that costs the sox a game, who among the willie backers will say "I'm sorry, that was a really bad idea". Willie would blow more games with his defense than Koch did in the two yrs he was here. Now I like Willie to play 2b. That's his spot. This talk of him playing SS and 3b is silly. It shouldn't happen with the sox. Not for a team that expects to contend for the playoffs. The Sox need a guy who can play 3b, SS and 2b without hurting the team with his defense. Willie would hurt the team w/ his defense at 3b and SS. And why do we have to move Uribe to 3B and Harris to SS? Harris can't play 3B for an inning or 2? If Chone Figgins can play 3B...I'm sure Willie can too. His arm is not good, but that's not the end of the world...he's not the starter or anything crazy like that. And odds are good we will have Burke on the roster too(or so I am assuming right now, since there is a spot free and Oz has mentioned how he would like a 3rd catcher who can play other positions as well...which is Burke).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) as much as Ben Sheets would look good in a sox uniform it just aint going to happen.... i was hoping we could get him in that carlos lee trade but that was our only chance Um, says who? I'm sure Milwaukee would think about a BMac, Fields, and Anderson offer for Sheets...or it would atleast get discussions started.

do you think i should do this trade
witesoxfan replied to soxhawks's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
It is essentially Buehrle for Harden, since both Monroe and Olivo should be FA's. There are a ton of OF'ers out there who are probably better then Monroe, and the same can be said for Olivo and catchers too. I actually am not sure about the actual deal itself. Harden strikes out more per 9 then Buehrle, but tends to walk more, thus having a worse K/BB, worse WHIP, and fewer IP, thus fewer chances to win games. I think you probably should...since it probably won't be hard to replace Olivo's .233 13 40 .725(and his .200 6 14 .648 with Seattle)...and Buehrle is probably superior to Harden. I would say, in the end, no matter the advice you are given, it is a judgement call. There is a chance that Harden could put up 17 wins and an ERA in the 3.50 or lower range with 7-8 K's per 9...and there is the chance he would put up 12 wins, a 4.00 ERA, and the same amount of K's per 9. Mark almost assuredly will be in the middle of those 2 set of numbers. -

SoxFan1's Official Mock Draft 1

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) Keyshawn and Glenn = Over 30. They don't have much left in the tank even if they are "Parcells" favorites. But I can't see Williams slipping past 7. The Vikings don't need a LB, they've got those 3 spots filled with Henderson, Thomas? and Harris. If anything, they'll take a CB before a LB. IIRC, they were not happy with some of their LB'ers...though I can't remember if it was Henderson or Thomas(I believe Thomas...but am not certain). A LB is not out of the picture at all at #7 for them...assuming his name is Derrick Johnson. Also, if Minny were to get Plaxico, I am not sure I see a WR for them in the first or second round...maybe not even until day 2. Burleson-Plax-Robinson is a pretty solid trio, especially for a QB as solid as Culpepper. I do think they will take a receiver at some point though, because past those 3, there is not much depth...Kelly Campbell is good for a fly route every now and then, but that's about all they have. I could see them taking a project like Brackins or Matt Jones, or perhaps they were to get one on day one, and maybe take a guy that falls or is just a good pick there(I could see Chris Henry, Fred Gibson, Roscoe Parrish...someone like that as Minnesota's 2nd rounder). Overall...it is a solid mock. I see Barnes going higher with his great combine, I see Crowder in the 20s, I do not see Chicago picking a WR at 4(mainly because I do not see Chicago at 4 come draft day, but also because I'm not sure they like what they see there), Gruden has a hard-on for Cadillac, Thomas Davis might not be a 1st round pick anymore, let alone top 15, I see Luis Castillo going ahead of Mosley, and I actually see Philadelphia going with a receiver in the first round...possibly Mathis out of Hampton, who is like OMG FAST!!!1!!11!!...but Roth could be a decent value pick there. It may sound like a lot is wrong, but a lot of it is disagreements, and it is better then quite a few out there. -
Funniest mock draft in NFL history
witesoxfan replied to WHarris1's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Thomas Davis ahead of both Pool and Shazor is also pretty bad...likely a 2nd round pick. Gruden loves Cadillac. No way he makes it past 5. Also, Williamson at 7? Isn't that like taking Clarett on day 1, or like taking me in the draft period? He is good, but if he goes in the top 10, I will eat my shoe...or be drafted by an NFL team, I'm not sure which. I shouldn't have even looked. I thought my draft may have been a little crazy...ROFL. -

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Let me know what kind of award you get. I got my first (and only) 300 game when I was 15 but I didn't get a single thing for it. I don't think jr. bowlers are allowed to receive 300 rings because of the monetary value. At least that's what I was told. I was also told that since I rolled mine on the first day of the bowling season that I didn't have an established average and that had something to do with it. Needless to say, I couldn't carry the 232 average I ended up with. You're next goal should be a 700 and/or 800 series. I once missed a 300 game by missing the 11th strike and then ended up with a 793 series. That really sucked... I am pretty sure I will end up getting a ring for it, but it will likely take a while. The fact that you didn't get anything for yours would really suck...just because it is the first day of league really seems like it should mean nothing. The fact is you bowled a 300, you bowled it during a league, and you said that you had paid your yearly dues, so to me, that seems sanctioned...but I suppose with the rule change and all, that would make sense. My next goal is most definately a 700...that is the only thing my dad still has the upper hand in. I have never gotten a 700 series, which really sucks...the closest I have gotten is about 686 or so, so I am still a few pins away even then. And 793...I couldn't imagine that. I have a friend on my scratch team...quite possibly a top 3 junior bowler in North Dakota...who has shot like 4 or 5 299's...and after one of them, I went up to him, gave him a 5 and said good score...because it is not a good game. That is about the same way I would describe a 793...that is a good score, but is not a good series, especially since you were that close. Just wondering, do you remember what you left on your 11th ball? Also...I am pretty inconsistent as well...I just tend to maintain strings to start off games really well, for some reason. I have shot 2 300's, as I said, and I have also started with the first 8, 7, and 6 too. The game before my first 300 was a 146, and the game after my 2nd was a 171. And within the past month or so, during our scratch practice, I shot a 4 game series under 600...which is major ouchies.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Who saw this coming? Looks like Cleveland might have to pick Alex Smith now; It's a little late, but better late then never. Anyways, I am super happy with that pick. Some could argue that Holcomb is possibly a better QB then Bledsoe, but especially at that price. Getting him for $6.6 mill over the 4 years(yes, under $1.75 mill per year...if I am remembering the right contract) is an absolute steal. TRU...the Bills will be fine. I do believe I said something along the lines of how they would bring in a good backup...looks like I was right.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) 2 more: Is it just me, or does Duque look really damn old in this pic?
-
Isn't that cute... And we still dont have a backup 3Bman. Unless you count Uribe...and I don't...because he's our starting SS. He may stick around...I'm not sure...but I do know that he this could be to also boost his trade value as well.

LOL...I can try. First of all, from what I can tell, you cup the ball, but you atleast cup it properly...I see people who cup it with either no fingers in the ball, or their thumb in the ball...and since the thumb has nothing to do with how much a ball hooks or spins, it is pointless. So, in a sense, you are doing the lesser of two evils. The second part of that really starts to pertain when you really start to get into bowling and you start to understand things a little more...staying behind the ball means exactly that, you stay behind the ball(say, for instance, that the bowling ball at the exact second prior to release is a clock...if you are at 6 or 5 o'clock, you are in a good position for lots of lift and turn/hook/spin on the ball. When you come out incorrectly, your hand would be like right in the middle of the clock, or at 3 o'clock...if you are left handed, the first times are 6 and 7, middle remains the same, and the last is 9). Finding out that you cup the ball tells me a lot actually...mainly that it would be hard for you to not turn the ball correctly...but in cupping it, you do lose a lot of accuracy. If you really want to get into it, you can probably buy a used reactive ball of some type at around 14-16 pounds, and have it drilled to be a fingertip grip(which, like I said, you want to get serious, I would suggest). This would eventually start to make a little more sense. There is a lot of physics that goes into bowling...and I'm not sure I quite understand all of it . The basics of it are that there is a weight block in the middle of the bowling ball, and usually, at some point down the lane, that weight block turns over, which causes the hook...or something like that...lol. If you throw the ball sideways(in that it would be spinning on its axis), the weight block will not turn over, and the only hook you will get is of the ball just spinning a little bit. I would guess that does not happen to you. There is also forward roll, where the ball is rolling forward, perhaps with a little to the left/right(if you are right/left handed, respectively)...odds are good it will turn over then, causing some type of hook on the ball. You can also get side roll on the ball, which causes the ball to turn a ton, and it will hook a ton then too...I would guess that's more where you are. I am somewhere in between there when I am bowling well(such as today). I have in-between forward and side roll, along with a little velocity, and when I have any type of accuracy at all, I kill the pins. It may be a little bit to comprehend...but you may get it...I am not sure. Also...now that I have thought about it, bowling is actually a power game, but not in the sense a lot would view it in. The main source of power behind a bowling ball is not the velocity behind the ball, but rather the revs you get on the ball(which has a lot to do with the turn you get on the ball...the more turn, the more revs, the more pin action you will have, the less bad breaks you will encounter). If you wanna see a guy with huge revolutions on his ball, try and see if you can watch Robert Smith, who is a pro bowler, bowl sometime...he gets some crank on his ball. Anyways...if you need me to dumb-en it up anymore, I can sure try...otherwise, I'm just here to help.
